'SUMMARY
Between June and September 1991, a stripping and trenching program was carried out in three areas of the Batcha Project in Ryan and Palmer Townships. The stripped areas were washed, mapped and sampled. The stripping of the west breccia uncovered a porphyry related breccia area with associated copper mineralization. This could represent the top of a much larger porphyry system. The Gtenrock stripping was successful in exposing Au-Cu -i- Co mineralization. This mineralization appears to be related to an IP response that was not satisfactorily explained. A drill hole is recommended to test the gold showing (6.33 gpt/A.Om) on L2+OOE.
1.0 INTRODUCTION
This report describes trenching work carried out by Noranda Exploration Company, Limited on the Hemlo Gold's Batcha Gold project during 1991. The program was planned by Leslie A. Tihor, Senior Project Geologist.
2.0 PROPERTY DESCRIPTION AND LOCATION
The Batcha Gold property consists of 475 contiguous, staked mineral claims (7689 hectares). Of these, 410 claims were optioned from Aurogin Resources Ltd. and the balance were staked by Noranda Exploration Company, Limited.
The claims are found mainly in Palmer Township, some in Ryan Township and a few in Nicolet Township. The property is located near the village of Batchawana, about 80 km north of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, in the Sault Ste. Marie Mining Division.
3.0 ACCESSIBILITY, CLIMATE, LOCAL RESOURCES
Access to the property may be gained by travelling 6 km north from Highway 17 on the gravelled Batchawana dump road. A network of old logging roads leads to much of the property. Alternatively, Nick Pipli provides Beaver and Cessna air service from Batchawana to lakes in the area. Because of relatively severe topographic relief road access is only available to truck traffic until the first substantial snowfall, usually about mid-November. During the winter local ice fishermen maintain good snowmobile access to the larger lakes.
The rugged terrain and close proximity to Lake Superior produce local precipitation levels which may be double the rates further inland. This ensures heavy water flowage in creeks and rivers in spring and fall. Many of the smaller creeks dry up by July.
There is very little coniferous tree growth on the property. Most forests consist of maple with lesser amounts of poplar, white birch, oak and locally yellow birch. Because of the high vale of yellow birch for veneer, care must be taken to avoid damaging these trees during exploration activity.
4.0 GENERAL GEOLOGY
Batcha Gold is located within the west end of the Batchawana Greenstone Belt (Archean). It is bounded on the north and south by granitic terrain, and on the southwest by Keweenawan flood basalts and associated sediments.
The property is underlain predominantly by mafic volcanics with minor pyritic and pyrrhotine interflow sediments. These rocks are intruded by as dense network of diabase dykes and Irregularly shaped bodies.

Fig. 2. Property Location
200m northwest of the north end of Mamainse Lake a porphyritic granodiorite plug, toss that 100m In diameter, intrudes the mafic rocks. The plug, known as the Jogran Porphyry shows extensive brecciation and low grade chalcopyrite and molybdenite mineralization along Its margins. Pink felsite dykes, usually porphyritic, are especially common adjacent to the Jogran Porphyry but may be found anywhere on the property. 900m southwest of the Jogran Porphyry, a partially exposed, bfotite-rich, chalcopyrite-bearing breccia pipe cuts diabase and mafic volcanics (West Breccia).
Deformation in the form of calcite -f chalcedonic quartz-filled fissures is common on these claims. The fissures are reflected in topographic lineaments snowing preferred orientation NW, ENE and NW in that order of predominance.
5.0 TRENCHING
Between June and September 1991, a trenching program was carried out in three areas of the Batcha project (Glenrock, STP and Jogran). The objectives of the program were to provide better exposure, to examine areas with good prospecting assay values and to examine geophysical responses.
On the stripped areas, the backhoe work was followed up by washing with a high pressure pump to provide a clean surface to examine and map. Grab, chip and channel samples (134) were collected over the stripped and trenched surfaces. The samples where analyzed for gold and were appropriate for copper and silver.
5.1 Equipment
Two contractors were used on the trenching program The following are those contractors, the equipment they used, the areas they worked in and the amount of time they worked.
1) Contractor: Gordon Chapman Box 40 Batchawana, Ontario POS 1AO
Equipment: Cat 225 Backhoe Cat D7 Bulldozer
Areas: Jogran, STP, Glenrock
Time: June 24 to July 25, 1991 (208 hours)
2) Contractor: Belham Ltd. Box 25 Kaministiqua, Ontario POT 1X0
Equipment: HS40 Superhoe
Areas: Glenrock
Time: August 27 to September 12,1991 (139 hours)
5.2 Personnel
The following Noranda personnel were used in supervision, cleaning, washing, cutting and sampling during the trenching and stripping program:
Les Tihor Geologist TimminsBrian Alexander Geologist Kirkland lakeSteve Harding Geologist TorontoDave Maclean Technician TimminsClaude Breton Technician TimminsKim Wakeford Field Assistant TimminsDenis Gilles Field Assistant Timmins
Dan Shelley of Batchawana Bay was also contracted to help in the washing and sampling of the stripped areas.
5.3 Glenrock Area
Most trenching was done along lines 2E, 3E and 4E across the cluster of Au-rich samples found by prospecting. This zone, named the New Glenrock Showing, coincides with the most persistent and strongest set of IP anomalies on the grid. Other shorter trenches tested IP anomalies on lines 2W and 5W. The trenches were routinely dug 1.5m wide and up to 1.8m deep.
a) L2E: The trench on L2E extends from 0 + 50N to 1 +05N (55m) (Map 4). From 0 + 50N to O 4- 86N, the trench is about 1.5m wide. From O + 86N to 1 -f 05N it consists of a stripped zone, on and near outcrop, averaging 6m in width. All bedrock consists of mafic volcanics with minor diabase. Gold values are found in sheared and brecciated, chloritized and locally silicified mafic volcanics. Gold roughly correlates with pyrite -f chalcopyrite. Best Au mineralization occurs in the vicinity of O 4 96N (6.33 g/t/Am) true width). A second narrow shear at O -i- 79N assays 1.78 g/t Au/IOcm.
b) L3E: The trench on L3E is 43m in length, from 1 * 67N to 2 -i-10N (Map 5). Bedrock is poorly exposed due to extensive cover by hardpan till. No significant mineralization was noted in this trench.
c) L4E: The trench on L4E is 125m in length extending from 1 -f 29N to 2 -i- 54N (Map 6). Only the northern 35m shows interesting mineralization in the form of fracturing, hematization and sulphides. Best assay was 1.57 g/t Au/3-Om, including 2.60 g/t Au/lm, near 2 + 33N. The remainder of the trench exposes fresh pillowed to massive mafic flows. A minor exception is a 20-30cm wide hematized shear zone, which assayed .01 g/t Au, at 1 +86N.
d) L2W: On L2W, the trench is 45m in length, from 2+05N to 2 + 50N (Map 7). Exposures consist of mafic volcanics and diabase. A pyritic fracture zone occurs between 2 + 24 and 2 * 29N. The best Au assay is 0.94 g/t/1 .Om at 2 -i- 25N. This trench tested an IP anomaly.
e) L5W: Two trenches were dug on L5W. They were also located to test IP anomalies. One trench extends from 1+OOS to 0+42S (Map 8). Rock exposure was poor especially in the south half of the trench due to hardpan till. All exposed bedrock consisted of massive to pillowed mafic volcanics. No mineralization was encountered and no assays done. An attempt was made to trench the IP anomaly at 1 H-25m on L5W, but bedrock was not reached.
5.4 STP Area
A quartz-sulphide breccia on the west wall of the original trench on Line O was stripped (Map 10) and sampled. It was considered a possible extension of the high grade 1988 drill intersection of Duration Mines in hole No.3 which assayed 1.6 g/t Au, 42.3 g/t Ag and 3.06% Cu over 6.5 meters. The breccia contained no significant metal values. A small pocket of arsenopyrite sulphides, 10cm wide, on the north edge of the breccia, was included in a one meter wide sample that assayed 7.27 g/t Au.
5.5 Jog ran Area
The West Breccia outcrop area (L2N, 9 + 75W) was extensively stripped over an area of 65 x 25m (Map 13). The showing was found to consist of variably brecciated diabase and mafic volcanics. Fragments are angular and show little milling. The matrix consists of variable concentrations of biotite, chalcopyrite, pyrite and pyrrhotite. Assays of 23m of channel sampling average C.24% Cu and trace Au (Map 13).
A MaxMin II conductor was trenched on L75,7 * 50E (Map 14). Disseminated pyritic sulphides in mafic volcanics and interflow sediments carried Cu up to 1700 ppm but no Au. A gossan zone at the conductor (7 + 75E) could not be sampled because of flooding.
6.0 CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS
The stripping, in the Jogran area was successful in exposing a porphyry related breccia (west breccia). In the Glenrock area, the stripping exposed a new gold showing in a sulphide-rich sheared and chloritized mafic volcanics. This gold appears to be related to an IP response extending for at least 300 meters along strike. The other trenches do not adequately explain this IP response.
The Glenrock stripping produce the best target for a drill hole. It is recommended that at least one diamond drill hole be drilled below the gold mineralization on line 2+OOE.
The west breccia area should be examined more closely with a mapping and whole rock sampling program before any more stripping or drilling is planned.
