1.0 INTRODUCTION

The Victoria Lake property consists of 31 contiguous, unpatented mining claims in the Thunder Bay Mining Division.

A small humus sampling survey was undertaken over three of the claims (TB 656323, 656326 and 656270). The survey was done in early August, 1983, to test for anomalous metal values over the electromagnetic conductor found in the area.

2.0 LOCATION AND ACCESS (Figure 1)

The property is situated 8 kilometers north of Schreiber, in the area around Victoria Lake.

During the winter months it is possible to snowmobile into Victoria Lake along the Hydro line road out of Schreiber. In summer it is only possible to drive as far as the Hydro line itself, leaving a distance of some 5 kilometers to the property. Best access in summer is via helicopter from Schreiber.

3.0 GEOCHEMISTRY

Samples were taken using a grubhoe at 25-meter intervals along the picket lines. The samples were placed in 'High Wet Strength' Kraft 4"x6" envelopes and air dried in the field.

In the laboratory the samples were dried and blended. A 1.0 gram fraction of each sample was weighed and digested in 10 millilitres of HC03 (cone.) then placed onto a hot plate. Five (5) millilitres of HC1 was added and the sample was then dried and cooled. The sample was then digested in 5 millilitres of HC03 and placed onto a hot plate. The sample was diluted to 20 millilitres with water and the content of various elements determined by atomic absorption techniques.

theAll humus samples were analysed for copper,

O INTRODUCTION

The Victoria Lake property consists of 31 contiguous, unpatented mining claims in the Thunder Bay Mining Division. Claim line geological mapping was undertaken from May 17 to June 3, 1983. A total of 45.0 kilometers of line were cut on the ground in June and September of 1983. Geological mapping was performed over the grid during the periods July 25 to August 5 and September 20 to October 4, 1983.

2.0 LOCATION AND ACCESS (Figure 1)

The property is situated 8 kilometers north of the town of Schreiber, in the area around Victoria Lake.

3.0 CLAIMS

The following is a list of the 31 contiguous, unpatented mining claims in the Thunder Bay Mining Division, recorded in the name of Noranda Exploration and covered by this report:

TB 656261-656270,TB 656300-656311,TB 656322-656323,TB 656325-656328,TB 759675-759677,

4.0 GENERAL GEOLOGY (Figure 2)

The rock types found on the property fall within the volcanics and sediments of the Big Duck-Schreiber Greenstone Belt which is believed to be part of the Abitibi-Wawa Volcanic Sequence.

The geology of the Big Duck-Schreiber Area is formed by the lithological units listed in Figure 2. The oldest known rock types are the Unit l sediments, consisting of shale and greywacke. The best exposures are found in the vicinity of Winston Lake where, due to regional and perhaps contact metamorphism, they have been altered to garnet-mica schists.

The Unit 4 basalts are the next st ratigraphiea 11 y younger unit, much similar to Unit 2, different only in the fact that the flows are thinner and the pillowed variety is much more prevalent. Within this mafic formation, contrary to the Unit 2 basalts, are interflow sedimentary bands. Carbonate facies sediments are common in the north while oxide facies sediments are the norm in the southern area of the Big Duck-Schreiber Area.

The Unit 5 sediments are found to overlie the basalts of Unit 4. These sediments consist of finely bedded shale, greywacke and sulphide facies iron formation. This is the last layered stratigraphic unit, the remainder are all intrusives.

The gabbro comprising Unit 6 is usually found in the contact area of Units 3 and 4. The granitic intrusives of Unit 7 are common throughout the area. The rock is red in colour, medium grained and carries a weak foliation. The quartz-feldspar porphyry making up Unit 8 is found predominantly intruding the Unit 4 basalts in the northern portion of the Big Duck-Schreiber Region. The unit can easily be mistaken for the Unit 3 rhyolites.

Still further north, the grade of metamorphism increases to amphibolite and granulite facies.

5.0 PROPERTY GEOLOGY (Figure 2)

The Victoria Lake property features rocks of Units 2, 3, 4, 6 and 7 .

Unit 2 - Mafic VolcanicsThis unit of pillowed and massive basaltic flows dominates

:he northern portion of the claim group. The rock type is dark green and generally fine grained even in the massive section of the flows. Mineralization in the unit is restricted to pyrite, pyrrhotite and minor chalcopyrite within pillow selvages.

Unit 3 - Felsic VolcanicsThis unit consists of quartz-eye rhyolite, flow-banded

rhyolite and rhyolitic agglomerate. The rocks all display a bleached white weathered surface and are usually light grey on the fresh surface. The quartz-eye rhyolite displays 1-2 millimeter wide clear quartz-eyes, making up <l% of the rock type, flow ban'd ing is relatively rare and where found, is not extensive. The agglomerate consists of highly siliceous fragments, white to grey in colour, with a light grey rhyolitic groundmass. Fragments are generally angular and vary in size considerably, the largest being in the order of 5cm x 10cm. Within the felsic volcanics are located a number of cherty iron formation horizons. The largest can be traced for a length of 500 meters, is up to 3 meters wide and changes from being magnetite rich in the west to being sulphide rich in the east. The felsic volcanic rocks form a band approximately 300 meters wide which crosses through the center of the property in an ENE-WSW direction.

Unit A - Mafic VolcanicsThis unit consists predominantly of pillowed basaltic flows

with minor massive flows. The rock is dark green, closely resembling Unit 2 volcanics. A distinguishing feature is the presence of oxide facies iron formation as an interflow marker. These iron formations can be traced across the entire length of the property. The rock consists of bands of sugary quartz ( r ecry s t a l li ze d chert) and magnetite. Secondary pyrite is evident in varying concentrations along the formation.

Unit 6 - GabbroThe gabbro at Victoria Lake forms a small body one kilometer

long by one-half a kilometer wide found in the southwest corner of the property. Unlike the gabbros to the north in the Big Duck Lake area, this intrusive does not appear to be a sill but seems to have a cross cutting nature. The body is composed equally of plagioclase and pyroxene, medium grained, except for the chill margin areas which are fine grained and closely resemble the mafic volcanics.

Unit 7 - GraniteRed granite is found in two locations: A large granite mass

occupies the extreme northern claims, and a small plug (200m x 200m) is found just north of Victoria Lake. This plug contains up to 5% disseminated pyrite.

6.0 Structure and Metamorphism (Figure 3)

The property lies on the south limb of the Big Duck Lake Anticline (Figure 3). The stratigraphy strikes ENE-WSW and dips steeply (85 0 ) to the north, slightly overturned. Lineations indicate a

^plunge of 25-30 0 to the east for the stratigraphic rock units.

The regional grade of metamorphism on the Victoria Lake property is upper greenschist facies. Biotite, chlorite, actinolite and sericite are the common metamorphic mineralogy.

7.0 CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS

The geological mapping has outlined a belt of rhyolitic agglomerate and quartz-eye rhyolites. This unit is believed to occupy the same stratigraphic position as the rhyolites which host the massive sulphide body fifteen kilometers to the northwest on the Zenmac ground. For this reason, the property is deserving of further work. Any geophysical anomalies found on the property should be investigated. A whole rock geochemistry survey should be undertaken over the felsic volcanics to detect the presence of an alteration halo perhaps associated with a massive sulphide deposit.

Notice of Intent

for Technical Reports

1984 07 31

2.6778

An examination of your survey report indicates that the requirements of The Ontario Mining Act have not been fully met to warrant maximum assessment work credits. This notice is merely a warning that you will not be allowed the number of assessment work days credits that you expected and also that in approximately 15 days from the above date, the mining recorder will be authorized to change the entries on his record sheets to agree with the enclosed statement. Please note that until such time as the recorder actually changes the entry on the record sheet, the status of the claim remains unchanged.

If you are of the opinion that these changes by the mining recorder will jeopardize your claims, you may during the next fifteen days apply to the Mining and Lands Commissioner for an extension of time. Abstracts should be sent with your application.

If the reduced rate of credits does not jeopardize the status of the claims then you need not seek relief from the Mining and Lands Commissioner and this Notice of Intent may be disregarded.

If your survey was submitted and assessed under the "Special Provision-Performance and Coverage" method and you are of the opinion that a re-appraisal under the "Man-days" method would result in the approval of a greater number of days credit per claim, you may, within the said fifteen day period, submit assessment work breakdowns listing the employees names, addresses and the dates and hours they worked. The new work breakdowns should be submitted direct to the Land Management Branch, Toronto. The report will be re-assessed and a new statement of credits based on actual days worked will be issued.
