Greetings Church Family:
“Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you, with all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with thankfulness in your hearts to God.” (Colossians 3:16)
February is going to be a great month for GSWC. Many of you are awarethat we had a pipe break in the kitchen ceiling in December. This causedflooding throughout 75-80% of the church and because of this, part of thekitchen has to be replaced and the majority of the flooring in our buildingis going to be replaced as well. Our contractors handling these thingshave received the go-ahead from our insurance company and will beginworking on the church. We have also hired a painting company to paintthe inside of the church and we have done some remodeling projects inthe children’s classrooms and our “Kid’s Church” area of the fellowshiphall. So as we move ahead with these projects, I ask that you please pray that each thing goessmoothly and that as we have contractors and workers coming through the doors of the church, that wecan connect with them and use this opportunity to point them to the Lord. Next month I will share in ournewsletter about a new church betterment fund where you can contribute to help with future needs atGSWC.
We originally had hoped to have an all-church gathering in January, where we could reveal the newGSWC mission and vision statement, along with new core values that will help guide and direct ourchurch in the future. At this point, the church board and I are only three-quarters of the way done withthis and once we have finished this work we will schedule a time as a church where I will share thenew mission, vision and values of GSWC and at that time, I will also share our action plan from the“360 Church Assessment” from this past October. Until then, please know we are moving forward inthree specific areas where we will provide training and resources to the church. Those areas are:understanding your spiritual gifts, creating a culture of discipleship and equipping our church familywith methods of friendship evangelism. Throughout this spring, we will have workshops that you cansign-up for that will address all three of these areas and provide training and resources to help yougrow in these areas. The more people we have participate in these workshops, the more opportunitywe will have as a church to reach our community more effectively this next year.
I also want to encourage everyone to join us for the “Community Bible Experience” from February 19th
through April 16th, 2014. This will be an unforgettable journey through the New Testament. By readingthrough the Bible, whole books, and in community, we will participate in something revolutionary. Manyother churches within the Wesleyan Movement across our nation are doing the very same thing at thevery same time – how exciting is this opportunity that we have? And friends, this is far more doablethan one might think. We will provide a bookmark for each week’s readings so that you can use yourown Bible at home to read through the text each day. We will offer a special reading group onWednesday at 9:30am and 6:30pm here at the church during the eight weeks of the “Community BibleExperience.” During our exploration of the New Testament together, we will read for five days a weekand share the journey of what we are learning in our weekly reading groups at the church. We willimmerse ourselves in every word of the New Testament, seeking to understand it in context whileexperiencing it together in community.
May the grace of God be with you, Pastor Nick.
