In 1942, all diamond dealers on the Diamond Bourses in Belgium and the Netherlands were obliged to hand in their stocks. Millions of polished and rough diamonds were ‘kept in storage’ in Brussels and Arnhem respectively. In reality, the Nazis sold the stocks on the world market. After the war, however, there proved to be a huge discrepancy between the amount of diamonds being sold and the amount of dia-monds returned.

The biggest diamond dealer turns out to have been SS officer Friedrich Kadgien. As a confidant of Herman Göring, he was responsible for the forced labour and foreign exchange sales that were so essential for the German war industry.

The authors dig deep into the archives and show us how Kadgien transferred millions via a Swiss front man to South America, where the Nazis reappeared in the fifties, in Colombia, Brazil and Argentina.

Philosophers have an aversion to food. After all, no other topic has been paid so little attention to as eating. Sarena Solari moved from Italy to

Groningen with her Italian father and

Dutch mother when she was six years

old . She shares all her baking experi-

ences on Skype with her Italian aunt

and regularly visits her family in Italy.

Robert Kranenborg is a top chef. He

began his career in Amersfoort at res-

taurant De Witte. To broaden his horizons

he then moved to France to work in the

restaurants ‘L’Oustaù de Baumanière,’

‘Île-de-France’ and ‘Le Grand Vefour.’

In 1992 he started cooking at the Amstel

Hotel in Amsterdam. Here, Kranenborg

earned two Michelin stars. In 2000 he

left the Amstel hotel and in 2007 he put

restaurants including ‘Le Cirque’ in

Scheveningen on the map. Since 2009

he has featured regularly on a number

of Dutch TV shows.
