Get started

Install SIM card and batterySafe removal. Always switch the device off and disconnectthe charger before removing the battery.

The SIM card and its contacts can be easily damaged byscratches or bending, so be careful when handling,inserting, or removing the card.

1 Press and slide the back cover towards the bottom ofthe phone, and remove it (1).

2 Remove the battery (2).3 Open the SIM card holder (3), insert the SIM card with

the contact surface facing down (4), and close theholder (5).

Charge the batteryYour battery has been partially charged at the factory. Ifthe device indicates a low charge, do the following:

1 Connect the charger to a wall outlet.2 Connect the charger to the device.3 When the device indicates a full charge, disconnect the

charger from the device, then from the wall outlet.

You do not need to charge the battery for a specific lengthof time, and you can use the device while it charges. If thebattery is completely without charge, it may take severalminutes before the charging indicator appears on thedisplay or before any calls can be made.

Antenna

Your device may have internal and external antennas.Avoid touching the antenna area unnecessarily while theantenna is transmitting or receiving. Contact withantennas affects the communication quality and maycause a higher power level during operation and mayreduce the battery life.

Headset

Warning:When you use the headset, your ability to hear outsidesounds may be affected. Do not use the headset where itcan endanger your safety.

Functions without a SIM cardSome functions of your phone may be used withoutinserting a SIM card, such as Organizer functions andgames. Some functions appear dimmed in the menus andcannot be used.

Applications running in backgroundLeaving applications running in the background increasesthe demand on battery power and reduces the battery life.

Network servicesTo use the device you must have service from a wirelessservice provider. Some features are not available on allnetworks; other features may require that you makespecific arrangements with your service provider to usethem. Network services involve transmission of data. Checkwith your service provider for details about fees in yourhome network and when roaming on other networks. Yourservice provider can explain what charges will apply. Somenetworks may have limitations that affect how you can usesome features of this device requiring network supportsuch as support for specific technologies like WAP 2.0protocols (HTTP and SSL) that run on TCP/IP protocols andlanguage-dependent characters.

Your service provider may have requested that certainfeatures be disabled or not activated in your device. If so,these features will not appear on your device menu. Yourdevice may also have customized items such as menunames, menu order, and icons.



Shared memoryThe following features in this device may share memory:multimedia messaging (MMS), e-mail application, instantmessaging. Use of one or more of these features mayreduce the memory available for the remaining features.If your device displays a message that the memory is full,delete some of the information stored in the sharedmemory.

Access codesThe security code helps to protect your phone againstunauthorized use. The preset code is 12345. You can createand change the code, and set the phone to request thecode. Keep the code secret and in a safe place separatefrom your phone. If you forget the code and your phone islocked, your phone will require service and additionalcharges may apply. For more information, contact a NokiaCare point or your phone dealer.

The PIN code supplied with the SIM card protects the cardagainst unauthorised use. The PIN2 code supplied withsome SIM cards is required to access certain services. If youenter the PIN or PIN2 code incorrectly three times insuccession, you are asked for the PUK or PUK2 code. If youdo not have them, contact your service provider.

The module PIN is required to access the information in thesecurity module of your SIM card. The signing PIN may berequired for the digital signature. The restriction passwordis required when using the call restriction service.

To set how your phone uses the access codes and securitysettings, select Menu > Settings > Security.

Dialing shortcuts

Assign a phone number to a number keySelect Menu > Contacts > 1-touch dialing, scroll to adesired number (2-9), and select Assign. Enter the desiredphone number, or select Find and a saved contact.

Activate speed diallingSelect Menu > Settings > Call > 1-touch dialing > On.

Write text

Text modesTo enter text (for example, when writing messages) youcan use traditional or predictive text input.

When you write text, press and hold Options to switchbetween traditional text input, indicated by , andpredictive text input, indicated by . Not all languagesare supported by predictive text input.

The character cases are indicated by , , and .

To change the character case, press #. To change from theletter to number mode, indicated by , press and hold#, and select Number mode. To change from the numberto the letter mode, press and hold #.

To set the writing language, select Options > Writinglanguage.

Traditional text inputPress a number key, 2-9, repeatedly until the desiredcharacter appears. The available characters depend on theselected writing language.

If the next letter you want is located on the same key asthe present one, wait until the cursor appears, and enterthe letter.

To access the most common punctuation marks and specialcharacters, press 1 repeatedly. To access the list of specialcharacters, press *.

Predictive text inputPredictive text input is based on a built-in dictionary towhich you can also add new words.

1 Start writing a word, using the keys 2 to 9. Press eachkey only once for one letter.

2 To confirm a word, scroll right or add a space.

• If the word is not correct, press * repeatedly, andselect the word from the list.

• If the ? character is displayed after the word, theword you intended to write is not in the dictionary.To add the word to the dictionary, select Spell.Enter the word using traditional text input, andselect Save.

• To write compound words, enter the first part ofthe word, and scroll right to confirm it. Write thelast part of the word, and confirm the word.

Navigate the menus

The phone functions are grouped into menus. Not all menufunctions or option items are described here.

In the standby mode, select Menu and the desired menuand submenu. Select Exit or Back to exit the current levelof menu. Press the end key to return to the standby modedirectly. To change the menu view, select Menu >Options > Main menu view.

Messaging

You can read, write, send, and save text, multimedia,audio, and flash messages, and e-mail . The messagingservices can only be used if your network or serviceprovider supports them.

Text and multimedia messagesYou can create a message and optionally attach, forexample, a picture. Your phone automatically changes atext message to a multimedia message when a file isattached.

Text messagesYour device supports text messages beyond the limit for asingle message. Longer messages are sent as two or moremessages. Your service provider may charge accordingly.Characters with accents, other marks, or some languageoptions take more space, and limit the number ofcharacters that can be sent in a single message.

An indicator at the top of the display shows the totalnumber of characters left and the number of messagesneeded to send.

Before you can send messages, you must save yourmessage center number. Select Menu > Messaging >Message settings > Text messages > Messagecenters > Add center, enter a name, and the number fromthe service provider.

Multimedia messagesA multimedia message can contain text, pictures, andsound or video clips.

Only devices that have compatible features can receive anddisplay multimedia messages. The appearance of amessage may vary depending on the receiving device.

The wireless network may limit the size of MMS messages.If the inserted picture exceeds this limit, the device maymake it smaller so that it can be sent by MMS.

Important: Exercise caution when opening messages.Messages may contain malicious software or otherwise beharmful to your device or PC.

For availability and subscription to the multimediamessaging service (MMS), contact your service provider.You may also download the configuration settings.

Create a text or multimedia message1 Select Menu > Messaging > Create message >

Message.2 To add recipients, scroll to the To: field, and enter the

recipient’s number or e-mail address, or select Add toselect recipients from the available options. Select

attachment bar at the bottom of the display and selectthe desired type of content.

The message type is indicated at the top of the display andchanges automatically depending on the content of themessage.

Service providers may charge differently depending on themessage type. Check with your service provider for details.

E-mailAccess your POP3 or IMAP4 e-mail account with your deviceto read, write, and send e-mail. This e-mail application isdifferent from the SMS e-mail function.

Before you can use e-mail, ensure that you have the correctsettings. To check the availability and the settings of youre-mail account, contact your e-mail service provider. Youmay receive the e-mail configuration settings as aconfiguration message.

E-mail setup wizardThe e-mail setup wizard starts automatically if no e-mailsettings are defined in the phone. To start the setup wizardfor an additional e-mail account, select Menu >Messaging and the existing e-mail account. SelectOptions > Add mailbox to start the e-mail setup wizard.Follow the instructions on the display.

Write and send an e-mail

Write an e-mailSelect Menu > Messaging > Create message > E-mailmessage.

Attach a file to the e-mailSelect Options > Insert.

Send the e-mailPress the call key. Select the desired account if necessary.

Select Menu > Contacts.

You can save names and phone numbers in the phonememory and SIM card memory. In the phone memory, youcan save contacts with numbers and text items. Names andnumbers saved in the SIM card memory are indicated with

Add a contactSelect Names > Options > Add new contact.

Add details to a contactEnsure that the memory in use is either Phone or Phoneand SIM. Select Names, scroll to the name, and selectDetails > Options > Add detail.

Search for a contactSelect Names, and scroll through the list of contacts, orenter the first letters of the name.

Copy a contact between the phone memory and SIMcard memorySelect Names, scroll to the contact, and select Options >Copy contact. In the SIM card memory, you can save onlyone phone number for each name.

To select the SIM card or phone memory for your contacts,to select how the names and numbers in the contacts listare displayed, and to view the memory capacity forcontacts, select Settings.

You can send and receive a person's contact informationas a business card from a compatible device that supportsthe vCard standard.

ProfilesYour phone has various setting groups called profiles,which you can customize with ringing tones for differentevents and environments.

Select Menu > Settings > Profiles, the desired profile,and from the following options:Activate — to activate the selected profileCustomize — to change the profile settingsTimed — to set the profile to be active for a certain time.When the time set for the profile expires, the previousprofile that was not timed becomes active.

ConnectivityYour phone has several features that allow you to connectto other devices to transmit and receive data.

Bluetooth wireless technologyBluetooth technology allows you to connect your phone,using radio waves, to a compatible Bluetooth device within10 meters (32 feet).

This device is compliant with Bluetooth Specification 2.0 +EDR supporting the following profiles: generic access,generic object exchange, hands-free, headset, object push,file transfer, dial-up networking, service discoveryapplication, SIM access, and serial port. To ensureinteroperability between other devices supportingBluetooth technology, use Nokia approved accessories forthis model. Check with the manufacturers of other devicesto determine their compatibility with this device.

Features using Bluetooth technology increase the demandon battery power and reduce the battery life.

Set up a Bluetooth connectionSelect Menu > Settings > Connectivity > Bluetooth andtake the following steps:

1 Select My phone's name and enter a name for yourphone.

2 To activate Bluetooth connectivity select Bluetooth >On. indicates that Bluetooth is active.

3 To connect your phone with an audio enhancement,select Search for audio enhancements and thedevice to which you want to connect.

4 To pair your phone with any Bluetooth device in range,select Paired devices > Add new device.Scroll to a found device, and select Add.Enter a passcode (up to 16 characters) on your phoneand allow the connection on the other Bluetoothdevice.

If you are concerned about security, turn off the Bluetoothfunction, or set My phone's visibility to Hidden. AcceptBluetooth communication only from those you trust.

PC connection to the internetUse Bluetooth technology to connect your compatible PCto the internet without PC Suite software. Your phone musthave activated a service provider that supports internetaccess, and your PC has to support Bluetooth personal areanetwork (PAN). After connecting to the network accesspoint (NAP) service of the phone, and pairing with your PC,your phone automatically opens a packet data connectionto the internet.

Packet dataGeneral packet radio service (GPRS) is a network servicethat allows mobile phones to send and receive data overan internet protocol (IP)-based network.

To define how to use the service, select Menu >Settings > Connectivity > Packet data > Packet dataconnection and from the following options:When needed — to establish the packet data connectionwhen an application needs it. The connection is closedwhen the application is terminated.Always online — to automatically connect to a packetdata network when you switch the phone on

Your phone supports a digital rights management (DRM)system to protect acquired content. Always check thedelivery terms of any content and activation key beforeacquiring them, as they may be subject to a fee.

Digital rights management

Content owners may use different types of digital rightsmanagement (DRM) technologies to protect theirintellectual property, including copyrights. This deviceuses various types of DRM software to access DRM-protected content. With this device you can access contentprotected with OMA DRM 1.0. If certain DRM software fails

The plug variant is identified by

The battery can be charged anddischarged hundreds of times, but it willeventually wear out. When the talk andstandby times are noticeably shorterthan normal, replace the battery. Useonly Nokia approved batteries, andrecharge your battery only with Nokiaapproved chargers designated for thisdevice.

If a battery is being used for the firsttime or if the battery has not been usedfor a prolonged period, it may benecessary to connect the charger, thendisconnect and reconnect it to begincharging the battery. If the battery iscompletely discharged, it may takeseveral minutes before the chargingindicator appears on the display orbefore any calls can be made.

Safe removal. Always switch the deviceoff and disconnect the charger beforeremoving the battery.

Proper charging. Unplug the chargerfrom the electrical plug and the devicewhen not in use. Do not leave a fullycharged battery connected to a charger,

since overcharging may shorten itslifetime. If left unused, a fully chargedbattery will lose its charge over time.

Avoid extreme temperatures. Always tryto keep the battery between 59°F and77°F (15°C and 25°C). Extremetemperatures reduce the capacity andlifetime of the battery. A device with ahot or cold battery may not worktemporarily. Battery performance isparticularly limited in temperatureswell below freezing.

Do not short-circuit. Accidental short-circuiting can occur when a metallicobject such as a coin, clip, or pen causesdirect connection of the positive (+) andnegative (-) terminals of the battery.(These look like metal strips on thebattery.) This might happen, forexample, when you carry a spare batteryin your pocket or purse. Short-circuitingthe terminals may damage the batteryor the connecting object.

Disposal. Do not dispose of batteries ina fire as they may explode. Dispose ofbatteries according to local regulations.Please recycle when possible. Do notdispose as household waste.

Leak. Do not dismantle, cut, open, crush,bend, puncture, or shred cells orbatteries. In the event of a battery leak,prevent battery liquid contact with skinor eyes. If this happens, flush theaffected areas immediately with water,or seek medical help.

Damage. Do not modify, remanufacture,attempt to insert foreign objects intothe battery or immerse or expose it towater or other liquids. Batteries mayexplode if damaged.

Correct use. Use the battery only for itsintended purpose. Improper battery usemay result in a fire, explosion, or otherhazard. If the device or battery isdropped, especially on a hard surface,and you believe the battery has beendamaged, take it to a service center forinspection before continuing to use it.Never use any charger or battery that isdamaged. 6 Seguridad


Inicio

Insertar la tarjeta SIM y la bateríaRetiro seguro. Apague siempre el dispositivo y desconecteel cargador antes de retirar la batería.

La tarjeta SIM y sus contactos pueden dañarse fácilmenteal rayarse o doblarse, así que tenga cuidado al manipular,insertar o retirar la tarjeta.

1 Presione y deslice la cubierta posterior hacia la parteinferior del teléfono y retírela (1).

2 Retire la batería (2).3 Abra el soporte de la tarjeta SIM (3), inserte la tarjeta

SIM con la superficie de contacto hacia abajo (4) y cierreel soporte (5).

Cargar la bateríaLa batería se ha cargado parcialmente en la fábrica. Si eldispositivo indica que la carga es baja, realice lo siguiente:

1 Conecte el cargador a un tomacorriente de pared.2 Conecte el cargador al dispositivo.3 Cuando el dispositivo indique que la carga está

completa, desconecte el cargador del dispositivo,luego del tomacorriente de pared.

No necesita cargar la batería una cantidad determinada detiempo, y puede usar el dispositivo mientras se carga. Si labatería está completamente descargada, es posible quepasen varios minutos antes de que el indicador de carga

Antena

Su dispositivo puede tener una antena interna y unaexterna. Evite tocar el área de la antena innecesariamentedurante la transmisión o la recepción. El contacto con lasantenas afecta la calidad de la comunicación y puedeaumentar el nivel de energía durante el funcionamiento,lo que puede reducir la duración de la batería.

Auricular

Aviso:Cuando utilice el auricular, su capacidad para oír lossonidos exteriores puede verse afectada. No use elauricular en condiciones que pongan su seguridad enpeligro.

Cuando conecte al Conector Nokia AV algún dispositivoexterno o auricular que no sean los aprobados por Nokiapara este dispositivo, preste especial atención a los nivelesde volumen.

No conecte productos que emitan una señal de salida,porque puede dañar el dispositivo. No conecte ningunafuente de voltaje al Conector Nokia AV.

Memoria compartidaLas siguientes funciones del dispositivo pueden compartirmemoria: mensajería multimedia (MMS), aplicación de e-mail, mensajería instantánea. El uso de una o más de estasfunciones puede reducir la memoria disponible para lasfunciones restantes. Si el dispositivo muestra un mensajeque indica que la memoria está llena, elimine algunosdatos almacenados en la memoria compartida.



Códigos de accesoEl código de seguridad ayuda a proteger el teléfono contrael uso no autorizado. El código predeterminado es 12345.Puede crear y cambiar el código y configurar el teléfonopara que solicite el código. Mantenga el código en un lugarsecreto y seguro separado de su teléfono. Si olvida elcódigo y su teléfono está bloqueado, éste requeriráservicio y pueden aplicar cargos adicionales. Para obtenermás información, comuníquese con un punto Nokia Care ocon el distribuidor de su teléfono.

El código PIN que se incluye en la tarjeta SIM lo protege deluso de otros usuarios no autorizados. El código PIN2 quese incluye con algunas tarjetas SIM es necesario para teneracceso a ciertos servicios. Si ingresa el código de PIN o PIN2incorrectamente tres veces seguidas, se le solicitará elcódigo PUK o PUK2. Si no tiene estos códigos, comuníquesecon su proveedor de servicios.

El PIN de módulo es necesario para acceder a lainformación que se encuentra en el módulo de seguridadde su tarjeta SIM. El PIN de firma se puede requerir para lafirma digital. La contraseña de bloqueo es necesariacuando usa el servicio de bloqueo de llamadas.

Accesos directos de marcación

Asignar un número de teléfono a una tecla de númeroSeleccione Menú > Contactos > Marcación rápida,desplácese hasta el número que desea (de 2 a 9) yseleccione Asignar. Ingrese el número de teléfonodeseado o seleccione Buscar y un contacto guardado.

Escribir texto

Modos de textoPara ingresar texto (por ejemplo, cuando escribemensajes) puede usar el ingreso de texto tradicional o elingreso de texto predictivo.

Cuando escriba texto, mantenga pulsada Opc. paraalternar entre el ingreso de texto tradicional, indicado con

y el ingreso de texto predictivo, indicado con . Notodos los idiomas pueden usar el ingreso de textopredictivo.

Las mayúsculas/minúsculas se indican con , , y .

Para cambiar entre mayúsculas o minúsculas, pulse la tecla#. Para cambiar del modo alfabético al numérico, indicadocon , mantenga pulsada la tecla #, y seleccione Modonumérico. Para cambiar del modo numérico al alfabético,mantenga pulsada la tecla #.

Para configurar el idioma de escritura, seleccione Opc. >Idioma escritura.

Ingreso de texto tradicionalPulse una tecla numérica, de 2 a 9, varias veces, hasta queaparezca el carácter deseado. Los caracteres disponiblesdependen del idioma de escritura seleccionado.

Si la siguiente letra que desea ingresar está localizada enla misma tecla de la que acaba de ingresar, espere hastaque aparezca el cursor, e ingrese la letra.

Para acceder a los signos de puntuación y caracteresespeciales más comunes, pulse varias veces la teclanumérica 1. Para acceder a la lista de caracteres especiales,pulse la tecla *.

Ingreso de texto predictivoEl ingreso de texto predictivo se basa en un diccionarioincorporado al que se pueden agregar palabras nuevas.

1 Empiece a escribir una palabra usando las teclas de 2a 9. Pulse cada tecla sólo una vez para una letra.

2 Para confirmar una palabra, desplácese hacia laderecha o agregue un espacio.

• Si la palabra no es correcta, pulse la tecla * variasveces y seleccione la palabra en la lista.

• Si aparece el carácter ? después de la palabra,significa que esa palabra no está en el diccionario.Para agregar la palabra al diccionario, seleccioneDeletreo. Ingrese la palabra usando el ingreso detexto tradicional y seleccione Guardar.

• Para escribir palabras compuestas, ingrese laprimera parte de la palabra y desplácese hacia laderecha para confirmarla. Escriba la última partede la palabra y confirme la palabra.

Mensajería

Puede leer, escribir, enviar y guardar mensajes de texto, deaudio, multimedia y flash y e-mail. Los servicios demensajería sólo se pueden usar si su red o proveedor deservicios los admite.

Mensajes de texto y multimediaPuede crear un mensaje y adjuntarle, por ejemplo, unaimagen. Su teléfono cambia de manera automática unmensaje de texto a un mensaje multimedia al adjuntarleun archivo.

Mensajes de textoSu dispositivo puede enviar mensajes de texto queexcedan el límite de caracteres para un único mensaje. Losmensajes más largos se envían como una serie de dos omás mensajes. Es posible que su proveedor de servicios lecobre los cargos correspondientes. Los caracteres con tildeu otros signos, y los caracteres especiales de algunosidiomas ocupan más espacio, lo que limita el número decaracteres que se pueden enviar en un solo mensaje.

26 Mensajería


El indicador que aparece en la parte superior de la pantallamuestra el número total de caracteres restantes y lacantidad de mensajes que se necesita para el envío.

Antes de enviar mensajes, debe guardar el número delcentro de mensajes. Seleccione Menú > Mensajería >Config. mensajes > Mensajes de texto > Centros demensajes > Agregar centro, ingrese un nombre y elnúmero del proveedor de servicios.

Mensajes multimediaUn mensaje multimedia puede incluir texto, imágenes yclips de sonido o videoclips.

Sólo los dispositivos con funciones compatibles puedenrecibir y mostrar mensajes multimedia. La apariencia deun mensaje puede variar dependiendo del dispositivoreceptor.

La red celular puede limitar el tamaño de los mensajesMMS. Si la imagen insertada excede ese límite, eldispositivo podrá reducir su tamaño para enviarla por MMS.

Importante: Tenga precaución al abrir los mensajes. Losmensajes pueden contener software malicioso o dañar dealguna manera el dispositivo o la PC.

Para conocer la disponibilidad y suscribirse al servicio demensajería multimedia (MMS), comuníquese con elproveedor de servicios. También puede descargar losajustes de configuración.
