2

WHAT IS NRR?

Noise Reduction Rating - a unit of measurement, based on ANSI requirements, to compare the effectiveness of hearing protection devices to reduce noise levels. The higher the NRR number associated with a hearing protector, the greater the potential for noise reduction.

WHAT IS SNR?

Single Number Rating which provides a single overall attenuation value, based on European EN352 requirements, for quick comparison between hearing protectors. A SNR of 25 is a hearing protector that attenuates, on average, 25dB across the whole frequency band. The higher the SNR value, the more attenuation is achieved.

Please Note: NRR and SNR values are calculated in different ways, and therefore should not be compared against each other.

WHAT ARE H, M & L?

H, M & L values give more information on the attenuation characteristics of the hearing protector in 3 frequency ranges.

H – average attenuation values for High frequency sounds greater than or equal to 2000Hz.

M – average attenuation values for Medium frequency sounds between 500Hz and 2000Hz.

L – average attenuation values for Low frequency sounds that are less than or equal to 500Hz.

WHAT CAN YOU DO WITH MEAN ATTENUATION VALUES?

Mean Attenuation values show the most detailed attenuation data, by presenting the average attenuation of the test results at specific frequencies, ranging from 125Hz to 8000Hz. If noise levels at these frequencies are known, the resulting transmission levels to the ear can be calculated.

WHAT CAN YOU LEARN FROM STANDARD DEVIATION VALUES?

Because every ear is unique, no two test subjects will give the same test results. Therefore, Standard Deviation values provide the maximum amount of variation in attenuation performance, from the Mean, when using the relevant hearing protection.

WHAT ABOUT ASSUMED PROTECTION (APV) VALUES?

The APV value is the minimum expected attenuation in each of the octave bands that will be obtained from that particular hearing protector. If the APV value is not provided, then it is equal to the Mean Attenuation - Standard Deviation in each band.

NOISE & LEISURE: SHOOTERS

SoundgearHearing is an important advantage for competitive shooters and hunters. SoundGear amplifies and protects this most vital sense with proven and superior hearing technology. This advanced digital technology delivers environmental awareness while simultaneously protecting the user’s hearing from gun blasts.

SoundGear devices are the only shooter and hunter protection devices that have been designed to provide users with superior wind noise reduction. The proprietary Acoustic Signature technology detects and classifies wind, providing clarity in situations that matter most. SoundGear Custom Fit, in the ear (ITE) devices, are designed to further ensure maximum wind reduction, by using a helix microphone. SoundGear in the canal (ITC) provides a generic solution to protection and fitting.

SoundGear devices also utilise best-in-class feedback cancellation technology to ensure a virtually whistle free experience for the wearer.

The behind the ear (BTE) and Custom Fit (ITE) models are available in two different product technology levels with varying feature sets. The BTE, ITE and ITC models offer compact design and provide ultimate comfort. SoundGear devices can be worn throughout the day with ease.

All styles of SoundGear devices offer optimal Noise Reduction Ratings (NRR) of 25 dB for the ITC, 24 dB for the ITE and 26 dB for the BTE.

NOISE & LEISURE: MUSICIANS & CONCERTS

PerformER & ProtectER by Cluistrom For a musician, hearing isn’t just a means of communication—it’s a way of life. Constant exposure to high sound levels can affect a musician’s ability to make crucial sonic adjustments during a performance. Musicians Filtered Custom Earmoulds use flat-response attenuators, so that sound heard through the filters has the same quality as the original sound, just quieter.

Musicians Filtered Custom Earmoulds attenuate sound across all frequencies rather than just low- and mid-range frequencies, making music more clear and natural sounding. Unlike traditional earplugs which introduce a frequency bias, our Musician Filtered Custom Earmoulds are designed using soft silicone to protect your hearing, while delivering clear sound across all frequencies — available with 10, 15, 25 or 30 interchangeable filters.

Worksafe PRO by CluistromSoft silicone filtered earmoulds for safety at work. Using the same soft silicone material that is used for the Musicians earmoulds PerformER and ProtectER, the Worksafe Pro provides both comfort, and noise attenuation in work environments. The silicone is highly stable, has high tensile strength, and will withstand most chemicals. Each filter is interchangeable, easy to clean and dirt resistant. The design of the mould ensures the filter is held securely in the silicone. Choose the filter based on the level of noise attenuation you require – the Alpha filter will protect against most situations.
