ABOUT NURSINGPROFESSION
This is an incredibly exciting time to become a Nurse. Nursing profession is
undergoing a radical educational and professional transformation with
Nurses taking on greater responsibilities and enjoying more opportunities
than ever to progress in a range of fascinating specialist areas.
Nursing as a profession is a richly rewarding and unique occupation that
involves a diverse range of abilities including being able to lead, make
clinical decisions, communicate well and provide comfort and support to
people in need.
The founder of this profession is sister Florence Nightingale who was born
on 12 May 1820 and was a British social reformer and statistician,
Nightingale came to prominence while serving as a manager and trainer of
nurses during the Crimean War, in which she organised care for wounded
soldiers. Nightingale herself wandered the wards at night, providing
support to the patients; this earned her the title of "Lady with the Lamp." She
gained the respect of the soldiers and medical establishment alike.
Nightingale's strenuous efforts during Crimean war influenced her to
establish nursing as a profession. She pioneered the concept of education
for nurses and influenced the nursing education to a great extent.
The nursing career you choose will ultimately result from a combination of
education and experience you obtain early in your career.
SISTER FLORENCE NIGHTINGALE(THE FOUNDER OF MODERN NURSING)
