The European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) is a system for transferring university credits throughout Europe. It is based on the clearness and transparency of the students’ plans of study and on the assignment of appropriate credits for work completed. The objective of this system is to guarantee that credits for the courses and exams taken during the period spent abroad are granted and recognized according to clear rules, known to students before leaving and based on precise agreements ruled by mechanisms that are common to all the institutions participating in the Programme.

Ca’ Foscari University of Venice, according to the European directives regulating the ECTS, has established that the equivalence of credits is 1 CFU = 1 ECTS. The ECTS scale used for converting marks is based on a statistical distribution of marks in each Faculty.

A table for converting marks is available at www.unive.it/ECtS-english

For further information visit www.crui.it/crui/ECtS/english/index.htm

RUles foR admissioN iN a degRee pRogRammeIn order to be admitted to the First Cycle Degree Programmes/Bachelor’s Degree students are required to have a 12-years school education. As required by current Italian law, in order to be admitted to a Second Cycle Degree Programme/Master’s Degree, the applicant must hold an academic degree from a three-year (or longer) programme granted by a foreign university, or alternatively, a similar qualification from a three-year (or longer) programme awarded by a post-secondary, foreign, non-university institution of higher education which would allow the student to continue his or her studies in a university of that country at the next highest level.A new admission procedure for international students has been defined starting from the academic year 2011/2012. In particular, international students intending to enrol in First or Second Cycle Degree Programmes can ask for the evaluation of their qualification and school career before starting the official enrolment procedure. The evaluation procedure is available online and entails the electronic delivery of all of the required documents: such documents will be then assessed by the Welcome and Enrolment Office and sent to the Teaching Committees of the Degree Programmes involved.For further information: www.unive.it/evaluationadmission procedures vary according to the student status:non-Eu students residing abroad > pre-enrolment application forms will be submitted to the Italian Diplomatic Delegation in the Country where the qualification was awarded, for a single course and a single Italian University only, within a deadline fixed by the Ministry every year. The number of places available for each degree course is defined by each course every year and can be found on the University website www.unive.it. Students are required to take a test assessing the Italian language knowledge, that is generally held in early September every year.European students and non-EU students residing in Europe > such category also includes nationals from Iceland, Norway, Switzerland and non-EU nationals that, living in Italy with regular residence permit. Students are entitled to be admitted to University under the same terms and conditions as those of the Italian students. Some documents can be self-certified by using an appropriate form in Italian.For any further details on the validity of educational qualifications gained abroad, deadlines to be met and any necessary documents refer to the Ca’ Foscari website: www.unive.it/international_students as well as on the Italian Education site www.study-in-italy.it

Before taking my First Cycle Degree I did not have any good prospects for my future. Studying in Venice was a turning point: the city and its pace gave me the chance to open up to a world where there was no single language and no single way to see things. My relationship with the university was not without difficulty, but at the end of my educational career I can say that I am satisfied and that the person I was when I arrived in Venice is completely different from the person I am now.Marco, First Cycle Degree in Social Sciences and Social Work Studies

For my First Cycle Degree Programme I chose Accounting and Finance. While at the beginning my decision was not based on solid grounds, now I can say that I am very happy with the decision I made: courses are interesting, alternating more theoretical subjects with more practical ones, and there are increasing opportunities available to contact companies and organisations and to put what I learnt into practice.Monica, First Cycle Degree Programme in Accounting and Finance

To me, studying at Ca’ Foscari meant moving to a new city and coming into contact with a world that was unknown before, a world made of continuous challenges, of daily relationships with people with the most different ideas, skills, inclinations and experiences. In this environment, I discovered an infinite range of study curricula and I eventually found the one that was most congenial to me.

Stefano, Second Cycle Degree Programme in Languages and Cultures of East Asia

After my First Cycle Degree in Letters I was firmly determined to continue my studies elsewhere, maybe in a big city, a metropolis, a totally different setting than Venice. A few days before enrolling I changed my mind and decided to stay in Venice and to attend the Second Cycle Degree Programme in Italian Philology and Literature. Because this is Venice: after a first initial impact it starts being part of you. You start feeling at home strolling through calli and campi [Venetian streets and squares], going over your lesson in the university study rooms, waiting for a lecture relaxing in the garden of San Sebastiano [the humanistic campus]. And then the professors, with their background and personal character make you love a subject or an author that you would have never considered before.

ca’ foscari challenge school is a branch of Ca’ Foscari University which is dedicated at the offering and managing of University Specialist Master’s Programmes and, in general, of Life Long Learning Programs. The main aim of the School is to translate knowledge into skills by adding to ‘knowledge’ the expressions ‘apply’ and ‘develop’, in line with that original mission which represents Ca’ Foscari foundation. The School offers four patterns of advanced training programs: post-graduate, through University Specialist Master’s Programmes usually addressed to newly graduated students; executive, with short-term courses and Specialist Master’s Programmes addressed to individuals who are already the world of work and who are looking for vocational contents; mBa / dBa, complex training programs, addressed to individuals who wish to acquire managing skills actually ‘having’ an educational experience; extended, through a broad set of initiatives that allow you to develop widespread skills, also thanks to the use of modern media.

The internship I did thanks to Ca’ Foscari University was one of the most stimulating, interesting and educational experiences I have ever had [...] I think everybody benefits from such an experience: students, because they gain skills and have the chance to show their abilities; companies, because they can test prospective employees; and the university, becuase it fully plays its educational and training role.Dario, Second Cycle Degree Programme in Economics and Finance

I was driven by the curiosity to actually see what my university was training me for, and during the third year of my First Cycle Degree Programme I did a two-month internship in an accounting firm. It is was an illuminating experience. I really put my skills and my studies into practice and could get an insider view of the work environment of freelancers and their staff. Now I am enrolled in a Second Cycle Degree Programme and want to experience the corporate environment.Monica, Second Cycle Degree Programme in Accounting and Finance

I am an alumnus in the Erasmus Mundus Program in Quantitative Economics(QEM) and I spent my last year of the program in the Ca’Foscari University, Venice. The course structure is very good with a wide range of courses to choose, both practical and theoretical, with excellent professors. The administrative staff of the University is very helpful. I had a great extracurricular experience in Venice as Venice is a beautiful place to go around and I met many friends from different countries. I had a very pleasing time knowing the culture, art, food and language of beautiful and lovely Italy. Chand, Second Cycle Degree Programme in Economics

health careEuropean and EU-equated students European and EU-equated students are covered for all necessary care by the Italian National Health Service: you just need to have your European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) issued by your national health authorities. If you don’t have it, you should contact the health service in your country prior to your departure. The card ensures that you will get the same access to public sector health care as nationals of the country you are visiting. The idea is that you are given the care you need to allow you to continue with your stay. However, it is important to note that the card does not cover for private sector health care providers.non–European Students Non-European students have to provide evidence of health insurance when applying for the Stay Permit. Students without Health Insurance can:- obtain a consular statement confirming that they are

entitled to medical care based on an agreement between Italy and their home country;

- get a private health insurance policy in their home country, and obtain a statement of its validity for Italy from the competent Italian Consulate; such statement must also contain the length and type of services covered and it must confirm that the contract does not imply any limitations of or exceptions for any charge for urgent hospitalization during the time period it may be necessary;

- get a health insurance policy with an Italian company such as Istituto Nazionale delle Assicurazioni (INA), which offers a special insurance policy to cover medical assistance.

lifE in vEniCE One of the most eagerly awaited moments in a Venetian student’s day is the so-called aperitivo in campo: from the afternoon till late in the evening, Campo Santa Margherita and Erbarìa turn into venues where people chat, meet other people, listen to music and where Venetian spritz and cichetti – the traditional aperitif cocktail and snacks that come with it – are a must.Other not-to-be-missed events of the Venetian calendar are:- the Carnival, usually in February, that involves all Venetian squares with its parties and turns them into a kind of outdoor clubs;- Redentore feast (Festa del Redentore), a festival of popular tradition, where Saint Mark’s basin fills up with boats and the streets (the so-called ‘calli’) with sumptuously laid tables for the colourful dinner, awaiting the spectacular fireworks that light up the lagoon;- another appointment that art and architecture lovers should not miss is the famous Biennale, an international exhibition showing works of art and architectural projects by the greatest contemporary artists;- moreover, in September the Lido of Venice hosts the International Film Festival of Venice, where emerging movie directors and influential artists show their new works.

Deciding to study at Ca’ Foscari means deciding to live in Venice: a unique experience, because living in Venice is not like living in any other city.Venice is where past meets innovation. Every day this city offers its inhabitants, for the most part students, the chance to stimulate their thirst for knowledge through its several and varied initiatives.Living Venice is living art, architecture, culture, development, research, attention to the environment, and discovering ancient traditions and different cultures.Venice means the chance to meet the whole world in each of its small squares (campi in Venetian language).
