Community involvement

I have lived in the local Armadale catchment area since

1970 and was privileged to be invited onto the Armadale

Health Service Consumer Advisory Council in 2011

There is growing evidence about the importance of

partnerships between health service organisations,

health professionals, patients, families, carers and

consumers

Quality statement 3 – Information on treatment options

A patient with a suspected infection, and/or their carer, receives

information on their health condition and treatment options in a

format and language that they can understand.

- to inform patients and/or their carer about their clinical condition so that they can

participate in the decision-making process about their treatment which may or may not

include antibiotics

Quality statement 5 – Taking antibiotics as prescribed

When a patient is prescribed antibiotics, information about when,

how and for how long to take them, as well as potential side effects

and a review plan, is discussed with the patient and/or their carer.

Of the 30 people surveyed:

saying that he “relied on the experts”

21% of patients were informed of the course duration ofantibiotics

6% of patients were informed of possible side effects
