What is No Code App Development?

• The creation of applications without code

• Uses a visual development environment

• Allows non-developers to create apps

• Uses methods such as drag-and-drop, spreadsheets, and selection of app components

• Shifts IT / Development Workload to Business Units

What is No Code App Development?Definitions:

• Low Code – Platforms that use minimal hand-coding, to supplement No Code development.

• Citizen Developer – Users who build applications to facilitate business processes while following the development guidelines of IT.

The No Code Revolution

More and more software applications like Salesforce, Pipedrive, Trello, Airtable, and others have built platforms based on no-code principals.

Some of these apps focus on specific functions like sales teams. Others deliver more general collaboration.

Whatever the application, no-code software strategies typically include four areas of focus:

The No Code RevolutionFour Areas of Focus:

• Provide drag and drop "widgets" or other elements that can be visually organized to build apps or configure business processes

• Create simple "filters" and data queries to empower instant customization

• Use APIs to easily integrate data from various web services or other applications

• Broaden appeal to non-technical users versus targeting traditional developers

The No Code Revolution

• The accessibility and speed of No Code solutions allows an increase in growth and productivity.

• “Coding is not the main event anymore. Building software is the main event. Coding is just one small part of it.We think the future of coding is no coding at all.We think autonomous coding is a very real thing.”

-CEO at GitHub, Chris Wanstrath, October 2017

A Few No Code and Low Code Platforms

No Code App Demo – Glide – District 14

• Our District 14 Recently produced a Handbook

• Our District passes around a notebook at each meeting to take role, and get contact info and its often hard to read

• As a semi-real world demo, here’s what an App for our district might look like, created with

NAATW Glide App – The Process

The need for a conference app was mentioned in a Pr0gram Committee Meeting

Glide was recommended as a solution

And this began the process…

NAATW Glide App – The ProcessThe first thing I did was watch some Videos on the Glide website, and tried to make the app from scratch

It was taking a long time to get just a little bit done, there was an initial learning curve

I didn’t like where it was going

But… I did get over the initial learning curve of getting familiar with GlideApps

So, I chose to start over by copying the most similar template. Right around that time, GlideApps released a “Conference” demo template

I remembered - It is always better to build on existing components!

Glide’s Conference Demo Template had a reasonable Schedule feature using the ‘Calendar’ component

There are many similarities that can be seen between the Glide Conference App template and the NAATW App

Takeaways• Both no-code and low-code platforms can help organizations rapidly

deploy new capabilities without the same overhead that typical custom software development projects require.

• The No Code Revolution is Real and it will be a part of the evolving landscape for solving business problems. Expect to hear the term ‘Building Software’ more in the future

• Glide Rocks!
