Dear Parents, As the leaves turn and the apples on trees near the school ripen and drop we are reminded that our Harvest celebration is approaching. We will be celebrating Harvest Festival on Wednesday 5 th October, when Wendy Clark from the Twickenham branch of the Salvation Army will be com- ing in to join us for assemblies with the Juniors and the Infants. We would be most grateful if you would start thinking about putting aside some non-perishable food goods to bring in on Tuesday 4 th October (not before as we have nowhere to store them!). They will then be distributed by the Salvation Army to people in need. Thank you. Photographer Andrew Wilson came into school this week to take photographs for a forthcoming book about Kew and the surrounding area due to be published later this year. He was able to get some lovely shots and we are looking forward to seeing what comes of this venture. We will keep you posted. The Infants were treated to a special Spanish assembly on Thursday and we hope this will inspire many of them to join our new Spanish Club. We have now set the term dates for 2012-13 (time flies!), which you will find with this newslet- ter. They will also be posted on our website. I wish you all a relaxing weekend. Anne Dobell Headteacher’s Commendation Congratulations to the following children who received the award this week: Alice T in 4F for a fantastic holiday diary; Ruby B in 5S for a wonderful piece of Creative Writing; Edie W in 5L for excellent Creative Writing; Ned P in 5L for fantastic Creative Writing; Jasmin M in 3S for a great holiday diary. Well done, children!

IMPORTANT: CHANGE TO OPEN MORNING TIMINGS

Open Mornings will be held for Kindergarten, Year 1, Year 2, Year 3 and Year 4 in the week be-ginning Monday 10th October, from 8.20 a.m. to 8.35 a.m. This is a chance for you to come into your child’s classroom and see the work the children have been doing. They are always very proud to show off their achievements! These sessions can get quite crowded and so in order to avoid congestion, they will now take place as follows:

Monday 10th October: 2B first half of the register and 2M first half of the register. 3B and 3S (whole class). Tuesday 11th October: 2B second half of the register and 2M second half of the register. Kindergarten Blue and Kindergarten Green (whole class). Wednesday 12th October: 1B first half of the register and 1M first half of the register. 4F and 4L (whole class). Thursday 13th October: 1B second half of the register and 1M second half of the register.

If you are unsure of which half of the register your child is in, please ask the form teacher. If you have any difficulty with the change of date, we are of course prepared to be flexible. Thank you.

The Open Mornings after Half-Term will work in the same way: Monday 21st November: 2B first half and 2M first half. 3B and 3S (whole class) Tuesday 22nd November: 2B second half and 2M second half KG Blue and KG Green (whole class) Wednesday 23rd November: 1B first half and 1M first half 4F and 4L (whole class) Thursday 24th November: 1B second half and 1M second half.

We had a wonderful trip; thank you to all our help-

ers. Although it drizzled for a bit we were very

lucky with the weather. Our workshops were a

great success. Headers, footers, frogs and stretch-

ers are all brick making terminology we are now

familiar with. The children engaged with the clay

with enthusiasm when making their bricks and had

fun scrubbing their tea-towels on wash boards. Af-

ter lunch we explored a range of buildings including

an old telephone box. Highlights of the day, apart

from the sheep, were the tin bath, the outside toi-

let in the Victorian Toll House and the range of

vegetables being grown in the back garden of the

Amersham Prefab.

This week it was Kindergarten Blue’s turn to go to Pizza

Express! As we walked eagerly to Pizza Express in Kew

Village we discussed what our favourite types of pizza

were and what topping we would be using. After we

arrived we all put on our aprons and washed our hands

we were ready to start. The dough was already in the

pizza pan for us but we had to spread the fresh tomato

sauce over it which wasn’t as easy as it sounds! Then

came the fun part, decorating our pizzas. All the chil-

dren showed great imagination and artistic flare when it

came to decoration their pizzas. When we got back to

school the pizza were cool enough to taste, and they

were delicious. Kindergarten Blue had a wonderful trip

and all the children behaved beautifully, well done and

a huge big thank you to Ms Worthington, Ms Tick, Mrs

Hazel and Miss Eve for their help in making our trip to

Pizza Express such a success, thank you.

On Thursday 22nd September, Year 4 A Team played their first match of the sea-son against Orchard House. Orchard House had centre ball and scored from their first attack. After this early set-back we got into our stride, intercepted and passed the ball well, creating some good chances. The first half was very even, but unfortunately Orchard House scored again, just before half time. After a good half time team talk, we started quickly in the second half and our efforts were rewarded quickly, we passed really quickly and Jessica scored from a long shot. Even better, Amelia then lev-elled the score. We were unlucky not to get a third before the end of the game. It was a hard match, but we enjoyed it. Camilla Y4

Year 4 girls played a netball match on Thursday 22nd September against Orchard House. The B team won by 1 goal to nil. We improved on spacing, passing and scor-ing. We worked really well as a team. It was amazing how quickly the time went. Bella scored a goal in the first half. At half time we all gathered round to talk about how we could improve our tac-tics. We got back into action and started the game again. We intercepted the ball and managed to stop Orchard House from scoring any goals in the second half. We had won. Everyone had a great time. Well done B team! Heather Y4
