Sunday Services, July 22, 2018

Worship services 8:30 a.m. and 10:45 a.m.

Sunday School Classes for all ages 9:45 a.m.

On July 9, MUMC’s Charge Conference voted to affirm Cory Phillips’ entry into the Candidacy process toward be-

coming a Local Pastor in the United Methodist Church. Here is picture from that meeting of Cory, Rev. Barry, Rev.

Connie Shelton (District Superintendent), and Paul Young (our church’s Lay Leader).

On Sunday, August 5, we will begin a new sermon series on the book of Proverbs. Our church family is being asked

to read a one chapter of that book every day in the month of August. Each Sunday we will share in a sermon from

that week’s readings. We hope that this wil be a time to see the beauty and power of God’s wisdom and our response

to it.

WEDNESDAYS AT MADISON

Wednesday Night Fellowship Meals and Programming

have ended for the summer. We will resume in August!!

PAT BRUCE MISSION OUTREACH

There are 37 students eligible to receive school uniforms, supplies, belts and

backpacks through the Pat Bruce Mission Outreach program. Their mothers

successfully completed classes in basic computer, financial planning and living

skills, i.e., exercise and nutrition.

To make a tax deductible contribution or sponsor a student, call 601-573-2183

or mail to 110 Greenfield Way, Madison, MS 39110.

MADCAAP FOOD PANTRY STILL NEEDS OUR HELP!

56% of Mississippi's senior citizens don't have enough to eat ,

while 24% of our state's children go to bed hungry (According to

MSFN). The most vulnerable in our community must face hunger

on a daily basis.

MadCAAP's Food Pantry distributes food boxes to 100 client

families each week. Without fail, the need far exceeds what Mad-

CAAP has on hand.

Your donations of food will enable MadCAAP to continue feed-

ing our elders and our children. Putting food on a family's table

demonstrates love for our neighbors.

Won't you bring a can of vegetables or fruits, dried beans, canned meats, or cereals to insure that we can continue

feeding the hungry in our community? A donation table is located in the Fellowship Hall.

DR. NEIHOF TO PREACH JULY 29

Dr. John Neihof will preach at our worship services on Sunday, July 29. After twenty-three

years as a professor of communications and administrator at Kentucky Mountain Bible Col-

lege, Dr. John Neihof became the president of Wesley Biblical Seminary in 2013. He has

preached for camp meetings all over the country, too. His professional life has included class-

room teaching, student life administration, institutional advancement, ten years of pastoral

ministry, and fifteen years of evangelism throughout the pan-Wesleyan world. You will be

blessed to hear his preaching so please make a point to be with us on July 29 and invite some-

one to come with you.

PLEASE KEEP US INFORMED!

One of the most critical aspects of our life at MUMC

is the celebrations we share and the care we express

in times of joy and sorrow. Within our growing con-

gregation, we sometimes can miss even the most

significant of these events. Please help our staff and

leaders know of these moments by intentionally

sharing upcoming surgeries, hospitalizations, birth

announcements, deaths, funeral arrangements, ill-

nesses, etc. Please call the MUMC office (601-856-6058) to speak with, or email, Jackie McGough

([email protected]) or Anne Ellison ([email protected]). They will communicate this infor-

mation with the pastors and various staff as appropriate.

SUMMER IF GATHERING

Friday, August 3, 6:00-9:00 p.m., Multipurpose Room

and, hopefully, meet new friends to help us on our faith journey! Register online at http://

www.madisonumc.org/ifgathering no later than Monday, July 30th.

If you have any questions please contact [email protected] or Jaime Anderson at

August 1 All Students to Geyser Falls

PARENTS & STUDENTS … The Student Ministry is having our annual Family Discipleship

night on August 19. We will have dinner, play games, worship

together, and learn together! I hope that you and your student

will come! Our Speaker this year is our own Rev. Ben Butler.

Ben will share with us his heart for Family Discipleship and what

it might look like for families with kids to "be in ministry/

mission" together. A nursery will be available for younger sib-

lings. To help with planning, please let me know if you are com-

ing and if you will need childcare! If you have questions or need

more info, please let us know!

The Student Ministry at Madison UMC needs two brave individuals that

are willing to spend 45min each Sunday morning teaching the word of

God to the next generation. You don’t need to have extensive biblical

education or be a scholar, you just need to let God use you! If you are in-

terested in teaching Sunday school this year (August through July) then

contact Cory!

Anyone interested in plugging into student ministry come to our school

year planning meeting July 30 @ 6pm in the conference room ( all are welcome)!

M28 STUDENT CONFERENCE

Lake Junaluska, NC

July 1-5, 2018

HEY, HAVE YOU THOUGHT ABOUT …

TEACHING SUNDAY SCHOOL?

Before you automatically say, “NO,” hear me out!

I was thinking of all the reasons people tell me that can’t

teach Sunday School (some of them are listed below), and as

I was rereading Christopher Miles Ritter’s Seven Things

John Wesley Expected Us to Do for Kids, this really hit home – “We are called to ministry with children ‘gift or no

gift.’ As wonderful and needful as spiritual gifts are to the church, the lack of these gifts in not a legitimate excuse

for non-participation. To minister to children, as we ought, we are going to need to stretch ourselves. We need to

move past our comfort, over our excuses, outside our perceived gifts, and beyond…”

But, I’m not qualified … You do NOT have to be a Bible scholar to share Jesus with our children; you ONLY

need a heart for Jesus and a desire to share His love!

But I need to attend my Sunday School class to grow in my personal faith … the blessings you receive from

sharing your love for Jesus and the relationships you develop with our children (and their parents) will help fuel

your personal faith journey!

But I don’t want to teach every Sunday … we do ask for a school year commitment (a semester a minimum) be-

cause the same teacher(s) every Sunday helps reassure the children, helps the children develop lasting relation-

ships with Christian mentors, and helps improve the learning environment. You can always ask a friend to “team

teach” with you; this allows you to work around vacations, ball games, etc.

But … if you have questions or concerns about teaching, the commitment, etc., please let me know!

Our new Sunday School year begins on August 12, 2018, and ends in August 2019. Email or call me to volunteer!

1st graders are growing and learning so fast, and we think you are ready to learn more about how we worship in the

gust 5, all of our 1st graders will remain in the Sanctuary for the entire worship service. Come down for Chil-

dren’s Time and then go sit with your parents for the remainder of the service.

PROMOTION SUNDAY IS AUGUST 5
