A Call for Arms Your assistance at the Donation in Kind (DIK) warehouse at Edinburgh Parks, will greatly help the running of DIK, one of Rotary Australia World Community Service’s most dynamic but unsung programmes. The Rotary Foundation Districts Rotary Foundation Annual Programs Fund Let me begin by congratulating the following clubs for achieving the goal set for the clubs at the beginning of the year by our DG Eric of contributing $100 per club member to our Districts Annual Program Funds, as at 1st March. RC’s of Henley Beach, Two Wells, Maitland, Port Pirie, Prospect, Peterborough, Mawson Lakes, Makin Edge-Tea Tree Gully. Our total contribution to our Districts Humanitarian future projects stands at $49,415 this is well down on our target goal of $133,000. What makes the situation worse is the fact that personal giving by Rotarians via Centurion Club makes up over $14,600 of the $49,415 contributions to date. Rotarians if your club is not listed above I implore you to encourage your club board to consider making a donation to the Rotary Foundation Annual Programs Fund this month. The support of all clubs is essential if we as a District wish to engage in Group Study Exchanges (VTT,) Club and District Humanitarian Grants in the foreseeable future. ShelterBox and Rotary International sign project partnership'Historic moment for ShelterBox'ShelterBox and Rotary International (RI) have formed a project partner agreement this month, signed by John Hewko, Rotary International's General Secretary, and Tom Henderson OBE, ShelterBox Founder and CEO.

The formalisation of this partnership cements a 12-year relationship providing emergency shelter and life-saving humanitarian aid for hundreds of thousands of families around the world, who have been made homeless by disaster.

Near Disaster at Goolwa North The very last day of the trip and we got big winds. Started ok, but built and built. I recorded 20kn gusts. Although the wind was behind us it was still difficult paddling. Peter had the worst problem as his boat is just not designed for that sort of sea.

About a km down from the barrage in mid river Peter capsized. With the strength of the wind and waves I found it very difficult to even get alongside. Eventually managed and tied Peter's bow rope to my

kayak and started a tough tow, with Peter's boat full of water and him in the water alongside it. Fortunately, after about 50m Peter was able to touch bottom and start walking in thick sucking mud. I phoned our wives and got them to pick us up. No injuries thank goodness. We were about 3 km short of our destination. I had thoughts of finishing off tomorrow, however the forecast is for strong winds right through to Thursday at least. It will be completed. Russ & Pete.

PolioPlus ChallengeWe have this year as a district contributed over $40,600 to the PolioPlus Challenge. This takes our District, Club and personal contributions to the eradication of polio to in excess of $171,780 since the challenge started on 1st

December 2007 14 Clubs and their members have given a min of $1,000 this year. There are however many clubs who have not made a donation. Many of us are not in the position to directly assist as a volunteer to administer the polio vaccine but we can as clubs and individuals do our little bit by ensuring our club achieves the goal set last year at PETS & Assembly.

To raise awareness of Rotary’s contribution to the eradication of Polio by:

Running a club public activity that publicises our involvement, To use this activity e.g. BBQ, to raise funds from the community to support eradication project.

Act now in April and May for a positive outcome for your club.

Community Awareness through cooperation.

As part of our “win win” com-munity aware-ness program district 9500 & 9520 have agreed to assist the Red Shield Neighbourhood Appeal. The Salvation Army in South Australia has, in the past, enjoyed the on -going support of numerous Rotary Clubs. We are seeking to greatly expand this assistance from Rotarians with new clubs and individuals coming on board to collect for this important appeal.

Putting our Rotarian and friends “feet on the street” for this appeal is a tremendous opportunity to promote Rotary awareness in our community. To be seen in our Rotary clothing wearing our name plaques proudly beside the Salvos appeal ID badge is a strong demonstration of our dedication to service and willingness to form partnerships that will be of benet to those less fortunate than ourselves.

Please encourage your friends and most importantly your club to take an active part in this initiative to ensure that we maximise the “win win” benet to both our organisations. Register now and get organised for late May.

The Port Lincoln Surng weekend for the D9500 Inbound students just was great.

Everyone enjoyed themselves immensely, including the hosts!

ROTARIANS AGAINST MALARIA (RAM) is a branch of Rotary Australia World Community Service Ltd.

Australian Rotarians and their clubs are channelling anti malaria funds into aected areas in our designated Pacic Region (Solomons, PNG & Timor Leste) via the Adopt a Village Program (AAV), where Long Lasting Impregnated Nets which cost only A$10 are being distributed to families in manner prescribed by formula for household ages and sex; to their villages which are often dicult to reach, and via spraying huts, houses and mosquito breeding sites in a successful eort to reduce mortality. Funds and RAWCS Projects have also created warehouses and support for research and distribution of these nets.

Here’s How Peterborough are doing it for local Youths …and how you can helpThe energetic youth of Peterborough want a skate park. With the help from The Peterborough Youth Advisory Board they began running a regular sausage sizzle at the local monthly market. They have received some donations to their cause and now have an incredible $15,000. The ambitious target is $30,000 so the District Council has now voted to help them reach this goal by subsidizing subsequent funds raised n a dollar for dollar basis – until June 30th.So have a think about this. Rotary Club of Salisbury support of No Workshop No Jumpshot – Midnight Basket-ball Salisbury Tournament with Rotary International Foundation District Grant The Rotary Club of Salisbury has with the aid of money received from a Foundation District grant been able to assist the organisers of the Midnight Basketball Tournament by providing financial assistance toward the cost of transport for get-ting the participants home safely, as well as catering for one of the tournaments. Midnight Basketball has changed Saturday nights in Salisbury. Young people are flocking to the local recreation centre to participate.

The Rotary Club of Roxby District - "At Work in our Community"

On Saturday 24th March 2012 members of the RC of Roxby District got to 'work in our community' - Curdimurka Park in fact - a local park in Roxby Downs which the club adopted back in 2010. The club has previously installed some bench seating, however this time the project was 12 sqm of paving.

The club has sold "Engraving on Pavers" to businesses and local individuals as a means of fund raising - with all money raised to go back into further development within the park.

The efforts on Saturday resulted in the start of the paving - with a large Rotary wheel and club

details in the centre, surrounded by other businesses and family bricks. We even acknowledged our 1st LTYE student Bodie Henderson who is currently in Sweden.

It just looks fantastic!
