Introduction
This document provides a typical network deployment of Communication Server 1000 (CS1000) utilizing the XO Communications product offering. This document should serve as general guideline only, since it is not possible to document every possible variation of configuration. Further information may be obtained from your Nortel support representative. The CS1000E system is configured as a SIP gateway endpoint on the XO Communications network. The enterprise customer will require an additional signalling server for each SIP gateway that will be deployed as SIP trunking to the carrier. In the diagram shown below, the signalling server is shown as the onboard CP-PM option, but it can also be the outboard, rack-mounted 1U server. This signalling server serves as the dedicated gateway for SIP trunking to carrier. All other applications such as line TPS, VTRK are handled by the enterprise signalling server. The CS1000 in this configuration does not use SIP Redirect or Proxy for Carrier SIP trunking, the SIP Virtual Gateway is simply provisioned with the SBC as the static SIP endpoint of the SIP Trunk. The software and patch line-up for the configuration is as follows: Call Server: 5.50J plus latest DEPLIST
Signaling Server: SSE 5.50.12 plus latest DEPLIST as well as the following additional
patches:
Patch ID Issue Title Notes
MPLR25946 1 PI: SIP Line on CS1000 5.5: Remove MCDN from outgoing INVITE
MPLR23632 1 Null values should be allowed for Public E.164/National or Subscriber fields on Element Manager
MPLR25529 3 PI: SIP: Partial support of DIVERSION MPLR27408 1 PI: SIP: Disable SIP Session Timer on CS1K
MPLR28613 1 Ringback tone and speech path support in slow start CFNA scenarios
Notes:
1. MPLR25529 issue 3 may causes conflicts with MPLR25757 issue 1. Result: MPLR25757 is limited (LTD) patch and should not be in the system/dedicated GW.
2. MPLR27408 issue 1 may causes conflicts with MPLR25993 issue 1. Result: MPLR25993 is not required on the dedicated SIP GW as subscribe is not used. It can be safely removed for COLT.

Dependencies
• CS1000 R5.5 software and implementation of latest patches
• XO Communications providing support to setup, configure, and troubleshoot on carrier switch for the duration of the testing.
• Some specific configuration related to “Diversion header”: PBX Integration” flag should be checked (enable) to have Broadsoft to look through Diversion header.
System > Identity/device Profile Types> XXXXX > Advance Options > PBX Integration Where XXXXX is “Identity/device profile type” configured for Nortel PBX on Broadsoft AS.
Notes: - Additional to the CS1K configuration, there is a scenario where the MCS5100
client/user dialing the PSTN user tandem through CS1K or vise versa, the Music On Hold feature will not work due to Broadsoft/Sonus issue. i.e MCS client A calls PSTN user B, after A put B on hold, B will not be able to hearing music while the call is on hold. In order to get around this, the MCS client is needed to configure in the “Converge Desktop” mode.
- Call branding/announcement will also not work because SIP message ‘183 with SDP’ is sent with attribute “a=sendonly”, Broadsoft/Sonus considers it as hold and put call on hold. The result is PSTN can’t hear branding announcement. There is a workaround but that requires a global configuration change on Broadsoft which is not possible in XO production system

Deployment Options There are a number of possible engineering options to consider when deployed SIP based trunking. The two main considerations that affect hardware and patching are redundancy and Private Networking requirements.
ISP1100 servers are shown in the diagrams below, but COTS and CP-PM servers can be used as well.
Figure 3 below depicts the simplest deployment model, utilizing one or more Signaling Servers to provide Telephone Proxy and SIP GW capability. The single Node configuration would have TPS and SIP GW applications enabled for all servers in the Node. The engineering rules for co-resident TPS and SIP GW would apply. Patching on the Signaling Servers would consist of the current DEPLIST plus the required patches to support XO Communications SIP Trunking. Private Networking to other Nortel products or Nortel Developer Partner products is not supported due the changes the XO Communications specific patches introduce to the SIP signaling.
Figure 3 - Stand-Alone Communication Server and XO Communications Sip Trunking
NN10000-117 Communication Server 1000 Rls 5.5 Configuration Guide: XO Communications SIP Trunking Rev: 1.1
10
In environments that will experience call rates that would exceed the co-resident TPS/SIP GW engineering recommendations, the TPS and SIP GW functionality must be split apart into different Nodes. See Figure 4 as an example where Node A is configured for TPS and is patched with the current DEPLIST. Node B is configured with SIP GW only and is patched with the current DEPLIST plus the patches required to support XO Communications SIP Trunking.
Figure 4 - Stand-Alone Communication Server and XO Communications Sip Trunking for High Call Volume
NN10000-117 Communication Server 1000 Rls 5.5 Configuration Guide: XO Communications SIP Trunking Rev: 1.1
11
The deployment options become more complex when additional Call Servers or SIP Applications are introduced behind the CS1K., such as SIP DECT, OCS, ICP etc.
See Figure 5 for an example utilizing SIP Private Networking to a BCM and a SRG.
Node A is configured for TPS and SIP GW, and patched with the current DEPLIST. Node B is configured with SIP GW only and is patched with the current DEPLIST plus the patches required to support XO Communications SIP Trunking.
Note: A deployment using SIP Public trunking and H.323 Private Networking is not recommended due to limitations that occur when translating between the 2 protocols.
