WEB SITEOF THE MONTH

www.sharingbackyards.com "Sharing Backyards" is an initiative ofthe Lifecycles Project Society inVictoria, BC, but is it gaining popularity on aninternational scale. They use a specialized mapping program to help peoplewho don't have gardening space connect with people whohave extra space. Have a look.

Wash them in a vinegar solution !

A friend of mine shared this tip with me a whileago, and it really, really works. When you getyour berries home, prepare a mixture of one partvinegar (white or apple cider probably workbest) and ten parts water. Dump the berries intothe mixture and swirl around. Drain and rinse ifyou want (though the mixture is so diluted thatyou should not taste the vinegar) and pop in thefridge.

The vinegar kills any mould spores and otherbacteria that might be on the surface of the fruit, and voila! Raspberries will last a week or more, and strawberries can go almost two weekswithout getting mouldy and soft. So go forthand stock up on those pricey little gems, knowing they'll stay fresh as long as it takes youto eat them.
