President's Message Reporting Timelines The CTA spoke with the District about the impending shutdown of MyEd from June 5 to June 8. The CTA outlined its concerns that this weekend would thus be lost for teachers to work on reports and that many at elementary and middle were due as early as the 12th. The CTA asked if the employer could go to the Ministry and ask them to put it off, as happened previously, around Spring Break. The employer responded that the Ministry was really keen to do the shutdown, out of fear the systems would not be working well for the end of the year report. The CTA responded with an ask to, thus, be flexible on the deadlines around submission of the reports. The employer committed to messaging that out to Principals at their meeting which took place this week. We remain concerned if this flexibility is not being offered and would like to hear about it. Post and Fill Teachers in SD43 are working through application processes that are slightly different this year. More rounds of postings, faster turnaround between rounds and the Corona-inspired, socially- distant interview. There are a fair number of Priority One teachers that need positions so, it may be possible in some popular jobs/sites that P2s don’t get interviews. We watch Post and Fill closely for any bias or procedural problems. We invite anyone concerned with Post and Fill matters to bring them to us. CTA Officers Roaming and CTA Phone Lines Since we can’t bring everyone for a large meeting, CTA officers are out and about in schools right now. We had previously limited site visits to just the President for the period leading up to this return, out of concerns to limit the size of the bubbles we all have around us. With teachers back in buildings as per the PHO’s order, the rest of the team is making their way around, now. If you’d like to hear or see one of us, please ask for us to come by. We can’t realistically, with the workload here, commit to getting to every site but, we are happy to take requests. The phone lines will also be open again at the CTA starting Monday, June 8. We have had limited in-site administrative support through the last 7 weeks and we are transitioning office staff back to work this week.
