As well as being a watering hole, the village pub is the heartbeat of the community and a focal point for villagers. It is two years this October that I took control of yours. I would like to take this opportunity to thank those of you who have supported The White Lion during this time. Your encouragement and support has been brilliant and without your loyalty and commitment we would not still be trading. The next couple of years are sure to be a testing time as the previous two have been and I’m sure I will have many more sleepless nights as well as enjoyable evenings at the helm! With pubs shutting on a daily basis it is imperative that we don’t allow ours to be one of them. You can have an impact by supporting our forthcoming events. From October our menu will be changing to a more winter feel. Also we will be serving food on Sunday and Monday until 8.30pm with special offers available. THE BELGRAVE VILLAGE HALL Apart from the decorating of the new toilets the recent work on the village hall has been completed. Our thanks to Peter Begley who, having demolished the original porch,has now built us a splendid new one!! (Yellow paint to be removed!) The new entrance to the hall is now a visual asset to Church Street and can be used by everyone including those with mobility problems who will no longer have to take the 'scenic route' via the boiler and the oil tank! Thank you to those organisations who continued to use the hall during the re-building and our apologies for when it inevitably caused some inconvenience. The hall has recently been given a 'Shires Energy Grant' which will provide 50% of the cost of a new central heating boiler- we are hoping that this can be installed before the onset of winter. Although 'dog waste' bins have been installed by the Parish Council inconsiderate dog walkers are still letting their dogs foul the village hall car park where it can be taken directly into the hall kitchen on peoples’ shoes. Surely it is not that difficult to scoop it up, deposit it in the bin or take it home? The Lunch Alfresco was a great success, we were fortunate in having a sunny, if somewhat chilly day, for those hosts who entertained their guests outside. Our thanks to all who participated especially the hosts. Your support has raised around £500 which will be used towards the purchase of a new boiler.

Editorial Comment Gary Houston’s letter to us, the residents of North Kilworth, is not only a celebration of his two years as landlord of The White Lion, but also a stark reminder of difficult times faced by the licensed trade, particularly in rural areas, more of that later. Gary clearly wants to thank those who have supported him with both their custom and encouragement. His appreciation is genuine and heartfelt. We as a community should also thank Gary and his staff for their sterling efforts in ensuring that our village pub provides a welcoming and friendly environment and supplies a more than adequate variety of drinks, excellent cuisine and entertainment. There has been a large financial investment towards the future success of The Lion and we should all appreciate the improvements that have been made since Gary took over two years ago. You have settled so well into our small community, Gary, and we hope that you are here for many years. All of us share a responsibility to ensure that is the case. Gary states correctly that pubs are closing on a daily basis and none of us want to see The Lion suffering the same fate. IT IS OUR ONLY PUB! Recently whilst chatting to him, he was remarkably transparent with regard to the sheer economic hardships pubs face nowadays, especially tenancies, and The Lion is no different. Breweries have to shoulder major responsibility for this. Their profits seem unaffected and yet they charge ever increasing rents to hard pressed tenants whilst the price of drinks keeps increasing for loyal customers, courtesy some may say of their greed, coupled with government easy picking tax increases virtually every budget. What action will the breweries take when there are no tenant pubs to collect rent from? Supermarkets of course! No bother that a British way of life may disappear forever. Profits maintained, shareholders happy! Of course, these are difficult financial times for all of us as Messrs Cameron and Clegg keep reminding us! That said we could all increase the village support for our pub, whether visiting for drinks, a meal, or an event for the very first time; more frequently if only an occasional patron, or even a regular attendee. It was clear to me that Gary both loves running the pub, sleepless nights and all, and the village itself. So let’s support him and through this ensure that The Lion remains an integral part of village life, with Gary at the helm for as long as he wants the situation to continue. CHEERS!

Also whilst walking home from the White lion [sober] on Friday night another Audi thought it was at home and drove all the way down Station road on the wrong side of the double white lines. Tina showed us how to make two excellent chicken dishes; see the recipe section, and a delicious soup. She also gave us tips on tasting food during preparation, amongst other tips. And, we got to taste the food Tina had cooked and cake that she had made earlier. Thank-you Tina. Five members had a real treat at the Group Meeting where we heard ’Confessions of a Pantomime Dame’. The Dame was hilarious. A real tonic. Many thanks to Theddingworth WI. How do they manage to put on such a good meeting with so few members!! Our next meeting will be on Thursday October 21st when Alison Chapman will be telling us about the History of Kilworth House Theatre. 7.30pm in the Village hall. News from your local School Every month pupils contribute to the NK News about St Andrew’s Primary School. Their desire is to let you know about the School’s news and activities and to invite you to come and visit us and see what they do. This month they wanted to tell you what their their parents and Ofsted think of their school. In the Summer term of 2010 the Parent’s questionnaire contained some of the following comments o School has a good link with the village. o Before & after school clubs are great. NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH CRIMESTOPPERS 0800 555111 - A male was dealt with for the possession of cannabis when the vehicle he was traveling in was stopped and searched by patrolling police officers on the A4304 in North Kilworth on Monday 20th September. -A SATNAV, an Ipod and a digital camera left on display inside a car parked on Church Street in Husbands Bosworth were stolen overnight on Sunday19th Sept. - Detectives investigating 2 aggravated burglaries in the MH area are appealing for public help. The first incident took place just after 6pm on Thurs. Sept 9 in the Lut’rworth Rd area of Arnesby. Three men forced their way into a house, threatened the occupant and stole cash. The victim was not hurt. The second took place between 7.15pm and 8pm on Tues Sept14 in the Gibbit Lane area, Shawell. Again 3 men forced their way in to a house and threatened the occupant before stealing cash. The victim received minor injuries during this incident. Were you in either of these areas on the dates mentioned, did you see anyone acting suspiciously? Bruce’s Bike Ride Having agreed at short notice to put my “advert” into the Kilworth News for my forthcoming 1600 mile cycle relay round England and Scotland, the Editor asked I provide an article once the ride was completed. I agreed, caveating it with “only if I survived”. I did and here it is. 6 members of the RAF’s recruiting and selection organisation based at Cranwell in Lincolnshire, aimed to cycle to each of the 9 RAF-administered Careers Offices located around England and the ones in Edinburgh and Aberdeen in just 6 days. A tall order for a short bloke like me, but as it was for charity, and Help for Heroes is such a valid cause, I thought I would give it a go. Realising that my off road bike (like the one that Peter Jones et al had their adventures in Wales on!) was not suited to the relentless miles of tarmac A roads that the route followed, Mark and Emma Fletcher very kindly lent me an excellent road bike. Having not ridden a racing bike for 35 years, it was a huge difference to my own bike. A Ferrari compared to a Land Rover. Still after spine jarring familiarisation, we set off from Cranwell at 6.00 am on 1 Sept. Split into 2 teams of 3 cyclists plus a support vehicle each, we covered approximately 300 miles each day, with each team riding half the daily distance in a leap frog pattern. I won’t bore you with the finer details, but suffice to say the days started early, striking camp, (yes, we were in tents) and then travelling in the support van or cycling for around 12 hours each day. The route saw my team through Luton, High Wycombe, Henley on Thames, Reading and Andover on the first day having started our cycling from Cambridge. The following 5 days passed in a blur, taking in the delights, or not, of Dartmoor, Bristol, Taunton, Perth, Aberdeen, Darlington and Hull, including the 3 miles over the Humber Bridge in a gale, to name but a few. We finished back at Cranwell on time on the afternoon of the 6th Sep. Notable events were few compared to the Jones mountain bike tour of Wales that happened over the same period, but broken cycles being repaired in Exeter High St and meeting some dubious owners of camp sites (no wonder they were cheap!) stick out in my mind. Repairing or fettling bikes by torch light was a challenge, as was navigating through city centres during rush hours. My abiding memory though is of 38 tonne lorries whizzing past my ear mile after mile. My admiration goes out to anyone who has to, or chooses to, ride on the A and B roads of this island. Their life expectancy is shorter than most. Having completed the ride, survived and slept well, it was time to hand my bike back to its rightful owners. Mark and Emma, thanks again, couldn’t have done it without your generous loan, but I don’t want to see the bike again! My thanks to everyone who so generously sponsored me, I raised over £500 pounds, The Kilworth Challenge also contributed and the team total was over £8000, although money is still coming in as I write. ……now, where did I leave my mountain bike? Whilst on the subject of bike rides: Do get Pete Jones to recount the story of the Sunday Morning Cyclist’s Tour of Wales and of his visit to a Welsh A&E department!! See x-ray below.

Bowls Club News The season ended in late September with the conclusion of the Club competitions with several winners and runners up. The club has had another successful season in inter club competition, retaining the two charity cups, namely the Hospital and Pearson cups, against West Haddon, South Kilworth, Cold Ashby, Wycliffe and Lutterworth. This year, some £400.00 was raised for a gift to a local charity chosen by the winning Club. Over the past years, several thousand pounds have been raised and donated. The Sunday games played on three different grounds are arranged by Chris Knight. The Club also retained the Entwisle trophy which is a double header against South Kilworth. The match goes back many years and a copy of the original letter from the Entwisle donor is held in the Clubhouse. Yes, this is the same benefactor who donated the land on which the village hall is built. In the Market Harborough league we entered a second team who duly won the third division under captain Mark Wilkes. The first team won the first division by the skin of their teeth. The presentation evening has been arranged for Saturday 13th November at the Sports Club and all members are urged to attend. The AGM will take place on the following Wednesday 17th when there will be a special motion to advance the subscription date to assist the Secretary and Treasurer. Following the AGM there will be another report recording the office bearers and any other matters of interest.

Notes from the Parish Council held on 121st September in the Belgrave Village Hall Prior to the meeting a presentation was made by Richard Windley, the Leicestershire and Rutland Rural Housing Enabler assisted by Raj Patel from HDC, highlighting the possibilities of providing affordable housing within the village. Mr Windley offered to undertake a survey to establish if a need existed within the village at no cost to the Parish Council. The report would be available after evaluation of the survey in the New Year. The Parish Council agreed that a full village survey should be undertaken in partnership with a sub group of the Parish Council The minutes of the Meeting held on 10th August 2010 were signed. MATTERS ARISING: Speed Cameras: A question was raised regarding the Parish Council’s views on the possible partnership with Husbands Bosworth Parish Councils recent offer for the use of the speed recording device which they had funds to purchase. It was noted that at a previous meeting a view had been taken that the money needed for brackets could be spent in other ways. It was agreed that Councillor Hardwick would investigate if future funding was available for similar devices and for her to report back to the next meeting. In the meantime the Clerk would try to establish fromHusbands Bosworth over what period they would consent to the loan of the equipment. A parishioner agreed to act as an analyst if the Parish Council was able to hire the equipment from Husbands Bosworth. Type of windows at the new development within Church Street was still unresolved as the developer had not yet submitted samples to HDC for approval. The question of the height of the building could not be pursued as no height was stipulated in the original planning consent. Development at Ivy House: Cllr Jones indicated that the surfacing to the entrance would be in a sympathetic material in accordance with the intentions contained within the Parish Plan. The alternative entrance mentioned at the last meeting was not considered to be a practical alternative. The “drove road” would remain unchanged apart from the entrance onto Back Street. It was agreed that some form of bulb planting should be undertaken. Non replies from Clive Howe. Graham Hart agreed to take the matter up with Clive Howe. The Clerk was requested to email him highlighting the areas of concern. PLANNING 09/00754/AGR: Erection of agricultural building for an egg packing store: Evergreen Field Farm Pincet Lane. Letters were available from HD Council’s Enforcement Team which indicated that unless a retrospective planning application was received they would serve notice that they would take legal action against the owners. He indicated that in the event of noncompliance the notice would be served in early October. 10/00762/VAC: Removal of condition 3 to allow installation of gates and variation of condition 7 to read 'ten pitches: Quarry Farm Stables Lutterworth Road. H.D.Council had granted permission to vary condition 3 to allow the installation of electric gates but refused to vary condition 7 on the grounds that the proposal would result in an unacceptable increase in slow moving traffic onto or off a class1 road where traffic speeds are generally high. 0/01109/FUL: Erection of two storey side, first floor side and single storey rear extensions: The Close Hawthorne Road. The Parish Council supports the application but would welcome the use of wooden garage doors instead of the steel ones proposed. The yew trees appear to be poor specimens. And the cypress trees are no loss. 10/01179/FUL: Erection stables: Land off Green Lane. The Parish Council supports the application but recommended that the entrance gate to Green Lane should be set back to allow vehicles to stand off the road whilst opening the gates. 10/01168/TCA: Works to trees: Bushloe Barn 9 High Street North Kilworth. 10/01123/TCA: Works to trees: The Close Hawthorne Road North Kilworth 10/01051/TCA: Felling of trees: Nether Hall 5 Church Street North Kilworth. 10/01196/TCA: Works to tree: The Pines 12 Cranmer Lane North Kilworth. The Parish Council offered no comments on the above applications for work to trees in conservation area The Clerk was requested to contact HDC regarding the non-availability of on line plans for the development at Shoulder of Mutton. Concern was raised regarding the provision of off street parking. It was agreed to ask Garden Wall to trim the overhanging tree. Councillor Jones agreed to contact the owners regarding a possible replacement of a may tree that was dying. LOCAL ISSUES -Peter Hoskins from Leicestershire County Council outlined the County Council’s proposals for effecting energy saving proposals in respect of street lighting. Plans were passed around which indicated which street lights which would be turned off at 24.00 and switched back on at 05.30 together with those that would remain on. He indicated that there would be a consultation period in which proposals could be considered for individual lights to remain on. Providing that there were no difficulties it was anticipated that the revised times would be implemented by late December 2010. Notification would be indicated by temporary signs one week before implementation. A survey had been made to assess the highway safety risk and the results have been incorporated in the proposals. In answer to questions he indicated that county wide the costs would amount to some £3.1M but the payback period was 3 years. The rationale behind the proposals was to enable the County Council to trade in carbon certificates as opposed to having to purchase them from third parties. -The Parish Council noted that “Smartwater” signs had been erected. -There had been little response to the proposal to provide outside exercise equipment for the over 50's. In view of the lack of interest it was agreed not to proceed any further with the proposal. -The Clerk was thanked by a member of the public for the effort involved regarding outstanding items that were the responsibility of the County Council. The works had been completed speedily to the satisfaction of the parishioner. The Clerk commended the County Council’s web site fault reporting system to the meeting as he had used it on several occasions with excellent results. A grant of some £700/800 was available from the Commonwealth War Grave Commission for the cleaning and repair of the War Memorial on the Green. A member of the public indicated that she may be able to assist as she had contacts within the Commission. The possibility of sponsorship was considered and CllrJones agreed to follow this up.

Flow to the small Washpit was discussed and it was decided to use a water diviner to try to sort out the on-going problems. Maintenance Works: Stoney Track: It was noted that the track had recently been surfaced. Graham Hart agreed to establish if the work had been carried out by the County Council. Rose Beds Pincet Lane: Garden Wall reported that the roses are not doing very well, especially the ones in the small bed. It was agreed that Garden Wall would liaise with Rosemary Gandy to replant them with sturdier roses, in both beds. The Parish Council agreed to the use of bedding plants for one year. Dog Bin by Village Hall: It was agreed that the dog bin would be resited on the telegraph pole adjacent to the entrance to the new development on Church Street. Garden Wall to effect change. Dog Fouling: It was agreed that an article be placed in the North Kilworth Newsletter reminding dog owners that not clearing up after their dogs was an offence and subject of an on the spot fine of £60. A suggestion was made that any known offenders would be named and shamed and this will be considered. The Parish Council does not condone the fouling of areas that are maintained as it poses a danger to the person carrying out the work. It was agreed that the Parish Council would provide a wreath for the Annual Remembrance Day Service at the War Memorial. Anne Hampson indicated that she wished to relinquish her role as Heritage and Archaeology Warden. It was agreed that a note to this effect would be placed in the North Kilworth Newsletter asking for a volunteer, She intimated that she would still carry on as Tree Warden. ALL WEATHER PLAY AREA A report on the findings of the playground Inspection would be made at a later date. AOB Peter Morgan thanked the Parish Council, District Councillor and Country Councillor for their support in the applications for grants to improve the Village Hall. He announced that the grant application for the replacement had been successful and that work would commence soon. It was agreed that the old screens stored in the wooden shed would be disposed of. Mention was made of the Tithe Map. It was agreed that when the internal works to the Village Hall had been completed a replica would be hung. It was also agreed that the Parish Council would pay for framing of some of original drawings of the Village Hall. DATES OF NEXT MEETINGS The Clerk was requested to look onto the possibility of convening the meetings in October on Wednesdays. If this was the case then the Church Hall would have to be used as the Village Hall is booked. The next meeting would still be on Tuesday 12th October in the Village Hall as planned. KILWORTH HOUSE THEATRE You may think it is rather early to have Christmas cards in the shops, but you will be more shocked to find out that we are talking about tickets for Kilworth House Theatre June 2011! As in previous years we have been able to make a corporate booking prior to tickets being put on sale. I have provisionally booked 100 tickets from row E upwards in the centre aisle with Kilworth House for next years production of 'Pirates of Penzance' on Sat 25th June 8.00pm. Tickets are £28 each No payment or firm commitment will be needed until the end of January but I do need to give Kilworth House an idea of numbers by the end of November. Please could you e mail me before the end of November with your ticket numbers. Whilst we will be able to get more tickets after this initial allocation, I cannot guarantee where these will be. The tickets will therefore be allocated on a 'first come first served basis' As usual any money from complimentary tickets will be donated to the Village Hall. Love, love, love...dum dumdy dum... Those readers who lived through the Beatles era will be singing along – and may be haunted by the tune all day! Sorry... But it’s not a bad theme, love. It - not money - is what makes the world go around. Without it we would be unable to feel compassion or to receive kindness, to empathise with our fellow human beings, or give children stable families and loving parents. Christians believe that God is the essence of love, and that he looks upon us as his children, from generation to generation. Therefore we should look upon each other as brothers and sisters. Or grandparents and grandchildren. My head runs on that theme recently. I am delighted to say that my son and his wife had a daughter, Hannah, last month, thanks be to God. How things change when a new life arrives in the world. Parents well know that the tiny newcomer becomes the centre of the world, and all else is put on hold! But at any stage a new life brings an enormous alteration, not only in the practical aspects of life, but in the emotional ones too. Becoming a grandparent has made me aware of another level of love, of which I had been only theoretically aware before, and again of how unconditional it is. I have been looking out pictures of my son as baby and child so that my daughter in law can see if her baby looks like her daddy. Going through them, and adapting our family tree, has brought home to me again how families develop, and wax and wane in some generations. One of my great-great grandmothers had 17 children! Only five of them grew up, though. Such was the way of childhood then, and each of those losses must have been as terrible as the first. We are lucky to live now, I think. Isn’t it amazing how much love is born with each child, before we ‘know’ him or her? And how our love for our other children is not diminished by our love for the newcomer? That inexhaustible supply continues as the generations move on. We humans put a huge investment of love and commitment into our children, which is renewed in our grandchildren and, my mother tells me, in our great grandchildren. God understands that, and through our own experience of loving through our families, we can begin to understand the infinity of God’s love for us. The mercy of God endures from generation to generation, as Mary said when she knew she was to be mother to the son of God. Her song of praise and prayer, called the Magnificat and found in Luke 1 v46, emphasises this very feature, and exalts the inheritance of God’s love that she claims for herself and her descendants; ‘as he promised to our forefathers, Abraham and his seed for ever.’ That love is ours, too. For ever. Love, love, love, dum dumdy dum… Jane Kennedy.

Message from The Revd Emma Davies I have recently been licensed as Team Vicar in the Avon Swift Benefice and am beginning to find my feet in this lovely area of the world. I am living in the vicarage in Gilmorton with my husband, John, and our two boys, Tim (12) and Ben (10). John is a part-time instrumental music teacher and the boys are settling well into local schools. We have experienced a very warm welcome from everyone we have encountered so far (thank you!) and look forward to getting to know lots more people in due course. Before moving to Gilmorton, we spent 3 years in Market Harborough, and before I was ordained we lived for 12 years in Bottesford in the Vale of Belvoir. We are delighted to be living in the countryside again. John and Tim are keen bellringers, and we enjoy singing as well as most kinds of music. I very much look forward to ministering in the different communities which make up the Avon Swift Benefice, alongside Canon Ken Baker, Revd Jane Kennedy and the many lay folk who contribute so richly to church life. After a gap of around 10 years this village event was successfully resurrected on Sunday September 19th amidst perfect weather and enthusiastic participants. The format is similar to the main Challenge event and as such family based teams were required, sometimes reluctantly, to negotiate a course of around 4 miles with 11 challenges. These ranged from children screaming round (literally) an improvised race track on Stoney in go-karts, being pushed along by the adults ever “encouraging” them to master the art of steering, through to the dreaded assault course at Crow Spinney- mud baths became the order of the day! The event concluded with a Bruce barbecue on the Sports Field in the afternoon, followed by the presentation ceremony in the club. All the competitors received a commemorative medal and a Challenge T-shirt. The winners were The Incredibles led by Nick Herring with team members Huw, Millie and Jo Phillips plus James Webb. Congratulations to them all. Everyone involved had a superb time and Mick Faulkner who organised the go-kart challenge said that the laughter from the children as they “negotiated” the track will live with him for many a day. Of course, a big thanks must be passed to the Challenge committee comprising of Colin Clarke, Mick Faulkner, Mike Lawrence, Chris Mitchell, Manfred Morris, Bruce Phillips and Paul Whitehead for putting together such a brilliant event and we all hope to see it return in 2011. . The committee themselves wish to thank individuals who assisted in some way towards the success of the day. Bitteswell Egg Farm provided the eggs for the teams to splatter themselves with! Then there were landowners such as Mark Atkinson at Mill Farm and also Neil Logue who agreed to the use of Crow Spinney. Liz and Geoff Rogers did a sterling job by not only marshalling but also obtaining milk crates for the event-don’t ask why! Duncan Moss managed to marshal and help Bruce with the barbecue, but on top of that he has agreed to join the Challenge organisers next year. Hope he knows what he’s let himself in for and that he’s a good wine drinker! There were others who marshalled who initially turned up at a challenge as interested observers and found themselves lumbered, though very happily it must be said, so thanks to them. Thanks also to Gogsy and the club for the use of the facilities and the service. Most of all, though, thanks must go to the teams that participated including adults who didn’t always wish to get dirty, though some of the kids shied away from that, and team supporters, many of whom completed the course supporting their teams to the full. Sara Dainton provided The News with photographs of the event. We can’t publish them all here but you can see the rest on the village website northkilworth.com, so thanks to her. The committee is keen to emphasise to other villages that if the advertising of the event seemed to be centred on North Kilworth, it certainly wasn’t meant to give that impression. So well done to all involved and see you all next year-hopefully!

Huge savings bid if councils share services A proposal to merge a key council service area with two other councils will make “significant financial savings” if it is agreed by councillors. HDCl’s executive committee will meet next week to discuss whether to approve sharing its revenues and benefits service with Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council and North West Leicestershire District Council.The move would save the three councils nearly £2 million over six years.

The annual Harborough By The Sea event, held in The Square in Market Harborough last month, was attended by hundreds of children and their families, and took place – for the first time – over two days.Now, the organisers are devising ways to make the event even better – with rumours that the next year’s event could be held over three days. They are calling on entertainers, artists, businesses, volunteers, sponsors and others to get in touch if they are interested in taking part next summer.

If you say ‘Hello’ to Meena she could teach you how to say hello in Kutchi, because that is her native tongue. I can’t write it in Kutchi because it’s a spoken language, not written. (See what you get in the NK News!) Andy and Meena live in Back Street, in Belgrave Cottage, which was converted from three near derelict cottages by John and Audrey Havercroft – who have just moved into Thorlea House, which is next door [and which, incidentally, was our first home in NK]. John and Audrey get everywhere! They were mentioned in Say Hello to Stuart Dainton, (they are his in laws) They left Belgrave Cottage over 20 years ago to move to Burton, and then France before finishing up next door to where they started in NK – the other side of the fence to Andy and Meena. Back to Meena. She was born in India, and lived in Mumbai (formerly Bombay) until she was 7, when the family moved to the UK. Meena took a law degree at Coventry, came to Leicester in 1982 and has been a qualified solicitor for 16 years. Andy also studied law, but chose not to work in it. Instead he chose to practise drinking in the ale houses of Leicester with a group of young trainee solicitors, and that’s where he met Meena in 1986. They were married twice 21 years ago (a church wedding and an Indian wedding), and lived in Lutterworth for 12 years before moving to NK in 2000. Meena’s background explains her love of cooking, their mutual love of curries, chillies, and spices, and Andy’s generous frame. Born in Atherstone, Andy was put off law by Dickensian lawyers when he started to train, and moved into computers 30 years ago - writing programmes for a software house using an IBM computer. In 1987 he became self employed and in the past 23 years has worked as a systems analyst / programmer for the likes of Rank Hovis Mcdougall, Comet, Viking Direct and the Co-op. When he was a few curries and 5 stone lighter he played rugby for Atherstone and Stoneygate as a full back - until he was 42. He has a golf handicap of 16, having been a member of Kirby Muxloe golf club for 15 years. Not many people know that his family owned a coach company and he had a PSV licence for 20 years, so he drove people to Blackpool and other tourist hot spots. He’s a member of a quiz team in The Wheel Inn at Oadby; so beer keeps raising it’s frothy head because he loves real ale and hates bad beer. Andy is now 55, and still prefers playing to watching. He looks forward to working less, playing more golf, skiing more often and spending more time in the garden. Meena and Andy have lots of friends in Leicestershire, but they would like to expand their social life in NK. Meena never quite gets round to going to WI I’m sure she could entertain the ladies (and us men if we were to be invited) with tales of the Indian caste system that shaped her early years, or with her insight into curry. Andy is much easier – invite him down the pub instead of letting him slip quietly into Belgrave Cottage. Millennium Green The M.Green Trustees are looking for a new Treasurer. The Millennium Green is a fantastic “green” space within the village. It is not a managed garden, but a designated Nature Reserve and a space that everyone in the village can enjoy. However, there are inevitably maintenance costs, in order to keep the Nature Reserve highly accessible, and the management of the space is the role of the Trustees.
