Doctor of Science in Civil Security Leadership, Management and Policy The Executive Doctor of Science (D.Sc.) degree prepares students to advance to executive-level security positions in government, business or education, as well as for professional security teaching positions at colleges and universities. The Program provides broad coverage of the major aspects of national, corporate and cyber security, and includes a rigorous exploration of research methods and critical issues affecting: current issues, data analysis, emergency operations and planning, executive communication, policy and budget. Within the curriculum and based on the minimum entry requirements of four years experience, within the appropriate security domain(s), students are prepared to apply and sit for the examination leading to board certification as a Certified Protection Professional (CPP™). This scholar-practitioner degree features a strong research/ analytical component that is ultimately demonstrated by a successful dissertation. NJCU is proud to have established the FIRST Doctorate of Science in Civil Security Leadership, Management and Policy in the United States.

Program Highlights

Convenient for Working Professionals

Each July, a Learning Community (LC) of 15 to 20 doctoral students enter the three-year program.

The program features a two-week summer residency and four weekends during the academic year on campus.

Expert Faculty

All full-time and affiliate professors hold the appropriate doctoral degrees, professional certification(s) and a minimum of 15 years of professional security experience. NJCU’s designation as a National Center of Academic Excellence by the National Security Agency makes security professionals participating in the D.Sc. degree program eligible for various research projects, grants and scholarships.

Admissions Requirements

Complete applications must be received by April 15 and include:

• Master’s degree conferred by an accredited institution

• CGPA of 3.50 or higher during graduate study

• Four years of relevant work experience

• Successful completion of any of the standardized graduate-level student assessment tests

• Two letters of recommendation

• Letter of interest to include proposed dissertation topic

• Official transcripts

• Meet all of the minimum requirements of the University Admissions Office

Note:An interview may be required at the discretion of the Admissions Committee.

International students need official scores of TOEFL, including the Test of Written English.
