G01B 11/24 52) Us. 1 . ............................................................ ..356/601 (57) ABSTRACT A canning apparatus includes a support frame and a laser scanner mounted to the frame. ve bar closed loop spherical linkage supports a clamping device for retaining a n object. The linkage moves the object through a scanning beam about a spherical surface to facilitate scanning of curved objects. The linkage is mounted on a n arm rotatably mounted o the frame and the clamping device is rotatably mounted o the linkage t o provide four degrees of freedom. Encoders and motors drive the linkage t o provide accurate positioning and providing for digitizing the scanned object. 100 1 J L
