NEUROLOGYCLINIC

HEALTH CARE

project : a pediatric neurol-

ogy clinic.

patients : young people who

are under 18 years old. They

have problems with their

brain. Problems affect their

memory, movement, and basic

functions.

Neurology: a specialty fo-

cused on disorders of the

nervous system.

design goal: to create a con-

nection between children

and the nervous system. In-

stead of focusing on the

non-working part of the

children’s nervous system, I

decided to both mimic and

the abstract the nucleus

and axon of the nervous sys-

tem to create 3 dimensional

forms that are playful, evoc-

ative and dramatic. 33

HEALTH CARE

The testing area is on the east side of the wall

with magnetic and radio frequency shielding.

Physician’s offices, exam rooms and waiting area

are next to the parking and facing north.

The flip chair is outside of the diagnosed rooms

for waiting and break.

HEALTH CARE

The main circulation of the clinic is covered by Barrisol ceiling with floating glass structures; its high contrast directs

people. The center section of the ceiling comes down and connects with white fiberglass seats. Children will feel protect-

ed in a round shape. The carpet color goes up the wall, acts as mid-tone to enhance the boundary line between ceiling and

walls, as well as make the curving structures stand out.

The general space has soft and warm ambient

light which creates subtle light shadows. There

are signs at each corner and a grab bar that goes

around the space.

Page 8: Niya 's Work Samples

The furniture collection references the playful quality, and some pieces

have heavier shapes to grounds the floor, so the space won’t flow away.

I have carpet in public space and offices. Cork floor in exam rooms and

rubber floor in all testing area and restrooms.

SPEAK OUT

Concept:

Changable Connectable Justifiable

Client:

This is an office design for the Friends

of the Earth. It is a globlal non-profit

organization. They fight the govern-

ment by communication, analyzing, and

publication. They connect people to

make policy changeable, in order to-

fight to end dirty source, manke pol-

luters pay for their pollution and so

on.

The main idea of this office design is

to encourage people speak out and talk

freely. I created an open and spacious

space with green materials.

Work stations are close to the reception area, because i want all staffs to participate in their visitors discussions, not just sit infront of their desk topS all day long. They also have three communication areaS between work sta-tions and PRIVATE offices.

DIFFERENT TYPE OF RECYCLED NEWSPAPER WALL-COVERING REMIND PEOPLE TO BE ECO-FRIENDLY AND EMPHASIZE THE POWER OF WORDS.
