TrestleBoard Making Good Men Better Since 1925
Nitram Lodge Stated Communications are held on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays.
Called Communications are held on the 1st, 3rd and 5th Thursdays.
Chartered April 23, 1925
Mark your calendars for our Third Annual Lodge Barbeque
The Stewards’ Bash June 29th 11am—4pm
Requested Donation: $10
Bring your family and friends!
( Don’t forget your appetite because we don’t send people home hungry )
This summer celebration and barbeque has become a significant event and does help us operate our
lodge as we have become accustomed. For the many members and their family and friends that have
so enjoyed the Annual George Washington’s Day Fish Fry in February - this June barbeque is similar
in function and gives us a chance to meet with each other as fraternity and family before we head off
on our vacations and other summer activities. Ribs, Pulled Pork, Chicken & Dogs with all the extras.
What this year’s Project entails:
Digitally archiving and then relocating
the portraits of our 89 Past Masters to
the North wall of the Lodge Room, with
provision for many more years.
Repainting the Social Hall
Completing the red oak wainscoting
begun by W Dan Barto in 2008.
Replacing the old vinyl tile in the bath-
rooms with ceramic tile that will be
easier to clean, replacing the vanities
and mirrors, repainting the walls and
trim and replacing the wall decor to
make these rooms more attractive and
functional.
Rearranging the artwork and other
hangings on the walls of the social hall
to make the décor more attractive and
informative to the craft, our appendant
bodies, and to our guests.
The Master’s Project has begun!
The work of this project is being
accomplished principally by the
craft. As much as possible, we
will include appropriate food and
beverages to those who are labor-
ing, or who choose to assist in
other ways, including just social-
izing so that the work is so much
easier because their brothers ap-
preciate the companionship.
Special gratitude
to our brother and
past master, W
Tony Griffon, for
repairing and
properly restoring
some of our art-
work.

tion, by Nitram Lodge 188, F&AM, St. Petersburg, Florida. Chuck Bailey, Editor

Sickness and Distress: Several of our Brothers and Widows are in need of our prayers to the GAOTU for
themselves or their families. Please keep them in your prayers, including Bro.
Tommy Brown and WDave Palmer, Bro. Greg Williamson and his wife, Krista.
Also, Bro. Tony Sauls tore a muscle in his calf while pulling a fire hose, so he’s
limited for another couple months.
Let’s remember also RW Jim Ford, our SGW, as he recovers from the
loss of his wife, Joy, who passed to the celestial lodge in May.
Deaths: Bro. David J. Barr, PM
My Brothers,
From my perspective we are having a great year. The craft is growing. We have brothers coming to
visit from other lodges and we are also supporting the other lodges and organizations. We recently
received a very nice comment from the Ladies of the Oriental Shrine (LOS) and I am very thankful
for the wonderful feedback to our efforts. We have met with some minor adversity thus far and I
hope we can continue to work through differences as they arise. Our projects have gotten off to a slow start due to
timing of presentations to the craft. Changes in methods have also brought challenges, but it makes us stronger and
wiser. You may have noticed some small changes, but rest assured the bigger ones are coming.
Please come join in the fun, work beside one another and there will be great benefits realized. I urge each of our new
brothers in the pipeline to get in and work with the Masters. Get to know each one and you will soon learn what
great men abide in the craft.
Our schedules these days are pushed to the limit of endurance. Mine has me running all week. But somehow I am
able to get through it. Brothers, involve your wives or significant others. It is more fun and more family oriented
that way. They might even meet some new friends that way. To all who attended Grand Lodge this year – Bravo
Brothers!! We made a fine showing and distinguished ourselves and our Lodge.

Let each of us take time to welcome those new to our Lodge, get to know them and make them feel welcome
as Brothers. Who knows, perhaps one of these new brothers will be the one who gives you nourishment,
refreshment or joy at some future period.
St. Petersburg Chapter has completed its relocation to Elmer O Smith Lodge #307 in Pinellas Park.
Two of the former members have reactivated their membership, and two new members have already
been initiated. The new Advisory Council has been appointed, and the final stages of the transition are
currently being executed!
St Petersburg Chapter meets on the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays at 7:00 pm. All meetings are casual at this time, until we can
complete reorganization and train the new corps of Members and Advisors in their DeMolay proficiencies, obliga-
tions and operations. The young men have united with the Job's Daughters of Bethel #9, who also meet at Elmer O
Smith #307, and together, they have planned several joint fun events throughout the summer months!
It is truly an exciting time to be associated with DeMolay!

A thought-provoking question for each Mason who has taken upon himself the solemn and binding obligation
Are you doing for yourself and others in your life what is necessary such that other members of the Human Family see Light in
you and, by so doing, form such an impression of what Masonry is that they, too, may choose to knock on the door to our Lodge?
Brothers: You may cut these tickets out and bring them to the door where you may make your requested donation. If you wish to pre-pay, send your BBQ donation to the Secretary and print your name on the back of the tickets.
As always, additional tickets will be available at the door.

Brothers,
This month brings us on of the most important dates in the Masonic calendar. June 24th is the Nativity
of St. John the Baptist, or St. John the Baptist’s Day. The Grand Lodge of England was formed on
that day in 1717, and Anderson’s Constitutions were adopted there four years later on the same day in
1721. Albert Mackey’s Encyclopedia of Freemasonry tells us that at one time St. John the Baptist was
the only one to whom lodges were dedicated, with St. John the Evangelist being added after the 16th century.
We should all remember from the Entered Apprentice lecture that the two perpendicular parallel lines tangential to the
point within the circle represent the two Saints John. What lesson can we take from them? From the same lecture, we
are told that in the attainment of Masonic knowledge it is hoped that we will apply ourselves with freedom, fervency
and zeal. Frederick Dalcho’s Ahimon Rezon tells us that “the stern integrity of Saint John the Baptist, which induced
him to forego every minor consideration in discharging the obligations he owed to God; the unshaken firmness with
which he met martyrdom rather than betray his duty to his Master; his steady reproval of vice, and continued preaching
of repentance and virtue make him a fit patron of the Masonic institution.” Thus, John the Baptist represents Freedom,
Fervency and Zeal.
John the Evangelist, on the other hand, was a learned man. He is thought to have written the Gospel of John, the first,
second and third epistles of John, and the Book of Revelation. He thus represents Education and the two of them
together represent that education we are to pursue with freedom, fervency and zeal.

Bill Sundquist, Senior Warden

ESTATE PLANNING:
When reviewing your estate planning, please remem-
ber your Lodge in the context of your Masonic obliga-
tion. Please consider specifying “Nitram Lodge #188,
F&AM” when making out your Will or Trust. Or, per-
haps split your donation between the “Masonic Home of
Florida” and Nitram Lodge by designating specifically
to both. Charity is part of our way of Life.
By your thoughtful donations, your Lodge will benefit
for many years, especially if you designate your funds to
be applied appropriately.
If you have questions about how best to designate your
gift, please contact Worshipful Master, Secretary or
Treasurer.
Some of the other bodies through which to gain knowledge in Masonry
We encourage our brothers to join these bodies as they feel necessary but remind each brother of his obligation to his Blue Lodge. Each
brother is encouraged to attend our Stated and Called Communications, at least periodically.

Brothers we are about half way through with our Masonic year and your officers have been to Grand Lodge and voted your will and pleasure. Brothers, your Worshipful Master has been busy with a lot of thing and he is only one man. He needs your support and assistance; he has the task of governing the lodge. He cannot single handedly complete all the tasks that are
required to run the lodge throughout his year. He needs the assistance of all the members to help him carry out his will and the more support he has the easier his year becomes. It’s time to put personal feelings and opinions aside and come together in peace and harmony as a society of friends and brothers and do what is good for the craft. This lodge does not only support The Fraternity but several other organizations as well. There is our Order of the Eastern Star, the Ladies of the Oriental Shrine, and our Cub Scout Pack. All the organizations need the support and assistance of all of us. I hear so many people talk about how we need to stand out in our commu-nity and make a difference. We need to help not just those that are member of the fraternity but all of us who are part of the human family. Personally I’m tired of hearing it but seeing no action, it is time to take action and it must be a unanimous action from more than just the 10-15 people who show up on a regular or semi-regular basis. It takes all of us to be successful and frankly I’m seeing the same 20% of the people doing 80% of the work. Where is the commitment you promised when you first joined? Do you not remember the obli-gations you have taken? I’m challenging all of you to come to lodge and support your Worshipful Master! Let’s make this and all the future years successful, let’s bring masonry out to the forefront of society and show the world what we are really about.
Fraternally, Bro∴ Brian D. Moffat Junior Warden

Brothers,
Over the past year or so, we have intentionally rearranged the table layout to make the social hall
more appealing and relaxing for conversation, whether it be casual social intercourse or a committee
meeting, or anything in between. Most people have commented that there is more room, it’s more
relaxing to sit and chat, you can see the people at your table easier…. And there are other benefits.
The important thing is that we feel comfortable in our Lodge.
Another change that we see sometimes, and more frequently, is that the “beverage bar” is sometimes moved across the
hall from the kitchen. There’s a reason for that, and it seems to be working. With the coffee (particularly) closer to the
center of the hall and also to the “common area”, we don’t seem to have the same old people sitting together at the ta-
ble closest to the kitchen, unaware of what’s going on around them and thereby less sociable.
Our social hall is just as important as our Lodge Room. They’re just used for different purposes, just as your Grandpar-
ent’s formal living room or library wasn’t used for casual purposes and the breakfast nook was used for most meals ex-
cept Sunday dinner. Our social hall is where the life blood of our lodge takes nourishment and refreshment. It is where
we can sit back and have a meal, whether one of our Junior Warden’s monthly meals, breakfast on the First Saturdays,
or at the Annual George Washington’s Birthday Fish Fry or the Stewards’ Bash BBQ. And to dine or have coffee or
tea with friends and brothers is healthy.
So, as you hear of what our Master’s Project is this year — to complete the wainscoting begun several years ago by
WDan Barto, to relocate the photos and posters and other items on the walls to make them more attractive, and to
improve the bathrooms — the purpose is to make our social hall as sociable as it should be! Hopefully, these will be
completed before the summer ends and you’ll feel even prouder when you bring your family and friends to Nitram
Lodge.

Do You Know…
... Who was Aaron?
Aaron was Moses' brother, and the first High Priest under the Mosaic covenant.
... Who was Hermon?
Well,... Hermon isn't a he.
Or, did You Know that…
Psalm 133
Verse 1: "Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!
Verse 2: It is like the precious ointment upon the head, that ran down upon the beard,
even Aaron's beard: That went down to the skirts of his garments.”

My Brothers,
It is time for the Lodge to wind down and take a few weeks off. We have
reached the half way point of our Masonic year, but are getting ready to start a
new Grand Lodge year. June 15th will be our Grand Masters official visit to Districts 20 and 21.
We again are hosting this event at the Masonic Home. Registration is at 5 pm and the supper
starts at 6 pm with a tyled meeting in the board room at 7 pm. If your cable-tow permits, please
try to attend.
Your Lodge will be seeing some facelifts during the summer months. Many of the Brothers have
already started on various aspects of the items we need to do to upkeep our building. The
Stewards BBQ Bash will be used to assist in funding these much needed projects. Come to the
Lodge on Saturday, June 29th and enjoy a great day of food, fellowship, and fun.
Lastly my Brothers, the first notice of delinquent dues has been mailed out. I hope that those of
you who receive a letter understand that this notice is per the Masonic Digest. I urge each and
everyone to send in your lodge dues. It is the dues that assist in the maintenance and repairs. If
you have any questions or concerns, please contact me through the Lodge email at
[email protected]. Any and all conversations are held upon the square.
Fraternally,
Rick
Secretary’s Scribe
From our Chaplain’s Chair
Hermon is a mountain. or technically, a range of high mountains on the northern boundary of
Israel.
Mt. Hermon's snowcapped peaks were a source of ice, also known as "Ice mountain".
The Six-Day War of 1967 not only gave Israel control of Jerusalem, but also of the Mount
Hermon area (the Golan Heights).
The Masonic degree verse of the Entered Apprentice Degree represents Youth, when the body is strong. Those who walk in the ways of the LORD are rewarded the blessing of eternal life.
Brethren,
The Governor of
Florida has signed
the bill, passed
unanimously by
the House and the
Senate, which
authorizes a
Masonic automo-
bile license plate.
In Florida.
More details will
be provided in the
next few months
related to the
specifics of
obtaining this
plate for your car.
Fees associated
with this license
plate will benefit
the Masonic
Home of Florida.

“Education in Freemasonry is meant to be a lifelong process, furthering our un-derstanding of the fraternity and its relevance to today's world”
(quotation copied from “Masons of California” website)
For “well seasoned” Master Masons, have you considered completing the Master Mason I, Master Mason II and Master Mason III training courses? Or, maybe the Lodge Officers Training Course? They are available to download from the Grand Lodge website and are rather informative. Several of our Lodge brother have taken these courses and are the better for having done so. In fact, if there is a subject that you’d like to delve into that’s not so “formal”, that would be good, too.
Remember: no benefit comes to those who don’t apply an appropriate amount of effort. Most of the bene-fits of being a Mason are lost on those who fail to seek further light and only pay their dues so they can have a card in their wallet. If we truly want Masonic Light, we must seek it, just as we did when each of us, of our own free will and accord, submitted our petition for the three degrees. We asked, we sought, and we knocked.
AND — if you think we’re just pushing, ask one of your officers, or some of the others that are around the lodge more regularly, and you’ll find that we might just sit down and take the course with you. We can learn together! Just like Brothers working in the quarries together.

Nitram Lodge supports the following charities, and others, with our funds and our labor. Let’s not
be shy about meeting our obligation to the Human Family.
Bro. David Buono, was passed to the
degree of Fellowcraft on May 16th. Our Junior Deacon, Greg William-
son, presided in the East in the style reflecting Nitram Lodge’s
quality of work. Bro. Bill Sundquist gave the lecture and
Bro. Brian Moffat delivered the Charge.
Congratulations Bro. Buono!
