Where did this come from?• Officially launched in 2005-2006 as the

Student Development Transcript – was a listing of involvement

• Re-named to the Record of Student Development in 2008-2009 – added standards for individual effort (foundational, experiential, and leadership)

• New and current policy framework proposed in 2011-2012 with a university advisory group and involvement outcomes

What is it?A document that officially validates (quality) and then records (quantity) a student’s extra-curricular involvement.

It does this in order to:1. Encourage students to get involved

2. Help students develop soft employment skills

3. Verify student’s involvement for external organizations

Page 4: Nipissing University’s Record of Student Development (RSD)

With recognition, information, and guidance on where and how to get involved:

• Having an official record of involvement might act as an incentive for a student to further their involvement/commitment (esp. for volunteers)

• Information about where to get involved will be more accessible inside a Student Involvement Guidebook

• Guidance will be provided to individual students on how to complete/enhance their Record

How does it Encourage?

How are Activities added onto the Record?

Information about where and how each student has been involved must be provided by the student by either:

1. pre-selecting activities from the Student Information System (webadvisor – tentatively ready to be launched for May 2014) and/or

2.Submitting a Student Involvement Form (see appendix #2)

By effort (Award, Foundational, Experiential, or Leadership):

Awards – for program-based ‘recognition’ awards and/or training completion “certificates”

Foundational – represents attendance at a learning activity or minimal effort

Experiential – represents completion of a defined task with normal effort

Leadership – represents decisive initiative with extra-ordinary effort

And then by date

How are activities recorded

How are Activities verified? All student involvement must be independently verified by the organizer or supervisor of the activity, and collected and compiled, by Career Transitions.

Activities considered learning activities, are pre-determined within the foundational category and must be verified by the organizer of the event using the Organizer’s Verification Form (see Appendix # 6)

Activities considered roles have their category determined by the supervisor’s evaluation of the individual student’s effort using the Supervisor’s Verification Form (see appendix #7)

All organizer’s and supervisor have a 14 day window to complete their verification once the form has been processed by Career Transitions. Failure to submit in the 2 week period means that the student’s involvement may not be recorded.
