Routine 1 Do the Following Routine ONCE per day and your chord changes will be much better in 30 days time.

Part 1

A) Spider - 1 minute

Play the `Spider` at a fret that is comfortable for you and then work your way down the fretboard until you can`t quite play it fluently.

This is the fret that will push you out of your comfort zone.

E.G if the 5th fret is comfortable, but the 4th fret is not, then focus on playing it there.

B) Mirror - 1 minute

Play the `Mirror` at a fret that is comfortable for you and then work your way down the fretboard until you can`t quite play it fluently.

As with the `Spider`, this is the fret that will push you out of your comfort zone.

E.G if the 5th fret is comfortable, but the 4th fret is not, then

focus on playing it there.

Check the Three P`s throughout - Posture, Positioning, Pressure

Part 2

A) Play the Fundamental Chords - 2 minutes

Remember the fundamental chords are:

G (both rock and folk versions)

C

D

Em

Am

Play them with a capo at a position that is comfortable ensuring all strings and notes sound clear.

Move the capo down to a fret that is slightly out of your comfort zone and practice this technique there just like you did with the spider and the mirror.

Pick each string individually to make sure each chord is played properly.

Adjust your fingers till the chords all sound great and ensure you are using the `Minimum pressure required`.

B) Freeze Method - 2 minutes

Apply this method for 10 times per fundamental chord

C) Pivot Method - 2 minutes

Think about which of the 5 chords you can pivot between and use the pivot method on each chord change you can, so `pivoting` where possible becomes a habit.

D) Blast Method - 2 minutes

Blast back and forth between each chord in the following order ensuring you `hover` each finger before placing it down on the fretboard.

G - C X 10

Em - D X 10

C - D X 10

Check the Three P`s throughout - Posture, Positioning, Pressure

Part 3

A) Pick a simple strum pattern – 2 Minutes

I.E. D-D-D-DU as shown in the video.

Very slowly perfect the `Lift Off` method for any chords you want to get faster at changing between.

If you can use the `Pivot` method do so. The `Lift Off` method should only be used where the `Pivot` method cannot – which will actually be for most chord changes, so make sure you perfect the `Lift Off` method!

Remember do this as slow as you need to and use the `Never stop strumming` method.

B) Pick a slightly more complex strum pattern - 3 Minutes

I.E. The D-DU-UDU as shown in the video.

As with the above, very slowly perfect the `Lift Off` method (or `Pivot` method if possible) for any chords you want to get faster at changing between.

Remember do this as slow as you need to and use the `Never stop strumming` method.

Routine 2 Short routine

This routine is slightly less technical than the first routine and is more about applying what we learned in the first routine in the context of a song.

Both routines are very important. This routine should be the second one you do in the day.

For this routine, we do not have a set time for each section.

The only rule is that you need to spend at least 1 minute on each section, but apart from that you can spend your 10 minutes for this routine how you choose to.

Set a timer and let`s begin.

A) Pick a song you are struggling to play because of your chord changes

Take the chords for each section and get ready to master them.

Let`s use Ed Sheeran`s song `Give Me Love` as an example.

It`s a great example as there are a LOT of chord changes in the song so you can try out all of the techniques in this course in just this one song.

The song is played with a capo on the first fret, and the chords and chord order (otherwise known as chord progression) for the song is:

Intro/verse - Am, F, C

Bridge - Dm, F, C, Em, Dm, F

Chorus – C, Dm, F (X3) Am, F, C

Play the strum pattern that the song uses or use a simplified strum pattern as a substitute.

B) The Pivot Method

Play through the chords in the song (or any song of your choosing if you are not an Ed Sheeran fan!) and make a note of any chords you CAN `Pivot` between.

Am to F to C and back to Am you can pivot between.

Which other chords in the song can you `Pivot` between?

C) The Lift off Method

Play through all the chords in song making a note of all the chords you `CAN`T `Pivot` between.

Very slowly perfect the `Lift Off` method for these chords as slow as you need to.

Once comfortable introduce the `Never stop strumming` method with your strumming arm.

D) The Blast Method

Take the loop of the chords for each section. I.E. the verse.

Blast through them in a loop ensuring you `hover` your fingers before placing them down.

Optional Extras:

TV chords

Don`t forget you can practice your chord changes anytime you watch TV (or do anything else that is similar) by using the method I call `TV chords`.

Use all the techniques in this course and ensure you go through each of the above routines at least once per day each.

They do not take long and the focused practice and specific techniques are guaranteed to increase the speed, comfort and accuracy of your chord changes, helping you to become a better guitarist and have more fun!

Thank you and I wish you all the best.
