Update; Parish Meeting. The next step in the Faith in Our Future (FIOF) process is to respond to the pre-liminary recommendations of the Diocesan Planning Commission (DPC) by October 1, 2016. As part of that effort, we will have a parish meeting of registered St. Michael’s parishioners to explain Faith in Our Future more fully and have a conversation about it. The meet-ing’s agenda will be limited to Faith in Our Future and to questions, concerns, and opinions pertaining to that specific topic and to the DPC’s preliminary recommen-dations. We will use the current list of registered St. Michael’s parishioners for an admission/sign-in sheet. The parish meeting will be on Tuesday, August 9 from 7:00 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. in the Upper Church. Background. The response of the DPC to our Co-hort’s suggestions was published in our July 17 Parish bulletin and posted on the Parish and Diocesan web-sites on July 8. The DPC’s suggestions included “linking” St. Michael’s with a merged St. Jerome’s and St. Mary’s. These preliminary recommendations of the DPC (as part of the over-all FIOF process) were also addressed in the July 24 and July 31 bulletins. Two-page special inserts regarding FIOF appeared in the June 26 and July 17 bulletins. At all the Masses of the July 9 and 10 weekend, Fr. John announced and briefly explained the DPC recommendations. Please Pray. Please continue praying for the guid-ance of the Holy Spirit and for the success of Faith in Our Future as our preparation for change and its imple-mentation marches forward in our Diocese, our Cohort # 17, and our Parish.

Mass of Installation

We are very pleased to announce that

Bishop David M. O’Connell will celebrate Mass at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, August 21st

for the installation of Father John K. Butler

as Pastor of St. Michael’s Church.

A reception will follow at 3:00 p.m. at San Alfonso Retreat House. All are welcome!

Parish Day of Prayer for Vocations

Our Parish Day of Prayer for Vocations took place this past Thursday, August 4 - the Memorial of St. John Vianney (patron saint of parish priests). Many seats were filled, many prayers were prayed, and many roses were presented to the Blessed Mother and St. Joseph urging their intercession—along with John Vianney’s—for an increase in vocations. Thank you to Fr. Garry Koch for cele-brating our Mass for Vocations and to Dotty O’Hara and the numerous volunteers who participated and assisted through-out the day. St. John Vianney, pray for us! Holy Spirit, please send us more laborers for the harvest!

Such cooperation in grace is sometimes the very essence of our happiness.” St. Claude de la Co-lombiere Our Lord’s grace is always with us – it is in us and will never leave us! Let us always remember to thank Our Lord Jesus for the countess graces He has poured down on us from our birth.

DIOCESE TO CELEBRATE SOON-TO-BE SAINT TERESA OF CALCUTTA WITH MASS

All are invited to join Bishop Da-vid M. O’Connell, C.M., for a Mass of Thanksgiving to celebrate the

canonization of Blessed Teresa of Calcutta Sept. 4 at 11 a.m. in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, a worship site of Mother of Mercy Parish, Asbury Park. Bishop O’Connell will be principal celebrant and homilist of the Mass and all are invited to attend.

Mother Teresa will be elevated to sainthood earlier that day by Pope Francis during a Mass at the Vatican in Rome.

Mother Teresa’s community–the Missionaries of Chari-ty–has served in the Diocese of Trenton since 1999 when the sisters responded to an invitation from Bishop John C. Reiss to begin their ministry working among the poor in Asbury Park.

Today, there are five Missionaries of Charity who now reside in the Asbury Park convent. Their work includes visiting area nursing homes including in the towns of Neptune and Bradley Beach and teaching religious edu-cation in Mother of Mercy Parish (which was created from a merger of three Asbury Park parishes -- Our La-dy of Mount Carmel, Holy Spirit and St. Peter Claver, and Neptune’s Our Lady of Providence).

FEAR: “I say I am stronger than fear.” - Malala Yousafzal

I fear the news. I fear the loss of humanity. I fear the lack of kind-ness to each other. I fear the loss of HOPE. I fear my children’s future. I fear more the future of my possible grandchildren. I fear the future, period.

But I have God in my heart and I believe that there is hope for us all. Life is to be lived. Problems can be solved. Even when we get in over our heads. Tread water. Don’t give up. Don’t lose hope.

“This is all you have. This is not a dry run. This is your life. If you want to fritter it away with your fears, then you will frit-ter it away, but you won’t get it back later.” Laura Schlessinger

“Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” Matthew 6:34

“Love is what we were born with. Fear is what we learned here.” Marrianne Williamson

“Under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time, cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.” Peter 5:6-7

But it can also cause us not to experience life possibilities, life’s new joys.
