Provided that when required by the Collector the manufac-ture shall take place under the .supervision of an officer andthat in each case before drawback is allowed the Collectorshall be satisfied that the drawback claimed is properly due.

Telegraphs, Melbourne, for the conveyance of mails as fromIst July, 1933, over the undermentioned services. 'Tendersmust reach the General Post Office, Melbourne, not later thanThree p.m. on Tuesday, 10th May, 1933.

2. Unless otherwise stated the period for which tenders areinvited is three years, but consideration will be given totenders for a lesser period, and also to tenders for a periodup to five years when a motor vehicle would be used for the''performance of the service.

Appointment of Biochemist.THE Council for Scientific and Industrial Research invites

applications for appointment to the position ofAssistant Research Officer ( Biochemist) to assist in investiga-tions in the preservation and transport of foodstuffs. Appli-cants should possess a University degree in science (honoursor equivalent) with qualifications or experience in mycology,bacteriology and chemistry.

The officer appointed will have his headquarters at theCouncil's Food Preservation Research Laboratory, Brisbane.The nominal salary will be £392 per annum, equivalent atpresent to £306 per annum after deductions under the Finan-cial Emergency Act and the cost of living scale, with twoannual increments of £18 each (nominal) . Further advance-ment in salary -will be in the discretion of the ExecutiveCommittee of the Council and will be dependent also uponthe. performance of research work of a character justifyingincreased salary.

The successful applicant will be appointed initially onprobation for a period of twelve mònths, but thereafter he maybe appointed as an officer under section 14A of the Scienceand Industry Research Act 1920 -1926, in which case he wouldbe eligible to contribute to and receive benefits under theCommonwealth Superannuation Fund.
