Anyone stuck for a Christmas gift this year, can take

up Arnold Thomsen’s advice and look no further

than a wonderful three pack.

It’s all black and white.

1. The final of the World

Rugby, and all the

games leading up to it.

(4 hr D.V.D.)

2. Ross Taylor’s 290 run

feast at the WACA, a dis-

play not seen since Don

Bradman. (3 hr. D.V.D.)

3. A jar of the best import-

ed Lanolin, money can

buy. ($15.00).

CUP DAY 2015 AT KEILOR BOWLS CLUB.

The day unfolded with members arriving looking forward to bowls, sweeps and a wonderful luncheon. There was all this and

more on Cup Day at our club. One member arrived looking as though she should have turned left to Flemington instead of

right to Keilor BC – except for the shoes. It did not go down too well when she was asked by one member if she had raided

the local op. shop. The club looked great with tables already set up in Melbourne Cup theme and decorations on the tables

made by Ivy McLeod. Allan Krell came down to organise the games and get us out on the green prior to leaving the rest of the

day in the hands of our trusty volunteers. Thank you Ivy and Allan.

After a coffee and chat, 2 games of bowls of 10 ends were played straight through in very mild weather. The bowling winners

were Joe Bayona, Rae Knowles and Pat Black with 33 points and sufficient shots up to put Lorraine Henneken and her team

of Margaret Bromley and Doreen Treble in second position. Well done everyone.

In we went to a wonderful lunch of chicken and leek sauce, vegies and potato stuffed with bacon and mushrooms, home

made bread with a complimentary glass of sparkling wine to wash it down. This was followed by lemon delicious dessert.

What a bargain for $15.00pp. We would like to say a very big thank you to Helen and Diane along with their apprentices Bob,

Allen and Brian Davis. This group worked tirelessly all day to make our luncheon special and a lot of work was also done the

day previously. A big thank you to those who upped and lent a helping hand in the cleaning up after lunch.

Thanks also to those members who worked on the bar – much appreciated.

We had a number of non playing members who called in for lunch, one of those being Neville Morton who we had not seen at

our club for some time due to health issues. It was great to see him enjoying the lunch and the afternoon.

Of course Cup Day is about the big race and Bob and Allen started organising the sweeps very early with the result that there

were 7 sweeps. We felt that some members had the field covered. Bob, Darren and Jim draw the horses with accompanying

comments from the drawer and the recipients.

The race was run, the winners collected their money, the meat raffle was drawn and gradually the club emptied. Another

great day at our club enjoyed by all who attended. Make sure that you are on the horse (list) next year.

Ben Carroll M.P., the Sate Member for Niddrie, a great supporter of the Keilor Bowls Club was married on Saturday, 14th November. We wish Ben and his new wife every happiness for now and in the future.

Celebrations as “our” Carla Odgers is lifted high

after winning “The Vic. Open” for the third time in

four years. Carla beat Lisa Phillips in an epic final

21-20 played at Shepparton.

Carla has a busy time now playing bowls in New

Zealand before her big wedding day in December.

I would like the “powers to be” at our club to make sure the lunch time break in Mid Week Pennant is not confused with “late break-

fast”. I had only just finished my last piece

of toast and the dinner bell rang at

A strong rumour around the club is that Fred Donaldson has been touch with Lance Armstrong to gain advice on his cycling career. We all hope Fred doesn't feel the need to take anything Lance may have in a small bottle that looks like aspirin or an injection he believes to be for the flu ( wink wink ). It can be easy to become over confident that you are above the LAW when you are greeted by a row of Police cars on your very first ride. Remember Fred no one is above the law, not even a bowler from Keilor. So Fred, if you don't feel confident about the body standing up to the grueling riggers of cycling you can always catch the TRAIN to your next destination.— From a concerned member.

AM Boss sponsored Cecile's Purple Day at Keilor Bowls

Club on Sunday 15th. November. Once again we were blessed with perfect weather and a full green with visiting teams swelling our numbers. It was great to see those who had made the effort to wear the col-our of the day - PURPLE - in one way or the other. Cecile and Diane Marshall were at the club bright and early with Diane making us a treat to go with our early morning cuppa. With our green running perfectly, and the sun shining it was a great day for bowling. We started off with two ditch to ditches and then went on to play two games of 15 ends. The lunch break gave us all a chance for a rest and to catch up with our visitors. The winners on the day were Lorraine Henneken’s team of Lyn Martin and Barry Dean. The Runners Up were Frank Franchi, Leo Mobilio and Diana Radojkovic. Best Game winners were Ben Huygen, Trixie Huygen and Pat Del Re. Well done to all. As well there were other prizes for the fortunate. The lucky chair, door prize and many raffle prizes. What a great day enjoyed by all those who attended. Special thanks to Allan Krell and Charlie McInerney for organis-ing the draw. A great Mixed Bowls Sunday Social day at Keilor Bowls Club fin-ished with cheese, biscuits and a drink. Well done to all.

How lucky we are to have people, apart from those elected to commit-

tees, willing to help out when needed, some are even non-bowlers,

but enjoy being involved with activities associated with the club.

As an example Ivy McLeod is happy to make table decorations for

any occasion be it Christmas or Cup Day.

On game day Shauna Richmond is always willing to help put out the

afternoon tea, clean the tables and any other job we don't have time

for before the game starts.

Kaye Donaldson expertly edits our interesting newsletter that keeps

us up to date with events on and off the green.

Councils & Governments give recognition to those who volunteer. We

as a club should be grateful and thankful not only to those elected

members who give so much of their time, and are often criticised for

their effort, but those who "chip in" when needed.

Peter Keogh says “My wife loves Christmas Shopping so much, she will buy anything that

is marked down. — Yesterday she came home with an escalator!”

I’ve found the leak

It may look as if there was a massive leak, and in fact

there was, but Troy Kerry had no sooner fixed it and down

came the rain which flooded both greens on Oakes Day.

Round 7 of Midweek Pennant was a mixed bag for our club.

Side 1 Played Williamstown BC at Williamstown and thanks to a great win by Trevor Harmers rink of Rae Knowles (3) Jennifer Knight (2) and Barry Dean (Lead) of 35-15, Keilor won the day. Lorraine Henneken’s rink drew 18 all and Max Knights rink lost by 3. Well done everyone.

Side 2 Played at Home against Heidelberg Golf 2 and lost 47 - 63 with only John Hutton’s rink of Tom Lingford(3) Margaret Hutton (2) and Fred Donaldson (L) winning by 4 shots. Better bowling next week when you play Buckley Park at Home.

Side 3 had a great win with Gloria Norman’s rink of John Hamilton (3), Glenda Mullen (2) and Sandra Frisch (L) winning 30 - 14 +16shots. Garry Munday’s rink of Joy Hamilton (3) Peter fisher (2) and Ken McLeod (L) won by 3 shots and Norma Prendergast’s rink going down by only 2 shots. Well done by all. The rotation process is still in place for this Side due to numbers. Good bowling in Round 8

Friday 18th December

6th Side cancelled for the rest of the season At the joint Board/Bowls Committee Meeting last Mon-day the decision was made to cancel the 6th side for the rest of this season.

It was always going to be a fine line as to whether we would be able to field the side each week but with the players that have joined we were hoping to be able to give them a game of pennant each week.

However, with illness, accidents etc., the Selectors were short of players each week, (often up to 14 players).

Next year we hope to have everyone available to play and be in a position to have a successful 6th side again.

Parking fines imminent Due to reports made to the Council about cars parked in Barcelona Avenue illegally by bowlers, the club has been advised that fines will be commencing in the near future. If you see visiting bowlers infringing please let them be aware of the outcome.— Maureen Sutton
