General Information Skill Level: Confident Beginner Please read all instructions before beginning. All seams are sewn with a 1/4” seam

allowance. Pre-wash and press with spray starch. WOF = Width of Fabric is based on 42”.

Press all seams open (unless directedotherwise) to decrease bulk.

Finished Blocks are 10” square. Label all pieces when cut for easier

construction.

Note: Always refer back to the illustration on the cover as a guide when sewing this project together.

Step 1: Cutting the Fabric1. Fabric A – Fussy cut (16) 10-1/2” squares on POINT. Layout 16 templates to assure placement.2. Fabric B – Cut (1) strip at 10-1/2” x WOF – Sub-cut into (4) 10-1/2” squares.3. Fabric C – Cut (1) strip at 8-1/2” x WOF – Sub-cut into (4) 8-1/2” squares – Block B.4. Fabric D – Cut (1) strip at 8-1/2” x WOF – Sub-cut into (4) 8-1/2” squares – Block C.5. Fabric E – Cut (1) strip at 8-1/2” x WOF – Sub-cut into (4) 8-1/2” squares – Block A.6. Fabric F – Cut as follows:

a. Cut (1) strip at 8-1/2” x WOF – Sub-cut into (24) 1-1/2” x 8-1/2” rectangles – Blocks A, B, and C.b. Cut (1) strip at 10-1/2” x WOF – Sub-cut into (24) 1-1/2” x 10-1/2” rectangles – Blocks A, B, and C.c. Cut (8) strips at 1-3/4” x WOF – Join all the strips at the 1-3/4” edges – Border 2.

7. Fabric G – Cut as follows:a. Cut (2) strips at 8-7/8” x WOF – Sub-cut into (7) 8-7/8” squares, then cross-cut once from tip to

tip to yield (14) large triangles – Triangle Inserts (Top, Bottom, and Sides).b. Cut (1) strip at 6-1/8” x WOF – Sub-cut into (2) 6-1/8” square, then cross-cut once to yield (4)

small triangles – Triangle Inserts (Corners).c. Cut (9) strips at 2-1/2” x WOF – Join all the strips at the 2-1/2” edge for the Binding

8. Fabric H – Cut as follows:a. Cut (1) strip at 10-7/8” x WOF – Sub-cut into (14) 1-1/2” x 10-7/8” rectangles – Large Triangle

Inserts (Top, Bottom, and Sides).b. From the balance of the 10-7/8” strip cut (1) 10-7/8” x 11-1/4” rectangle then cut into (4) 1-1/2”

x 11-1/4” rectangles – Small Triangle Inserts (Corners).c. Cut (1) strip at 9-7/8” x WOF – Sub-cut into (14) 1-1/2” x 9-7/8” rectangles – Large Triangle Inserts

(Top, Bottom, and Sides).d. Cut (8) strips at 1-1/2” x WOF – Join all the strips at the 1-1/2” edge – Border 1.

9. Fabric I – Cut (4) strips parallel to the selvage edge at 3-1/2” x 81” – Border 3.

Step 2 – Blocks A, B, and CBlock A

10. Sew (1) Fabric F 1-1/2” x 8-1/2” rectangle to opposite edges of (1) Fabric E 8-1/2” square – Make (4).11. Sew (1) Fabric F 1-1/2” x 10-1/2” rectangle to the remaining sides so that

Block A measures 10-1/2” square as illustrated in Example A – Make (4) –Label and set aside for use later.

Block B12. Do exactly the same process for Block B as done for Block A except replace

Fabric E with Fabric C – Make (4) of Block B – Label and set aside for uselater.

Block C13. Do exactly the same process for Block C as done for Block A except replace

Fabric E with Fabric D – Make (4) of Block C – Label and set aside for uselater.

Step 3 – Triangle InsertsTop, Bottom, and Sides

14. Sew (1) Fabric H 1-1/2” x 9-7/8” rectangle to one SHORT edge of (1) FabricG “Large Triangle” then sew (1) Fabric H 1-1/2” x 10-7/8” rectangle to theadjacent SHORT edge as illustrated in Example B. Trim off the excess ofFabric H even with the LONG edge of Fabric G – Make (14) – Label “LargeTriangle” and set aside for use later.

Corner15. Center and sew (1) Fabric H 1-1/2” x 11-1/4” rectangle to the LONG edge

of (1) Fabric G “Small Triangle” as illustrated in Example B. Trim off theexcess of Fabric H even with the short edges of Fabric G – Make (4) – Label“Small Triangle” and set aside for use later.

Step 4 – Sewing the CenterNote: The blocks and triangles are sewn together in rows and begin at the lower left cornerconstruction when sewing the diagonal rows together. The center will measure approximat3/4”. The rows are labeled from 1 to 8 beginning at the bottom left and not including the SCorners at the bottom left and upper right. Be sure to layout the pieces in their proper posias illustrated in the quilt layout below. The pieces are sewn together from left to right.

16. Sew the rows together as follows:a. Row 1 – Large Triangle, Fabric B, Large Triangleb. Row 2 – Large Triangle, Fabric A, Block A, Fabric A, Large Trianglec. Row 3 – Large Triangle, Fabric A, Block C, Fabric A, Block C, Fabric A, Large Triad. Row 4 – Large Triangle, Fabric A, Block B, Fabric A, Block B, Fabric A, Block B, F

Trianglee. Row 5 – Small Triangle, Fabric B, Block A, Fabric A, Block A, Fabric A, Block A, F

Trianglef. Row 6 – Large Triangle, Fabric A, Block C, Fabric A, Block C, Fabric A, Large Triag. Row 7 – Large Triangle, Fabric A, Block B, Fabric A, Large Triangleh. Row 8 – Large Triangle, Fabric B, Large Triangle

17. Sew the rows together then add the final (2) Small Triangle to the lower left cornercorner to finish the quilt center.

Step 5 – Adding the BordersBorder 1

18. Measure the LEFT and RIGHT SIDES of the quilt center, then cut (2) sections from Fabric H 1-1/2” joinedstrips using the longest measurement as this will allow for the quilt to work out straight – Pin to secureto assist with any bias stretch.

19. Do exactly the same for the TOP and BOTTOM to finish Border 1.Border 2

20. Do exactly the same as done for Border 1 except replace Fabric H with Fabric F to finish Border 2.Border 3

21. Do exactly the same as done for Border 1 except replace Fabric H with Fabric I to finish the quilt top.Note: Refer to the cover image for direction of words.

Step 6 – Finishing the QuiltNote about Backing:You may use a 2-1/2 yards piece of wide backing. Or if using 42” to 44” wide fabric, cut (2) backing pieces at2-1/2 yards by WOF, and the seam will be horizontal. If using directional print, cut (2) backing pieces at 2-3/4Yards by WOF and the seam will be vertical. Sew the SELVAGE edges together using a 1” seam then trim theselvage off and press to one side.

22. Layer the backing, batting, and quilt top and quilt as desired.23. Using joined 2-1/2” strips of Fabric G sew on the binding to finish the quilt.
