SECRETARIAT REPORT FOR THE MONTH OF MAY, 2017 HIGHLIGHTS

The Secretariat activities for the month of May, 2017 are highlighted as follows:

WEEK 1

Dr. C.J. Achonwa Chairman NMA FCT represented the NMA President at the Local Organizing Committee Meeting for the Nigeria National Health Fair 2017 hold on 3rd May, 2017 at the Hon. Minister of State for Health Conference Room , Second floor FMoH, Abuja.

Chairman NMA Lagos State Dr. O. Odusote represented the NMA President at the 8th Academic for Entrepreneurial Studies, Nigeria (AES) Annual National Conference held on 18th May, 2017 at Nigeria Institute of International Affairs 13/15, Kofo Abayomi Street, V. I. Lagos.

Report from the Medical Women’s Association of Nigeria (MWAN) presented to the Nigerian Medical Association by the President Prof. Echendu Dolly Adinma during the AGC/ADM in Calabar was received.

Report on the activities of the NMA liaison Desk Officer Mr. Komolafe Nelson at Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria MDCN was received at the NMA Secretariat.

WEEK 2

Chairman NMA Lagos State Dr. Olumuyiwa Odusote led a delegation from NMA Lagos State to represent the NMA President Prof. Mike O. Ogirima at a Symposium organized by the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria held on 11th May, 2017 at Ade Ajayi Auditorium, University of Lagos.

The President of the Nigerian Medical Association Prof. Mike O. Ogirima issued a press release on the Ebola Outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo

Prof. Mike O. Ogirima President of the Nigerian Medical Association led a delegation to a Courtesy Visit to the Executive Governor of Rivers State Barr. Nyesom Wike on 15th May, 2017 at the Banquet Hall of the government House Port Harcout, Rivers State.

Dr. Ben Ododo represented the NMA President as a delegate for an oversight visit by Members of the House of Representative AD-HOC Committee on the Investigation of the Health Implication of Mounting Telecommunications Masts close to Buildings.

WEEK 3

NMA President Prof. Mike Ogirima attended

the APBN Presidential Retreat at Asaba, Delta

State.

NMA VP1 Dr. Kingsley Enweremadu led NMA

delegation to the Public Hearing on on the

Bill to amend the NHIS Act at the National

Assembly.

The Management of ASO Savings and Loan Ltd paid a Courtesy Visit to the National Officers Committee (NOC) on the 16th May, 2017 at the NMA National Secretariat, Abuja.

Chairman of the Nigeria Tobacco Control Alliance Mr. Akinbode Oluwafemi led a delegation on a Courtesy Visit to the National Officers Committee (NOC) of the Nigerian Medical Association on 16th May, 2017 at the NMA Conference Room, Abuja.

Specialty groups to a two day public hearing

on some health bills at the National

Assembly, Abuja

NMA President Prof. Mike O. Ogirima attended Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Group of Manufacturers Association of Nigerian (PMG-MAN) Annual Forum held on 25th May, 2017 at the Transcorp Hilton, Maitama, Abuja

NMA Committee on the Review of the Activities of the NMA met at the NMA National Secretariat and with the Registrar of the MDCN at the MDCN House Kaura district, Abuja

Dr. Fatima Zara Mairami represented the NMA President at Umuganda/PECA Cancer Awareness Programme at the National Stadium, Abuja

The Edo State Chairman, Dr. Emmanuel Osaigbovo represented the President at the 190th Inaugural Lecture Series of the University of Benin.

Dr. C.J Achonwa represented the President at the Healthcare Innovation in Nigeria Award Ceremony organized by Save the Children in Abuja.
