STUDENT NIGHT RECAP

The CNJ/NYIFT Student Night was held on Wednesday, February 13 at the Heldrich Hotel in New Brunswick, NJ. We had over 50 people in attendance; many were students who came to hear Dr. Liping Zhao’s presentation on The Gut Microbiome in Human Nutrition and Health. We had 11 poster presentations covering many different subject areas. If you missed this year’s Student Night, you missed a great event! Each year, CNJIFT & NYIFT hold a joint meeting where the focus is on students. At this meeting, Graduate students as well as Undergraduate students present their research in poster format. The meeting provides a unique opportunity for members in industry to see future professionals in food science more closely and also gain an appreciation of exciting new directions in food science education. During this meeting, poster presentations are judged by the NYIFT Awards Committee and the top three presenters receive monetary awards. Below are the winners.

Congratulations NYIFT Scholarship Winners . . . and special thanks to the judges this year – Carol BoNey, Melanie Gong, Joseph Hildebrand, Lisa Rosenberg, Paul Takhistov, and Bev Tepper. A big THANK YOU goes to Debbie Koch at Rutgers for coordinating all the logistics for the interviews and Poster Presentations. NYIFT received 12 applications from Graduate and Undergraduate Students.

Recap of 2019 NYIFT Suppliers Day & Mini Career Fair A Full Day of Learning, Meeting & Networking

First, the New York IFT Section would like to thank our exhibitors. Without you, Suppliers Day would not be possible. We had 193 exhibitors from all parts of the USA, Canada, and Italy, representing all types of ingredients used in foods, beverages, and related industries with approximately 1,100 attendees. This also included a few exhibitors who took advantage of our Career Fair.

Thank you for traveling to the Meadowlands Expo Center in Secaucus, New Jersey to showcase your products and services, our attendees certainly appreciated it. We also would like to thank our Suppliers’ Day sponsors and door prize donors. Whether your company sponsored an item, provided donations of snacks and beverages, or gave a monetary donation that went toward a special purpose, it was gratefully acknowledged and accepted. Additionally, we want to thank our Mini Career Fair exhibitors who felt it was worthwhile and would like us to continue to have this next year.

2019 NYIFT Suppliers Day Event Sponsors

Thank you for your continued support of our Section!! Colony Gums Gold Coast Ingredients Viveri Corp.

Our “Design Thinking in Product Development” Workshop was coordinated by Suppliers Day Volunteer Marc Meyers of Balchem and Susan Mayer of RTI. It drew in close to 40 people and it was apparent from all those who attended that this is an important topic and very relevant in today’s marketplace. This year the Show started at 3:30 p.m. and

ended at 6:30 p.m. There were plenty of door

prizes and a grand door prize of a shopping spree donated by Briess Malt

& Ingredients. The shopping spree consisted of $625 worth of Gift Cards!

We also held an after-show reception from 6:30 to 8:00 pm. This was for

both exhibitors and attendees to relax in a casual atmosphere, enjoying

some food and beverage before leaving the

show. It was a full day of learning, meeting

with suppliers, and networking with friends and associates.

We will be sending out a survey not only to our exhibitors but also to our attendees to

learn how we can continue to improve our Section’s Suppliers Day. We would like to

know about the hours, location, reception, and whether or not you come from out of

town and need a hotel.

Soon we will begin to make plans for next year’s Show and we hope you won’t miss

it! If you are interested in joining the Suppliers Day Committee, please contact Gerri

at the NYIFT Office 201-905-0090 or email [email protected].
