Shackelford Endowment Fund Update

The members of the committee (Wayne Lynch, David Moore, Claude Carey, Bob Davis, and Lavonne Rutledge) recently met and would like to offer an update to the congregation. In 2014 the committee gave the church a gift of $300,000 with various ministries and missions the beneficiaries. With recent changes, such as the Blair House purchase not moving forward, the committee has re-allocated some funds. The committee has allocated funding to the Primetimers, Library, 2016 Moffett Mission Offering, community mission projects, Eagle Eyrie, Nicaragua Mission Trip, and will offer insurance property support for the current budget. These allocations are in addition to the Shackelford Scholarships, Minister to Youth & Children Salary, Youth/Children Camps, and specific property projects. These funds reside in church accounts and managed by the committee. The other aspect of the Shackelford Fund is the investment with Raymond James. That account is valued at $962,600 as of May 31, 2016. If you have any questions about the Shackelford Fund please contact a member of the committee or Pastor Cameron.

Worship on July 10th Dr. CAM McIntire, retired Pastor of College Park Baptist Church, will be

preaching as Pastor Cameron will be at Passport.

In our recent clean-up of the building we have gathered wooden furniture that

was not in use. They are stored in the old Roane SS class on the 2nd

floor. You are welcome to take any pieces you like.

On June 4, members of the Russell Scruggs Team including Teresia Furr, Roslyne Slate, Lavonne Rutledge, Lucy White and Eddie (Os) Taylor, with assistance from Ruby Johnson and Becky Beck of Vance Street Baptist Church and nine young people from the Chatham Boys and Girls Club, served ham, biscuits, corn, stringbeans, and Nutty Bars to 142 of our community friends. On June 11, the Lewis-Dunn Team, led by Amy Keesee with supportive help from Bob Davis, Eddie (Os) Taylor, Janet and Dale Hilliard, Ida Bailey, Anne Shields and John Eagle served corn, stringbeans, pork loin, rolls and Oatmeal Crème Pies to 142 local residents. On June 18, Sandy and Melissa Clarke, Scott and Jennifer Williams, Tommy Motley, Lorie and John Touart, Ronnie and Betty Dillon, and Tammy and Dwayne Moser, all from Mt. Hermon Baptist Church, served ham, corn, stringbeans, rolls and cookies to 152 of our friends. On June 25, the Danville Host Lions Club served hot dogs with all the condiments, baked beans, potato chips, and slaw to 195 community residents. Arrangements were made by Chuck Sampson and Wayne Smith; the food preparation was provided by Penny Clark, Ashley Clark and Tammy Warren; and additional helpers at “serving time” included Robert Fuller, and Mike, Mary, Rosie and Brooke Mondul. We are grateful for the dedicated service of these volunteers and for the continued support of you, the members of the Moffett family!

Community Bible Club Was Successful! On Monday-Friday, June 6-10, in keeping with the spirit of “Better

Together,” Moffett and Vance Street Baptist Church combined workers and leadership roles to launch a united effort to reach out to the children on our

area of North Danville. Major activities focused on the story of Joseph (as presented in Genesis), crafts, music, recreation and lunch. The events were

held at Vance Street. Janet Hilliard, with the assistance of a role-playing “Joseph” from Vance Street led the Bible study; Russell Scruggs directed the

crafts, music, and recreation; and Dorothy Keesee, Barbara Gunnell, and Brenda Smith prepared the meals on two of the five days. 33 youth were enrolled; 28

was the maximum attendance for one day; and the average attendance was 14. The spirit of cooperation among the workers from the two churches was

wonderful and we look forward to other joint ventures in the future!

Community Garden! We are pleased to report that our small community garden is being

productive! During the past few weeks, cucumbers, squash, onions, radishes, heads of cabbage, and vine-ripened tomatoes have been shared with residents within the immediate church area. Meanwhile, deer tracks beside the tomato

rows explain the mystery of a number of half-eaten tomatoes left on the vines!

Jason and Amanda Aherron would like to thank the church family for all their help and prayers during Ayrabella's treatments. Your monetary giving has helped tremendously with all the cost of trip to Winston-Salem and all the hospital stays we have had. Your

prayers have given us strength we didn't know we had. God has been good and we are nearing the end of her induction period in

the next few weeks. We will then enter into a maintenance period where we will be taking Ayrabella to Winston once or twice a

month. This will last about two years. Everything has been going the way the Doctors have wanted and we are very grateful for this.

Thank you all. Amanda and Jason

To Moffett Church Family, thank you so much for the cards, phone calls , concerns and most of all the prayers for my recent cataract surgery. I truly feel blessed to be a member of this congregation.

Exciting Youth Trip for January 2017!

Passport Camps hosts an event called Faith in 3D at the Walt Disney Resort in Florida every three years. It is an ecumenical Christian youth gathering of over 1,000 young people. It is an amazing experience of worship, faith-learning, fellowship, and fun!

Here are the details…

* MLK Weekend 2017- January 13-16.

* $275 per participant, youth and chaperones, which includes 3 nights at the conference WDW resort hotel, 2-day park tickets, and three meals.

* A non-refundable deposit of $75 is due by August 15 with final payment of $200 due by October 15. Once payments (including the deposit) are made they are non-refundable. If payment is made to attend than a commitment to attend needs to be honored by the youth and their parent/guardian. Smaller payments (with the exception of the deposit) can be made until final payment dead-line.

* We will leave early Friday morning January 13th meaning a day of school will be missed. We will return late on January 16th (MLK Holiday.)

* This experience is open for any 6th-12th graders as 6th graders can be included in the conference. We have limited chaperone space if you are interested in chaperoning.

* For the conference schedule, speakers, etc. please visit www.faithin3d.org.

18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all na-

tions, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded

you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
