My First Experience with the Macedonian BuildersPete Underwood, Pastor - Emmanuel Missionary Baptist Church, Bogalusa, LA

For almost four years our church family had discussed a much needed building expansion to facilitate a larger fellowship hall, more classrooms, bigger offices and bathrooms and some extra storage closets. This would be a massive undertaking considering the addition would be a little more than 6,000 square feet. Some pastor friends of mine mentioned the Macedonian Builders. Growing up and ministering in Florida, as well as in Kentucky, I knew of the Macedonians, but I never could have imagined what I witnessed when they came over and answered the call to help.

Brethren Brant Lane, Paul Lamb, Ben Brittain and Terry Rogers all took the time to come and go over the preliminary plans and needs, offering counsel and cost effective ways to build. Little did I know what would be in store when they told us they would return in nine months. Honestly, we were a bit disappointed at the timeline initially, but by the end of the ninth month, we were thankful as our church worked like crazy to meet the deadline. Some 50 plus workers from Oklahoma, Arkansas, Texas, Kentucky, Ohio, Maryland, Virginia, Georgia, Mississippi, Florida, California and Tennessee all descended upon Bogalusa, and for two weeks, went to work. And when I say work, I mean WORK. We went from a concrete slab to having our building almost entirely roughed in within that time. All that was asked of us was to provide electricity for our newfound “trailer park” where the builders stayed, as well as three meals a day, which we were glad to do.

We got much more than an expanded building at the end of the two weeks. We went from strangers to family as our church was able to bond with the Macedonians. Whether it was working alongside, sitting at the camper, or eating one of the meals, we grew to know and love these wonderful volunteers who give so freely of their time, talents and treasure. In addition, we held a four day, five service revival led by the Macedonians, which was a great blessing to our church as well.

To say my first experience with the Macedonians was good would be a tremendous understatement. I, along with Emmanuel MBC, are eternally grateful for the generosity of the men, women and children who assisted with the build. Words cannot fully express our gratitude, but perhaps this poem might help:

The Lord impressed upon our church to follow His will, With numerous additions we knew it was time to build.A great amount of work has ahead of us all,It was then that we made the Macedonian Call. And soon they came from all around,To help us get our building off the ground.Men and ladies, both with great knowledge and skill,Offering their time and talents for which we were thrilled.By the time it was over, over 6000 sq ft of construction would be done,And yet, there was not a single day we did not have a little fun.And what about the over 11,000 sq ft of electrical wiring put in place,All this work and dedication is a testimony of the Lord’s amazing grace! The Macedonian Builders have long since departed, leaving their mark,All that hard work, the new friendships, and who can forget the “Macedonian trailer park?” We miss you all and can’t thank you enough,For helping get our new construction in the rough.May the Lord bless in your travels to and fro,And above all, know we love and pray for our Macedonian family, our new sisters and bros.

If you are looking to send some mission money to a needed area, I encourage you to consider Macedonian Missionary Service, and any of the builders who travel the country and world to help with churches. Again, thank you Macedonian Missionary Service and Builders! May the Lord bless you as you have so greatly us!

Jason Hebert, his wife Cindy and boys Parker and Peyton are currently serving as missionaries in the south central region of Louisiana known as, “Acadiana” since May, 2016. The fi rst church plant is called Acadiana Baptist Church and is located in Lafayette, LA, the “Hub City” of Acadiana. He is sponsored by Calvary Baptist Church in Minden, LA, where Bro. Jim Crain is pastor.

Jason grew up as a Roman Catholic and around his senior year of High School began to question the rites and rituals of Catholicism. He recognized that there was no life change in following religious practices and he began a journey for truth. He didn’t have to go far after he was invited to a Wednesday night youth group led by Bro. Wayne Harper at Greenacres Missionary Baptist Church in Bossier City, LA where Bro. Joe Morell was pastoring at the time. He was saved, baptized and surrendered to preach there.

Jason never felt like God was calling him to the mission fi eld but felt a great burden to lead the three churches he pastored to become very mission minded. In May of 2009, he was called to Stockwell Road MBC in Bossier City, LA and began praying about the great need in south Louisiana. Over two

thirds of the population resides in the Acadiana and south of Interstate 10. We have zero ABA churches there and true churches are few and far between.

Acadiana is a very catholic and Cajun region. These two traits combined make this area in the south different from any other place in the country. As he began to pray with other pastors about this great need, God began to make it plain that who better to go and establish churches in Catholic and Cajun country than a former catholic and a man with Cajun roots…btw it is pronounced “Abear” not “He-bert”.

God had placed this burden on Calvary MBC’s heart as well as Pastor Crain’s and in November, 2015 they called Bro. Jason to be their missionary and Reach Acadiana missions was born. It is the hope and prayer of Reach Acadiana Missions to see a church planting movement throughout south Louisiana where there are

cities like Lafayette (population 440,000), Lake Charles (population 202,000), Houma (population 34,000) and assist the churches in Baton Rouge (830,000 and one church) and New Orleans (1.2 million and one church). With the help of God, many souls will be saved, lives changed and many churches will be established that will further help the cause of Christ across the world.

When asked about how things are going Bro. Jason said, “Our first mission point is in Lafayette, LA which is called Acadiana Baptist Church. We hope it will become the ‘Hub Church’ which means that we will prayerfully be able to use this centralized location to begin sending missionaries throughout the rest of south Louisiana. This work has seen some growth in our first 9 months, we have gone from my four, to averaging 14 in Sunday morning worship. We have seen two professions of faith that have followed with scriptural baptism. We have also had three others to join and have several others that are regular visitors. We have engaged in several event outreaches as well as a Blitz and Bless ministry which involves door to door visitation.”

When asked about the challenges, he said, “When we first moved, we were meeting in a school cafetorium. It was a very large space and we were unable to advertise throughout the week due to city ordinances against temporary signage. This made it very difficult. We tried to use Facebook advertising and door to door work but I believe the ‘temporary’ tag associated with the school hindered our efforts. In September we found a storefront to meet in and it has been met with a favorable response. The only other challenges have been the lack of manpower, which has meant all remodeling and painting has been done by ourselves and the few members and of course the loneliness, which most missionaries experience.”

We also asked him about his family and how they were doing. He said, “I am blessed with an extraordinary family. My wife Cindy is a machine and can do anything on top of being absolutely beautiful inside and out. My boys have adjusted

to their new schools and are thriving and becoming leaders. Parker (16) is our worship leader at Acadiana BC and is in a leadership position in his High School choir and Peyton (13) our athlete has become quite the popular kid on campus (I think it’s his Texas accent). We have started a Fellowship of Christian Athletes on his middle school campus.”

Finally, we wondered about the future. “We are very excited about this summer having IMPACT Summer Mission Experience coming and bringing 275 adults and teenagers to do some outreach work such as: sports camps, Lego and video game camps, free car washes, random acts of kindness and many other exciting ministries. We will also be putting the final touches on our storefront in the near future thanks to special offerings.”

All missionaries have needs alongside the regular monthly support. Bro. Jason requests your prayers for himself and his family to remain strong and close together. He also mentioned some specific needs as they move forward. “We will need to purchase some promotional materials for IMPACT and we will also be able to use those things after to continue reaching our community. Please pray for souls to be saved and for us to be able to make a greater impact on the University of Louisiana at Lafayette campus with the 20,000 students. We also pray for God to burden another team to join us to work in Lafayette and with Reach Acadiana Missions.”

Reaching the World in New Ways...For over thirty years, the Macedonian Call radio broadcast has been on the airwaves. Harold Williams has been the voice of the broadcast, and since 1987 has been one of Trans World Radio’s most popular broadcasters. The Macedonian Call radio broadcast is now beamed around the world from transmitters in Guam in the Pacifi c, and Radio

Tirana in Albania, and Kenya, East Africa. English manuscripts have been translated into Mandarin Chinese, Russian, Mongolian, Burmese, and Swahili.

Trans World Radio is currently in a capital subscription campaign to raise 3.8 million dollars for the purchase of a new 450,000 watt transmitter, which will be the largest AM transmitter in the Western Hemisphere; possibly in the world.

With the new transmitter, the program will be able to reach deep into Brazil to the south, and all the way to the Gulf Coast of America to the north.

We are very excited that they are closing in on 95% of their goal, and are almost to the point of ordering the transmitter. The full amount must be raised before placing the order, and then it will take nine months to build, install and test the new transmitter, but we are close to being able to reach many more with the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

We have also just completed loading a series of broadcasts that Harold did on a Study of the Book of Romans, with over 300 episodes, to Trans World Radio’s new online platform, twr360. This means that you can now visit www.twr360.org, or download the app to your smartphone to listen to this series wherever you go!

More broadcasts will be added to twr360 soon, and we are currently working toward adding the Spanish, Mandarin Chinese, and Swahili versions of these programs to the online catalog. This is something that we have hoped to see happen for several years now, and it is exciting to see it fi nally come to fruition!

Macedonian Missionary ServiceIt is with great excitement that Macedonian Missionary Service announces the opening of Evening Shade Park. The park is located just north of Somerset, Kentucky in the quiet community of Eubank. The eleven acre property was donated to Macedonian by the Grabeel family with the hope it would one day be developed for missionaries.

Macedonian Missionary Service along with many dedicated volunteers have successfully completed phase one of the park.

This phase consisted of building a ranch style home on a full basement along with three full RV hook ups. The first floor is 1300 square feet and consists of three bedrooms, two baths, kitchen and laundry room. The basement has a four hundred square foot studio apartment with its own private entry and full bath. The additional basement is unfinished but heated and cooled so those using the home can have adequate storage. The first floor and studio apartment are completely furnished and decorated from top to bottom. The vision is to provide missionary families a place they can use and call home while on furlough or deputation. The studio and RV sites are for short term visits to the area. The good news is that the first floor is already occupied by a missionary family!

The cost to build this phase of the park was $47.00 per square foot which brought the total cost of the building to $90,000. The amazing thing is that the Lord has provided yet again! We have an opportunity to match funds dollar-for-dollar up to $45,000. So, if we can raise $45,000 the matching funds would be applied and the whole first phase would be paid in full. Please consider this opportunity that God has laid out before us. If you would like to donate, feel free to go to our website or earmark checks to Evening Shade Park. If your missionary would like to stay at Evening Shade Park, you can go online at www.macedonianms.org and make your reservation.

The next step is to start planning for the future phases of the park. The long term vision is to provide more housing units and RV sites for missionaries and their families. What an opportunity to invest in the lives of missionaries!!!

in the U.S. in a lot of ways, with the weather being the biggest difference. We had a special luncheon, a Christmas morning service and a Christmas outreach project. Our project “Be the Light” is to collect school supplies and funds to help disadvantaged kids who come during the middle of the year at one of our local schools.

EUROPERomania - George Cormos, Jud Bihor — At Christmas, a group of adults and teenagers went caroling and visiting elderly people who are left alone, or have nobody to bring them the joy of the Savior’s Birthday celebration. We gave out the school supplies sent from the USA to the children attending our church services! We also got the winter clothes packages and we gave them to those in need. Attendance at all our services is good.

Spain - Daniel Estrada, At Alhaurin de la Torre, we closed the year with some visitors from England and were able to share the Gospel with them. We continue to hold services every Sunday morning and we are broadcasting live. Also, we were visited by Brother Joel, whom was baptized and moved to Sweden in November. We are holding a skype Bible study weekly as we continue working and making disciples in Sweden. In October we baptized a couple from Sweden.

Ukraine - Damien Austin, Zhytomyr Oblast — We were fi nally able to rent a building for the Friends in Need ministry. There is seating for 200 people. Our adult English classes are going well also, with an average of 15 students. Several are also staying for Bible study. I was asked to give the Christmas message at a recent Friends in Need meeting. There are usually 400 to 425 people in attendance. I also had the privilege of preaching to the local deaf community. We had a special English Christmas service with a wonderful feast afterwards.

NORTH AMERICAMexico - Sergio Estrada, Mexico City — In November, a young guy we have worked with for 2 years decided to accept the invitation to be part of God’s team. We also continue having Bible classes in the homes of the believers. We had two special services at the end of the year. There were 10 visitors in all, relatives of members in the congregation and four of Erika’s colleagues. Two of them haven’t missed a service in January and restarted their weekly home Bible lessons on Saturdays. I am also teaching in two different seminaries once a week.

Mexico - Juan Gonzalez, Tantoyuca, Veracruz — On Missionary trip #55 to Creel, Chihuahua, three of our preachers came along with me. We left the ladies at home and traveled 4,200 kilometers and had the opportunity to share our experiences with the missionary. We also helped with the food supply for the children’s home. At Fall Festival, we celebrated a Harvest Festival. We had a good turnout with 85 people and had 12 professions of faith. At leadership training, we are averaging 30 people in each service.

Mexico - Adolfo Gonzalez, Leon, Guanajuato — For the fourth time we celebrated Pastors and Missionaries Wives Retreat. The theme was “Women in Construction” and the emphasis was on building your own family. I was blessed to attend the Pastors and Missionaries’ Conference our association of churches organizes. My family and I were invited by our home church, Shalom MBC, where Bro. Victor Guzman pastors, to be the speakers at their Annual Mission Conference. I had the chance to speak to the church, ladies, and youth group, and my wife spoke to the kids.

USAArkansas - Joel Meredith, World-Wide Literature and Missionary Supplies — World-Wide Literature and Missionary Supplies C In November we were able to make the shipment to Glen Knight and in December, it made it safely to Manila and off loaded onto “Rim Nativa”. A pallet of books was shipped to Australia for Ed Brown and a crate has been packed and will be shipped to Tonga in the South Pacifi c. A shipment to Luzon,

AFRICAKenya - Chuck Fernandez, East Kenya —The Churches currently organized are now 27. The Pokot side of our ministry in the Kerio Valley has pushed into a new un-reached region called Karamojo Land. The efforts have expanded to over a dozen new villages on Mt. Elgon, the Kerio Valley and the Lake Victoria areas. The preachers are pushing into new areas like Karomojo Land and Uwendo where Christ has not been named. They have baptized nearly fi fty percent of their converts and have established many new Bible Studies. On the Uganda building process we have constructed our fi rst historic sanctuary at the Landmark Baptist Church of Butiru, Uganda.

Kenya - Eddie Williams, Turkana — In October, at Landmark Baptist Bible Institute we began to build a 25’ x 50’ building which will include a classroom and a dorm. We began furnishing it in December. The church in Nangolipus called David Erukudi to be their new pastor. There were a total of 28 professions of faith and we baptized 18 folks in November. In Nabei we held a day long crusade and 21 made a profession of faith. The attendance was 47. We held three youth crusades at Lokwar Angikaleso, Napetet, and Nanyangakipi, with the youth from every church walking several kilometers to attend. There were 13 professions of faith in all. Six pastors traveled with me to Nabuin in January and we baptized 34 folks and organized them into Nabuin LBC.

ASIAJapan - Ernie Lawson — Brother Ernie and Sister Ruby Lawson have served the Lord and the churches of Japan since 1968 as a faithful missionary couple. Brother Lawson has availed himself as a Church Planter, Seminary President and Teacher, Writer, and Pastor. Biblical leadership succession transpired in November, 2016, as Seminary President Lawson transitioned indigenous leadership to Japanese Pastor Hiroyasu Kida as the new Seminary President. Brother Ernie will continue to teach Japan Seminary classes via live feed internet as a mentor and instructor.

Japan - Shin Kamoda — In December, I was giving lessons on Christmas during English Conversation Class. Our youth group volunteered to edit and publish a testimonial booklet for Japan Baptist Association Youth Fellowship. Also in December, our members went out to distribute 2000 invitation letters in our communities. We enjoyed all our Christmas services.

Mongolia - Dennis Carrell, Ulaanbaatar — In November, we had the fi rst woman from the government alcohol treatment center/prison accept Christ after hearing the gospel from our team. We had a great ending to 2016 and an amazing beginning to 2017. Our new Church building is a three story brick structure with an apartment and is located on one of the main streets. Rich Heart Church painted and prepared the bottom fl oor for services with seating for 55. We also voted to establish a church in Yarmag, sending me to lead out in the work. There were almost 30 in attendance. Services in Yarmag are going well with no less than four fi rst time visitors each Sunday. During January, we baptized six, Rich Heart in UB baptized three and Rich Heart Alti in Choir baptized three.

Thailand - Brent Rosendal, Chiang Mai — Our Christmas outreach was held the Sunday before Christmas at our church building. We had decorated in a ‘White Christmas’ theme and had about 25 guests come to the party. The youth did a great job leading worship and I had the privilege of sharing the gospel. In January, Antioch had an annual meeting in which we planned all our upcoming events for 2017.

Thailand - Rusty Teer, Chiang Mai — We had a great Thanksgiving outreach with 18 guests. It is good to have Adam Taylor here to take part and help bear the ESL teaching load in the ministry. We fi nished 2016 celebrating Christmas with our students and fellow teachers. Rusty and Adam passed out 1100+ Christmas booklets. We had about 20 show up for our annual Thai BBQ. As of February, we have had 11 years on the fi eld.

AUSTRALIAWestern Region - James Carter, Northam — Christmas in Australia is just the same as

island where we always give Bibles and other simple things as we share Christ with them. A missionary journey among eight Pacific Island nations over a period of one year is in our consideration for the moment. Malnutrition and starvation are every day problems, especially among the young and the very old. On the island of Isla de Higantes, we handed out 100 Bibles and Old and New Testaments in the Hiligaynon dialect among the families. Other Bible study books and lessons were given to the pastor of the church.

SOUTH AMERICABolivia - Darrell Roberton, Cochabamba — As we prepare to have meetings in another part of the city, our evangelism team goes to the streets and parks here in Cochabamba with praise, prayer and preaching. We are hoping the house I have been waiting to move in to will be ready this summer. This is where we will hold meetings and start a new church.

Brazil - David Hardin, Rio de Janeiro — Hard to believe it’s been six months since the Olympics in Rio! At the end of our Outreach, we asked each participant to fill out a personal experience survey and write a letter to themselves about their time in Rio. And now, as we begin a new year, I thought this was a great time to mail them back. Some of their memorable quotes: “remember who you work for”, “this experience was so amazing”, “continue planting seeds at home”, “be bold for Christ”, “God was everywhere”.

Chile - Philip Rogers, Santiago — What a joy that the last Sunday service on 12-25-2016 and the first Sunday service of 2017 on January 1st was celebrated in our church building. Our church building is not ready to be officially occupied as yet, so for several more weeks we will continue services at the public school we have been using.

Colombia - Gilberto Pinzon, Bogota — Years of Ministry in Columbia. The Lord has blessed my ministry with more than 1,000 professions of faith, more than 300 people baptized, three churches planted, and more than 70 church leaders, missionaries and pastors trained at the Bible Institute. The Peniel Baptist Mission is having good services and new visitors normally every Sunday. The women from the Mission attended the Colombia Missionary Baptist Ladies Retreat, with the theme “Woman Arise and Shine”. In Nov., Dec., & Jan., we had 4 professions of faith, 2 Baptisms and 4 candidates for Baptism.

Colombia - Len Curtis, Villavicencio — In spite of a number of medical issues, we are still excited and pumped about the ministry in Colombia. God has given us an incredible leadership team, a great place to minister in Villavicencio and prospects of starting a unique and effective church planting ministry that can make a huge difference in the coming years in Colombia and Latin America.

Peru - Juan Angulo Iglesias, Trujillo — In October, the Baptist Mission of Moro invited us for Pastor Carlos Angulo’s anniversary, and I, with a group of brothers from the church of “El Bosque” went to support this mission. I was one of those who started this mission. We have had good results with the blessing of the Lord four people received Christ as their personal Savior.

Philippines has been sent to Subic Bay. Bill Johnson will be printing materials in Swahili, which we will ship to Tanzania, Africa. We helped with the shipping of a crate of building supplies to Nicaragua.

California - Richard Wharton, Fresno — One challenge this past year is our truck. We started a truck fund. We’ll be in California for the first four months of the year and then back east to work with Brother Taylor and then to Texas to help former CA Pastor Steve Ridings on a remodel of the sanctuary. After which, we may go on to the National ABA meeting in FL. and then onto some other projects back east before returning to California.

Colorado - Everett Ledbetter, Metro Denver area — The Colorado field is so needful and wide open. There are thousands of people that are not hearing the gospel of Jesus Christ. We are having to do a lot of sowing seeds as most people have not even heard the gospel. This month, we began having combined Sunday morning services with Missionary Jack Brown in Firestone, CO.

Florida - Chuck Fernandez, Riverview C We continue to disciple several young converts on a weekly basis. We saw 27 folks make professions of faith this year and had nine baptized. Terry brings in as many as 11 van riders to Church on a weekly basis. Average attendance was 48 and first time visitors were 73. Illinois - Ronald Howell, Bolingbrook — We recently sent out 10,000 post-cards to homes in our surrounding communities. Our “Square Foot Fund Raiser” continues to progress and we are $42,000 away from our goal. November averages were: Sunday morning - 33, Sunday afternoon - 16, midweek service - 20, and first time visitors - 3.

Indiana - Mike Weiler, Brownstown — The Wednesday before Thanksgiving, we went to Michies Diner to serve meals to our community. Over 1,200 meals were served to people in Jackson County. Through this, we were able to tell many people about New Life. The chaplaincy program is going well. God has already used me as a mediator and a calming voice in some very stressful situations. The year 2016 was very challenging. We have a plan to reach our community in 2017. #1) reach out to our members who have not attended faithfully, #2) work diligently in the community to invite new people, #3) focus on the importance of faithfulness to God, Church, the Gospel and Community in our services and conversations.

Maine - George Dever, Dexter — AWANA is going well. The roof project has been a long one, but is complete for the most part. Our young people put on a great modern day voice to one of the greatest events of all time, our Savior’s birth. Those in attendance were truly blessed. We have had two baptisms since December.

New Mexico - Jerry Baker, Gallop — We had a very successful trip visiting churches and picking up gifts along the way. We rented a Penske truck and drove back to New Mexico. We had over 1,000 gifts ready for delivery to four elementary schools and also took gift items to one of the local “chapter” houses for them to distribute during their annual Christmas program, at which I shared the Christmas story. Now we begin focusing on the summer VBS ministry. Over the summer, we have six different church teams scheduled for VBS.

Tennessee - Toby Cribbs, Sr., Copperhill — Statistics for Nov., Dec., & Jan.: Studies completed 1,435, Bibles 145, large print Bibles 9, new students 311, saved 13, Macedonian Missionary Service studies 37 and certificates 36. New jails and prisons are Wilson Co DC in Wilson, NC and Training Point Bridge, in Pompano Beach, FL. We have reached into 658 jails & prisons across America with our Bible Studies. We mailed out 15 Macedonian Correspondence Studies, and 8 certificates.

OCEANIANew Zealand - Gary Max, Dunedin — We ended our year with a great Christmas program presented by our music team and Sunday School. We were blessed with hearing of the salvation of a 20 year old lad that we have been praying for some time.

Solomon Islands - Glen Knight, Remote Island Ministries — We will voyage in early 2017 toward Micronesia and are making the ship ready for months at sea and long journeys. A brief stop at Gigantes Island to make a follow up visit where the latest water well was drilled. The water is piped downhill to a collection point where 15 families are supplied drinking water. A gaggle of children always greet us as we drop anchor off any
