Opened in 2010, Chateau Niagara Winery is located on a thirty-one acre parcel adjacent to Eighteen Mile Creek in Newfane, NY. The well-drained, sandy and gravely soils provide the perfect environment for wine grape growing, and our choice of location is reflected in the quality of our wines.
Our winery and vineyard is family-owned and operated. We take pride in handcrafting our estate-produced wines. Our dry wine offerings currently include Pinot Noir; Trinity, a blend of Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot; a Chablis-style Chardonnay; an award-winning Riesling; and our bestselling Gewurztraminer. Nestled in a beautiful apple orchard overlooking Lake Ontario is where you will find BlackBird Cider Works, producers of craft hard apple ciders made from apples grown in the owner’s orchard. The Oakes Family has a 90 year history of ties to agriculture and the land in the northwest corner of Orleans County. In 2003 we planted our first wine grapes. From that initial planting of six acres and fourteen varieties has evolved what is known today as Leonard Oakes Estate Winery.
Our winery is named in honor of our founder, the first of what is now four generations to farm some of the same land. The unique and fertile soils left behind by the glaciers of the last ice age combined with a climate moderated by the gentle breezes and deep waters of Lake Ontario provide us with one of the few remaining untapped viticultural resources in the world.

The majority of our wines are designed to complement food, relatively dry, with only minimal oak and then only when the effect is to add complexity to the wine, never to overpower the taste of the fruit. We also offer a line of classic sweeter wines, crafted with the same care in both the vineyard and the winery as our signature dry wines and a line of sparkling wines, from dry to sweet, to complement every taste and to make any occasion special.
