NHS Highland Disability Equality Scheme Update December 2007 If you require this document in an alternative format please contact Marie Gilbert on ! "# $%&%'()#"#"# *)'%+(,$%&%'-.)%-/0',-+(+1 /2 This Document has not yet been ratified by the NHS Highland Board but will be incorporated into the Equality and Diversity Progress Report to the Board in February 2008 This document provides an update of the NHS Highland Disability Equality Scheme (DES) published in December 2006 A traffic light scheme using red, amber and green to describe progress on the actions from the original scheme has been used. Red is denotes no or limited progress, Amber denotes reasonable ongoing progress but not completion and green denotes an action that has been completed. The updated document then describes what NHS Highland needs to do to progress existing actions and take on new actions resulting from our work so far. Fair for All Disability recently circulated a report on a national picture of disability equality in NHS Scotland. NHS Highland was recognised for good practice in terms of engagement and the presentation of its demographic profile. This updated action plan aims to build on these areas of good practice and also recognises other areas of work that can be improved, developed and promoted in order to work towards disability equality. The priority areas for the next year highlighted in the update are; Engagement Staff Involvement Training Impact Assessment Procurement and contracting This update includes information about the different departments, services and groups responsible for delivering actions and measuring success. The NHS Highland Equality and Diversity Steering group take an overview of the scheme and will regularly review progress and report to the NHS Highland Board and Corporate Team.
