The Stone and the Glory: Lessons on theTemple Presence and the Glory of GodIn The Stone and the Glory, Greg Harris takes his readers on a profound journeythrough the Scriptures as they explore the glorious realities of the stone prophe-cies. The journey begins with Abraham on his way to Canaan; it continues with

the Israelites wandering toward the Promised Land; it includes the glorious Tem-ple, as well as the life of Christ in the days before His passion; it chronicles thestone prophecies in the book of Acts; and it culminates with Messiahs return inglory. Along the way, readers will joyfully find themselves identifying with the bib-lical characters, pondering how they would have responded if they themselveswere living in Bible times. Like a skilled tour guide, Dr. Harris brings the Scriptureto life in a way that insightfully weds biblical exegesis, Christ-centered theology, and practical application. from the foreword by John MacArthur

The Darkness and the Glory: His Cup and the Glory fromGethsemane to the AscensionThe Darkness and the Gloryexamines the cross from Christs perspective and provides a com-pelling behind-the-scenes look at the profound spiritual and theological realities of Calvaryreali-ties that transcend the physical, as the wrath of man was surpassed by both the wrath of Satanand ultimately the wrath of God. With theological acumen and pastoral insight, Greg Harris invites

readers to join him on a journey to the cross they will never forget. Doctrinally sound yet warmlydevotional, this Christ-centered book is highly recommended to all who desire a better under-standing of the glories of the cross. (Adapted from the Foreword by John MacArthur)

    FrediWinklerDear Friends of Israel,

Building the new government in Israel tooklonger than expected. Several things turned outquite differently for Prime Minister Benjamin

Netanyahu than he imagined. The bond betweenthe Yesh Atid (There is a Future) Party, led byYair Lapid, and the Habayit Hayehudi (JewishHome) Party, led by Naftali Bennett, turned out

to be unbreakable, which left Netanyahu nochoice but to include both parties (31 seats) in the coalition gov-ernment.

How could anyone explain the strong bond between those twoparties, which at first glance appear to have quite different goals?Bennetts Party has been a national-religious party since thefounding of Israel, while Lapids party is brand new and appar-ently anti-religious. Yet Yair Lapid has learned from his fathers

mistakes, who formerly raised a flag in a radical fight against thereligious establishment. That led to his downfall, because thoseideas were not well received by the population-at-large.

Therefore, Yair Lapid is not fighting against ultra-OrthodoxJews, but rather against their system. In fact, there are two rabbisin his party who are now members of Israels parliament, orKnesset. One of them, Dov Lipman, who is ultra-Orthodox him-

self, explained his position in his acceptance speech to the newlyelected parliament, and why he is proud to belong to Yair Lapidsnew party.

Dov Lipman entitled his speech, There Are Not Two Sides,Were All Brothers. He began with his personal family history, detailing how he immigrated to Israel from America eight yearsago, and came to realize that there was no unity in Israels culture, only division. The various groups seemed to only be concernedwith their own well-being, with little concern for the well-being ofothers. When he spoke up for the rights and security of all the cit-

Editors Noteizens in his new hometown of Beit Shemesh, he was cursed, spat

upon and had stones thrown at him. He even received deaththreats. That was all very painful, but what hurt most was that itall came from Jews. He also realized that merging all of them, from secular to ultra-Orthodox, was the best way to move forwardagainst those constraints. At joint protests, he called for removal ofthe barriers that Israelis had built between themselves, and insteadto work together toward common interests. He believed that was

the way to improve the collective future of the culture, the stateand the people. He was proud to be a member of this new, boldparty that recognized it was time to overcome the divisions thatcharacterized Israeli politics and culture.

It was also time to bring back some of the old Jewish values. One of those values is that studying the Torah must be linked towork, as it was for the great students of Judaism. Along with theirstudies of the Torah, they worked to support themselves and their

families, in order not to be dependent on others for their support.Even the Mishna (a part of the Talmud) teaches that any study ofthe Torah that isnt linked to an occupation leads to laziness andsin.

By the way, that attitude was one of the principles of the ApostlePaul (see 1 Thessalonians 2:9). One can hope that these goals will

be successfully implemented and thus bring about a real change

for the better in the Israeli culture.Lipman closed his speech with the hope that the Zionist spiritmight return to all Israeli citizens, so that together they could makethe State of Israel an example for all the nations in all areas, andthus glorify the Name of God.

May these high ideals speak to us as well and cause us to do allwe can to heal divisions in order to honor God. In Him, who givesus the will and the way,

    Shalom.

    What frantic scurrying

    there must have been as

    the remaining masses

    laboriously made their way in

    engulfing darkness to sacrifice their

    Passover lambs in the Temple.

    What agitation the priests and

    Levites must have experienced as

    they would have attempted to

    answer the countless questions they

knew would come, while at the

same time trying to execute every-

thing in accordance with the Law.

Yet, they, too, must have wondered

    why the darkness had occurred,

    andsince they calculated time by

    sunsetmust have pondered

whether this was the beginning of

the new day. Had these who had

    been so thoroughly and meticulous-

ly trained in the Torah, and who

had been an active part of dozens of

    ritualistic slayings of previous

    years, somehow missed the

    Passover? Being strict observers of

the Law, they would have known

that God had set the requirement of

    where and when the Passover

    lambs were to be slaughtered,

    namely, between the twilights.

But at that time, there were no twi-

lights like those on normal days.

    Many priests and Levites hastily

    convened, and heated discussions

must have erupted about whether or

not they should even attempt to ful-

    fill their divinely-mandated priestly

    and Levitical dutiesand they

would not have had the option to

debate this in the normal, leisurely

    academic manner. Two pressing

    questions obviously stood before

them: first, what day was it,

Passover or the day after it; and

second, should they attempt to pro-

ceed with the ceremony in the

dark? We will find out in heaven

how they must have attempted to

    complete the most critical prepara-

tion of the Passover, namely, the

    designated sacrificing of the

Passover lambs. Yet, not one time

in history had they or any of their

ancestors attempted to do that in

the midst of total darkness. Even if

    the Levites had carried torches,

    they must have repeatedly bumped

into one another and have been

    greatly hindered in their prepara-

    tions, especially with something so

delicate as the cutting of the sacrifi-

cial lambs throats with the very

sharp knives used by those attend-

    ing.

    But thenmost unexpectedly

the answer to their dilemma came

to them when the darkness departed

    and the light returned.

    But thenmost unexpectedlya

loud cry by a crucified Man not too

many yards away from the Temple

    Mount (Matt. 27:50).

    But thenmost unexpectedly

who knows the exact timing other

than God, as they either began the

    Passover preparation, or as they

    made things ready for preparation,

    Behold! Matthew 27:51-53 present

six (aorist in the Greek) passive

    verbs in succession:

The veil of the Temple was

torn in two from top to bottom.

    The earth (was) shaken.

    The rocks were split

    (Matthew employed the

exact verb he had just used

    for the Temple veil being

    torn).

    The tombs, made ready

    for Passover a month earlier

    by having them all painted

    white to keep people from

    defiling themselves by com-

    ing in contact with them,

    were opened. We do not

    know exactly how many

    tombs were opened; it may

very well have been all of

    them; Matthew wrote only

the tombs, not some of the

tombs. When God shows us the

full account when we are with Him

in heaven, it will be interesting to

see if it were the case that the

    preparatory white washing includ-

    ed what would eventually become

    the temporary tomb of Jesus,

    described later in Matthew 27:57-

    60. Even though it was Joseph of

    Arimatheas own new tomb

(Matt. 27:60), it was a tomb,

    nonetheless, and may well have

    been included in the whitewashing

    preparation.

The fifth and sixth (aorist) pas-

sive verbs that Matthew used did

not take place until after Jesus had

returned to life, and these would

not readily be seen at the moment

after Jesus death: and many bod-

ies of the saints who had fallen

asleep were raised; and coming out

of the tombs after His resurrection

they entered the holy city and

    appeared [literally, were made to

    be manifest] to many (Matt.

    27:52b-53).

    The response of the centurion

and his associates speaks for itself:

Now the centurion, and those who

were with him keeping guard over

Jesus, when they saw the earth-

quake and the things that were hap-

    pening, became very frightened

and said, Truly this was the Son of

    God! (Matt. 27:54). The soldiers

would not have known about the

Temple veil at that time, nor would

they likely have cared if they had

ever found out, but these seasoned

    veterans would have seenand

    feltand heardeverything else.

Similar to the time that the

LORD passed by in 1 Kings 19:11,

where the earth shook and the rocks

were split, those at the Temple

    would have witnessed the same

    things that the Roman soldiers

    hadand moreand no doubt

    would have become extremely

    frightened as well, especially as

they had a more established theo-

logical base by which to evaluate

these events. What terror must have

overcome them! All of the required

    Passover items, including the mul-

tiple golden censors used to catch

the sacrificial blood of the slain

    lambs, would have been turned

over at the Temple. Did the people

get to sacrifice lambs that day? If

some had even started the sacrifice,

the blood would have spilled all

over the place, all over them, and

all over the priests in their previ-

ously clean festal attire. After God

had shaken His earth when His

only beloved Son had died, did

    anythingoranyone remain that was

    not now considered ceremonially

    unclean?

If some of those who had gath-

ered to worship in the Temple were

    able to sacrifice Passover lambs

that day, they would have had to

carry their lifeless lambs over the

freshly strewn debris left from the

    earthquake back to their own

    homesif their own homes still

stood. As is true with any earth-

quake that shakes an inhabited city,

no doubt many people had no

homes to which they could return.

The Levitical choir who had sung

the Hallel the day before on the sec-

ond floor of the Temple would have

fled in fear during the earthquake.

Not only this, but every other

    Passover element that normally

would have been part of the stan-

dard Passover meal, if the house

    itself were not destroyed, would

    have received disastrous effects

from the earthquake. Most or all of

    the Passover elements would have

    been overturned from their contain-

ers. Homes would have been par-

    tially or completely demolished.

    Cooking pots broken. Ovens

    destroyed. Wine containers dam-

    aged or ruined. Ceremonial wine

cups crushed or dirtied. Were other

    Passover elements, such as the

    required bitter herbs, still usable?

    Jewish women of that particular

    time and onwardwho took due

pride in how they had so meticu-

lously arranged their homes for this

    holy convocation that generally

    included beloved family members

    and friendsmust have wailed in

horror and mourning. For many, no

doubt, all was ruined, and even if

    they could somehow find substitute

    Passover elements, not enough time

existed to replace them in time for

    the scheduled feast.

We can reason that life went back

to a relatively normal state rather

    quickly. John 19:31 states, The

Jews therefore, because it was the

day of preparation, so that the bod-

ies should not remain on the cross

on the Sabbath (for that Sabbath

was a high day), asked Pilate that

their legs might be broken, and that

    they might be taken away.

    Interestingly, John just says, The

    Jews, and does not mention

    whether they were Pharisees (who

    already had eaten the Passover

meal the previous night and thus

feared no defilement) or the chief

    priests and Sadducees (who previ-

    ously had feared defilement, but

may not have cared so much at this

    point since so many unexpected

    events had happened). Whichever

group or groups they were, they,

too, would have to make their way

    laboriously over the earthquake

debris as they made their way to

ask a pagan Gentile ruler to appease

them with one small religious mat-

    ter.

Just a quick note: Pilate, who

    wanted to release Jesus (Luke

23:20); who found no guilt in Him

(John 19:6); who already was fear-

ful of Jesus (John 19:7-9); who

while he was sitting on the judg-

ment seat, his wife sent to him, say-

ing, Have nothing to do with that

righteous Man; for last night I suf-

fered greatly in a dream because of

Him (Matt. 27:19); and who had

    granted permission for scourging

and crucifixion of the one who was

presented to him as the Son of

    God, would have been tremen-

    dously affected by these events.

Pilate and his wife would have wit-

    nessed a three-hour darkness that

    they had never experienced before,

and could only have guessed what

it was; they would have felt the

earth shake, an event that Pilate

would later find out had occurred

immediately after Jesus had died. It

would have been revealing to have

been able to observe Pilate and his

wife as they witnessed any of these

events, or to have heard them con-

    verse about them afterward.

But let us consider the night at

    hand; the night immediately fol-

lowing a few hours after Jesus

    declared, It is finished!and

bowed His head, and gave up His

spirit (John 19:30). We will have to

wait until we are in heaven to find

the answer to this simple question:

did the people get to eat the

Passover meal the night Jesus was

crucified, or did they have to wait

until the next month or the next

    year as Scripture demanded? They

could not have eaten a normal

Passover meal that night. Did they

do the best they could do under the

    circumstances, or did these most

    serious and unexpected events dic-

tate that if they could not do the

feast properly, they would have to

wait? We simply do not know

because we do not have that infor-

    mation revealed in Scripture.

    Whether they somehow did

observe the feast that night, or they

were forced to wait until the fol-

    lowing month or year, Jesus

    remainedeven after His death

in total control, for His Word abides

forever. No one was exempt from

    joining the collective chorus of

Psalm 118, regardless of when the

    next Passover was celebrated:

whether for those who were some-

how able to celebrate it that very

night, or for those who would wait

    the prescribed month to celebrate

Passover, or for those who would

return to their homes and not par-

take of the feast until the next year.

    Whenever they next observed

    Gods Passover, the Hallel verses

    of Psalms 113118 were required

as a mandated part of Gods

Passover by the Stone that the

    If the obligatory Passover rituals

were observed and said on the night

that Jesus died, or if people were

forced to wait until the following

    month or year, eventually allwould

say the words that Jesus said they

would say. If they had done so that

same night, a little over one hun-

dred yards away from where Jesus

had eaten the Passover with the

eleven the night before, the high

    priestly family of Annas and

    Caiaphas would also have assem-

bled to observe the Passover, as

they had done for multiple decades.

    Each participant knew the ancient

ritual by heart. Perhaps it went

much slower on this night for the

two who had been so intricately

    connected with Jesus arrest and

    death. Annas and his son-in-law

    Caiaphas had unfinished business

to attend to in securing the grave of

Jesus, but it would have to wait

until the next day (Matt. 27:62-66).

    However, the prescribed procedure

of the Passover feast restricted their

    movements. Did they have a

Passover lamb to eat? As people of

wealth, if any lambs were available,

it would not be surprising if they

had procured one, even in the midst

of the chaos. If the Passover lamb

were present, the ritual would have

been precisely the same as it was on

the previous night for Jesus and His

    disciplesand for the previous

nights in generations past. As head

of the household, Annas (the elder)

would normally be the one officiat-

ing at the feast. Even if he looked

upon the Passover as ancient histo-

ry with no special spiritual signifi-

cance, the specified dictates of the

    serviceperformed by the ex-high

priest of Israel, no lessforced him

to follow the procedure to the very

    letter. When the youngest member

who partook of the feast asked the

sacred question as an opening ritu-

al, Why is this night different?, a

    more teachable heart could have

given testimony as to whether one

was asking about this night as in

    this day, when Gods darkness

had covered the land, the Temple

veil had been torn from top to bot-

tom, the earth was shaken, and the

    graves were opened. Of course,

    Annas would not have answered

along these lines as part of the cer-

emony, but perhaps he would note

    the irony of the question.

    Whether that same night, or

    whenever they eventually celebrat-

ed Passover, God still bore witness

become the chief corner stone. This

is the LORDS doing; it is mar-

have failed to make the connection,

Jesus had put His very own words

two of high priestly office further

    quoted what the multitudes had

sung in the presence of Jesus, and

what He said must be sung before

the nation views Him again: This

is the day which the LORD has

made; let us rejoice and be glad in

it. O LORD, do save, we beseech

You; O LORD, we beseech You, do

send prosperity! Blessed is the one

who comes in the name of the

    Lord (Ps. 118:24-26a).

    How revealing it would have

been to have witnessed Annas and

Caiaphas as they audibly voiced the

    very Scripture references that God

used to attest to His beloved Son.

Did they glance at each other, as

every line of the psalm pointed to

    some previous encounter with

Jesus during the week leading up to

    His crucifixion, attempting to

detect if the other caught the signif-

icance of what they both recited?

Did the eyes of the one reflect the

    spiritual barrenness of the other?

Perhaps each was lost in his own

    thoughts. More probably, foment-

ing disgust overrode all other emo-

tions and reactions that would have

resided in a more fertile heart, as

the two leaders of Israel sang

    divinely inspired Messianic truths.

    Nothing indicates that they

    remotely understood that they had

been an integral part of fulfilling

    Psalm 118:27: Bind the festival

sacrifice with cords to the horns of

the altar. Indeed, they had done

just that as John 18:12 indicates,

So the Roman cohort and the com-

mander, and the officers of the

    Jews, arrested Jesus and bound

Him. Every item was done in strict

    accordance with Gods design, all

performed as part of Gods les-

soneven to two so mired in dead-

    hearted disbelief.

    At some point, Annas and

    Caiaphas recited Psalm 118, and

did so after the arrest and death of

    Jesus. Nonetheless, they did so

exactly as Jesus said the nation

    Throughout the city, and less

than a mile from where Jesus had

    met with His disciples, thousands

    upon thousands of Israels religious

    establishment usually celebrated

    the same Passover meal, following

    the exact Passover procedure. If

somehow only a few, or even many,

were still able to celebrate Passover

    the night that Jesus diedchief

    priests, lesser ranking priests,

    Levites, Pharisees, Sadducees and

    scribesthey would have collec-

sang Psalm 118; not one member

    was exempt. The religious authori-

ties repeated what they had heard

    ing degrees, some had

    even been involved with

occurred the week that He had

Ultimately, for any Jew who was

somehow able to eat the Passover

when the sun set on the day that

    Jesus died, everyone was required

to recite Psalm 118. No doubt, sev-

eral had been part of the thunderous

    multitude that had shouted

Hosanna! on the day that people

    call The Triumphal Entry. The

    whitewashed tombs, something

which Jesus, just days earlier, had

used as an illustration of the spiritu-

al deadness of the scribes and

    Pharisees (Matt. 23:27). The person

    of Jesus had stirred tremendous

debate for years, but it reached its

    zenith during this Passover. The

    finely orchestrated events and the

    multiple quotations of Psalm 118

    only kindled the already white-hot

    debate concerning His true identity

and His mission. No other topic of

    conversation would come close to

the minds and lips of the Passover

participants as this of One who had

come in the name of the Lord.

Even if because of the circum-

stances many were forced to wait

until the next month or the next

    yearregardless of when they next

still had to complete the prescribed

feast exactly as laid out before

The above words were headlined on the web-

    site virtualjerusalem.com. This statement

comes from a man who hates Israel with a

passion, but actually has no reason whatsoever to

do so. He also questions the historical facts of the

Holocaust, and has publicly declared on several oc-

casions that the Zionist entity Israel should be

wiped off the map. He insists that Jews who camefrom Europe and established the state of Israel,

should go back to Europe and return the land to the

Arab Palestinians they had displaced by force.

Why is Ahmadinejad so vehemently opposed to

    the Jewish state? After all, Iranians are not Arabs;

their country does not border Israel. One has to

cross Iraq, then Jordan to get to Israel. Google

shows that between Jerusalem and Tehran, the dis-

    tance is over 1,100 miles.

These few statistics reveal Israels super success

when compared with Iran, a country with abundant

    natural resources, particularly oil.

So, why is Iran so opposed to Israel? Obviously,

    this has spiritual reasons.

    Battle between Light and Darkness

Before we attempt to reveal the spiritual side of

this unbridled hate against Israel by Mr. Ah-

madinejad, lets read one important Scripture

that targets us, the believers, For we wrestle not

against flesh and blood, but against principali-

ties, against powers, against the rulers of the

darkness of this world, against spiritual wicked-

ness in high places (Ephesians 6:12). What does

it mean? Simply that whatever we may see with

our eyes and identify by name, is not the real en-emy we fight against. Our opposition is to the

rulers of darkness, spiritual wickedness in high

    places. Another translation reads, Spiritual

wickedness in heavenly places. Luther makes it

even plainer, Evil spirits under the heavens.

These things are not seen nor perceived with our

senses. Yet they are real, just as there is a heaven

and a hell, a God of Creation and the great imita-

tor, Satan. In plain words, the real enemies arenot the atheists, the agnostics, Islam, commu-

nism, Hitler or Stalin, or our government. Be-

hind all these power structures stands the prince

of darkness, the god of this world. He is actually

the legitimate ruler of planet Earth. That is a

very strong statement, but true because the Bible

says, He that committeth sin is of the devil (1

John 3:8). In plain words, the whole world is

subject to the deviland thats not just recently,

but since the fall of man some 6,000 years ago.Unfortunately, this is an issue very few Chris-

tians seem to understand. Its rather amazing and

shocking that so many fail to realize the words,

There is none righteous, no not one (Romans

3:10). But praise God, there is one escape, and

that is through the death of Jesus Christ on the

cross of Calvary, where He poured out His life in

His blood to pay the penalty for each and every

    sin of all of humanity.

I am ready to be the first human to be sent tospace by Iranian scientists, President MahmoudAhmadinejad of Iran said, adding that he iswilling to sacrifice his life for his countrys space

    MIDNIGHT CALL

    Prince of Persia

Daniel was a person who understood what is hap-

pening in the invisible world. He knew about the

wickedness under the heavens, and began his bat-

tle. How? Prayer! Twenty-one days he prayed with-

out receiving an answer. What was he praying for?

Fulfillment of Bible prophecy! Finally, after three

weeks, the answer. Daniel 10:14 reads, Now I am

come to make thee understand what shall befall thy

people in the latter days: for yet the vision is for

many days. Interestingly, the heavenly messenger

    only reveals very little about the Jewish people;

rather, he passes on important information about

    world-changing events involving the Gentiles.

The heavenly messenger also reports the reason

for his delay in answer to Daniels prayer, theprince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me one

and twenty days: but, lo, Michael, one of the chief

princes, came to help me; and I remained there with

the kings of Persia (Daniel 10:13). Who is the

prince of Persia and the kings of Persia? They are

definitely not the physical, literal princes and kings

of the kingdom of Persia. After all, Daniel was an

important political leader and a close friend of the

king. Besides, it stands to reason that a literalprince, king, or political leader is totally incapable

of opposing spiritual powers. But this is the real

battle in the invisible world. Satan and his cohorts

are well organized into nations, ruled by the kings,

princes, and multiple billions or trillions of de-

monic forces. To withstand them was the real task

of Daniel, and that is the real task we Christians

    have today.

    IranPersia

Why did the prince of Persia and the kings of Persia

oppose the heavenly messenger? To hinder the decla-

ration of the coming fulfillment of Bible prophecy to

Daniel. In plain words, Satan and his cohorts hate

the prophetic Word with a passion. Thus, we under-

stand why Iran must hate Zionism, which is the ful-

fillment of the prophetic Word; namely, the Jews

    returning to Zion.

That, incidentally, is also why the overwhelming

majority within Christianity deliberately exclude the

prophetic Word in their teachings. To be positive,

friendly and encouraging is the message of todays

    church.

Israel is being prepared by her enemies, and we

must emphasize the enemies also for the Day of theLord. Israel is approaching the most horrendous time

in historythe Great Tribulationbut there is hope

for Israel. That is why we as believers continue to

pray and offer support. For us, the Church of Jesus

Christ, Israel is Gods handwriting on the wall. It

tells us clearly that the spiritual temple is almost

complete. Our time on earth is coming to a close; the

Church of Jesus Christ, all born again believers, will

be removed from planet Earth to make room for thehour of darkness. But there is hope for Israel. Daniel

expresses this in chapter 12, verse 1, And at that

time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which

standeth for the children of thy people: and there

shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since

there was a nation even to that same time: and at that

time thy people shall be delivered, every one that

shall be found written in the book. MC

ISRAELThe State of Palestine: How Real?

    The Palestinian Authority officially

changed its name to the State of

    Palestine.

    President Mahmoud Abbas

decreed that the name would be

changed to reflect the recentupgrade of the Palestinians status

    at the United Nations, the

    Associated Press reported.

    Palestinian stamps, signs and let-

terheads will be changed to reflect

his decision, according to Wafa, the

Palestinian news agency. The Palestinian Authority was

created in 1994 as part the Oslo

peace accords and was intended to

be the foundation of a fully-

    fledged Palestinian state. The

    outbreak of the Second Intifada

in 2000 brought talks with Israel

to a halt and its status has

    remained the same since.

In 2005, Fatah, a political fac-tion within the Palestinian

    Authority associated with Abbas

    and the late Palestinian leader

Yasser Arafat, was ousted from the

Gaza Strip by rival Hamas. While

    ISRAELUnwed Israeli Couples Increase

The number of unwed Israeli cou-

    ples living together is growing,

according to a Central Bureau of

    Statistics report, although they still

constitute only 5 percent of all cou-

    ples sharing a household.

According to the report, pub-lished in honor of Family Day, there

    were 73,000 couples living together

but not married to each other in

Israel in 2011. The number of

    Jewish couples living together but

not married is 2.5 times greater

than it was a decade ago. However, the 5 percent figure is still relatively

small; in Denmark, 26 percent of

couples living together are not mar-

ried, while in Holland, the fig-ure is 20 percent. In the United

States it is 11 percent and in

    Italy, 6 percent.

    Six percent of families, or

107,000 of them, consist of a

    single parent and children

under 17. That number is alsoon the rise; a decade ago only

    89,000 families fit this category.

Haifa had the largest proportion of

    single-parent families in the coun-

try and Petah Tikva had the small-

est. The number of unmarried sin-

gle moms rose from 8,400 in 2000to 13,500 in 2011an increase of

    60 percent.

The average family size in Israel

is 3.7 people. Among Jews the aver-

age is 3.5 and among Arabs, 4.8.

    Among Jewish families, 13.5 per-

The tendency is clear; Israel is

following in the steps of Europe.

Although still in the early stages,

    the direction becomes clearer

year-after-year. Things such asGod-ordained marriage between

man and woman, are more and

    more disregarded. As marriage is

declining, we notice on the other

    hand that Sodomite marriage is

    increasing the world over.

For the Church, we read a

warning in 1 Timothy 4, where itspeaks of the departing of faith,

lies, and hypocrisy, and then in

verse 3, the words, forbidding to

marry. That is also the tendency

    24 NEWS FROM ISRAEL

    When Israel was founded [65]

years ago, it was a barren country

    with no natural resources, little

water, and more than half of its landmass desert. The only thing the new

country had going for it was the

    natural creativity of its people.

More than six decades later, the

    Israelis have turned their country

into an oasis of technology and

innovation. With the most startupsper capita worldwide, and the third

highest number of patents per head,

Israel has become one of the lead-

ing players in the world of high-

    tech innovation, attracting interna-

    tional giants to its shores.

From health breakthroughs totechnology, agriculture, the envi-

ronment and the arts, the countrys

    innovations are transforming and

enriching lives everywhere. Israeltoday is playing a significant role in

some of the most important chal-

    lenges facing our planet.

    -israel21c.org

    The article originates with

    israel21c.org, a movement high-lighting Israels technology and

    innovation. The progress and

    success follows toward the final

    fulfillment of prophecy made

about Israel, I will bring again

the captivity of my people of

    Israel, and they shall build thewaste cities, and inhabit them;

    and they shall plant vineyards,

and drink the wine thereof; they

shall also make gardens, and eat

    out of hate.

Froman, ever the odd bird even within the bizarre

world of Israeli religious leaders, visited Arafat inRamallah many times, even at the latters request

when he [was] still confined to his bulldozed and

besieged compound, and was close to death. You are

my brother! a dying Arafat told him. Froman

recounted this exchange a year later in a public let-

ter to Arafats successor, Mahmoud Abbas, who also

became a close friend.Actually Rabbi Menachem Froman, aka The

White Rebbe, who passed away at age 68 after a

long battle with colon cancer, struck up many

    unlikely friendships over the years.

Sheikh Ahmed Yassin, the founder of Hamas who

was assassinated by Israel in 2004 and was often

called the mastermind of Palestinian terror, wasone of them. Yassin and Froman had many conver-

sations, some of them personal. He said to me once,

You and I could make peace in five minutes. Why?

Because [we] are both believers, he told Haaretz in

    2012.

No matter how you look at it, Menachem Froman

was a believer, albeit a tough one to pin down. Hewas a settler and a peace activist; a deeply religious

rabbi and a free-love advocate with hippie tenden-

cies. Protected by guns, he preached an end to war

and, while living in occupied territories, preached

    an end to occupation.

Froman didnt judge haters. He listened to them.

He made an effort to understand them, trying toinstill compassion in them, trying to change their

ways but never by force because compassion cannot

    be forced.

    News In Brief

Finding the humanity even in his bitterest ene-

mies, Froman understood that hatred is temporary

and love is eternal and a kingdom of heaven could becreated here on Earth if only given the chance. When

discussing Fromans legacy, thats an important point:

he never stopped believing that there is still a

    chance.

He told Haaretz in 2012, already struggling with

terminal cancer, If there will be peace, if the uncon-

ventional becomes the convention, all of this wasworth it.

    6 March 3013

Religion indeed is an important ingredient

responsible for the Mideast Conflict, in this case,

between Jews and Arabs. We realize thatMenachem Froman was an exception from politi-

cal perspectives, and an unrealistic optimist.

From Scripture, we know that peace will come,

but only when the Prince of Peace comes. The

prophet Obadiah concludes his prophecies with

these words, The captivity of this host of the chil-

dren of Israel shall possess that of theCanaanites, even unto Zarephath; and the cap-

tivity of Jerusalem, which is in Sepharad, shall

possess the cities of the south. And saviours shall

come up on mount Zion to judge the mount of

Esau; and the kingdom shall be

    the LORDS (verses 20-21).

The state of Ohio has purchased$42 million in Israel Bonds,

    increasing the total amount of

Israel Bonds in the states treasury

portfolio to more than $80 mil-

    lion.

The March 1 purchase is the

largest single government pur-chase of Israel Bonds in United

    States history, according to the

    Cleveland Jewish News.

We believe this is a sound

    investment for the taxpayers of

    Ohio and consistent with our

strategy of investing in safe andstrong securities, Ohio State

    Treasurer Josh Mandel, who is

    Jewish, told the Cleveland Jewish

    News.

    The Ohio Revised Code was

amended in 1993 to allow the state

to invest in foreign bonds, accord-ing to the newspaper. In 2010, the

    Ohio Legislature passed Senate Bill

181, which allows the state treas-

ury to increase debt earnings in

foreign nations from one-half of 1

percent to 1 percent of the states

    portfolio, the Cleveland JewishNews reported.

    The previous highest single pur-

chase of Israel Bonds in U.S. histo-

ry was $25 million, made by sever-al states, Thomas Lockshin, execu-

tive director for Israel Bonds in

    Ohio and Kentucky, told the

    Cleveland Jewish News.

    7 March 2013

    Ohios Jewish population is only

1.3 percent, placing it in 17th

    place; New Yorks 8.4 percent

leads the US. Yet, Ohio is the

    largest single government pur-

    chaser of Israeli bonds in

American history. That, indeed,is remarkable, since Ohios

    Jewish population is significantly

below the average of the U.S.A.,

    at 2.1 percent. Doubtless, the

    government of Ohio sees in

    Israel a secure investment coun-

try. Based on our understandingof the extremely complex finan-

cial world, we believe that Ohio

    is on the right track.

    Here we should read Matthew

    25:40, And the King shall

    answer and say unto them,

Verily I say unto you, Inasmuchas ye have done it unto one of

the least of these my brethren,

ye have done it unto me. 4628
