1) Marjakke from The Hague University of Applied Sciences:

Sometimes I experience problems with our hardware when I want to play the Climategame. We play on school computers and our ICT desk does not always run updates when necessary.

Does anyone experience the same issue?

Do you have some suggestions for me how to prevent these difficulties?

Brainstorm Answer:

1) Marjakke from The Hague University of Applied Sciences:

• Jos and Annemarie from Fontys have the same experience with the ICT desk. They advise to let the ICT employee go to and/or talk to the Tygron support desk and let them resolve this issue. They have the knowledge to solve this, they speak the same language.

• Tygron has good news. The Beta Engine (now the editor and soon also the Climategame) run with a new Tygron Application. All the needed update programs are build within the application itself. This means that the application needs to be installed once by somebody with install authorization. When there is a new update needed, this can be done by somebody who is not authorized. An ICT employee is no longer needed in the new update process and that makes it easier to run the Tygron Engine.

• The last recommendation was to make one computer room where the Tygron Engine is installed exclusively.

2) Ilonka form Avans as well as Jaap from UNESCO-IHE:

I have used the Climategame to everyone’s satisfaction. However, I am the only one who uses the game in just a single course.Unfortunately I am forced to stop the license because I can not cover the license cost with only my own course budget.

How can I convince my colleagues also to make use of the license as well? If we can split the cost over more courses the license can be profitable again.

2) Ilonka form Avans as well as Jaap from UNESCO-IHE:

• Henk Massink (Hogeschool Zeeland) make colleagues more confident with using technology. Often they are insecure and by supporting each other in getting familiar with the technology you can build confidence and convince them of the added value.

• Paul Jansen (student at TU Eindhoven) presents the idea of involving the students who use the Tygron Engine. Let them share there experience with the lecturers and make them ‘ambassadors’ of implementing the Tygron Engine in education.

• Team up students and lectures in a Climategame session. Make them enthusiastic and inform them at the same time.

• Use the argument that the Tygron Engine completes the blended learning theory. Blended learning was the motive of the minor course at the Hogeschool Utrecht and is proven to be successful by the Railgame students.

• Use the Climategame more than once a year. This make it more profitable even whit in a single educational program.

How can I implement the Tygron Engine in my curriculum?

• Relate the learning objectives to the learning-by-doing experience provide by using the Tygron Engine

• Make a good evaluation during and after playing the Climategame. Connect this to the theory that is used in the course. (For example: link to the practice, applying the theory [did it happen and why?])

• Connect the learning objectives of the game to the competencies that need to be developed. (For example: cooperation, negotiation skills, didactic skills)

• A change in the educational program is thé right time to integrate new developments. Make use of this moment to implement new and more up to date learning methods and tools.

• Yes, that would be a good idea. We would like to see more of the Tygron Engine than and also hear more students about their experience with using the Editor or playing the Climategame.

• Would it be possible to make it possible to share games that are created by students and/or teachers among the education institutes?

-> This is possible already. Tygron will demonstrate how this is done at the next event. If you want to do this before this takes place, please contact the Tygron office. Our support desk will help you to realize this already.

• Explain more about the idea behind a game. What goals can you have and how can this be achieved? This is explained when you take the training but it would be nice to explain this in general during the next event.
