• No Portal• No Single Sign On• Too many emails for sharing
data• Needed mechanism for better
communication for both employees and students
• Needed something dynamic, low maintenance and social for both employees and students
the challenge
6
• Old portals are not flexible; traditional portals came from SIS vendor with SSO to SIS apps, but they are not easy or dynamic.
• Old portal solutions are weighed down by a fixed set of features; people want ease of use and choice.
• Traditional solutions take months to years to setup; many Colleges don’t have the appetitive for this level of time.
• Traditional solutions have significant upfront investment; new choices can be subscription based at a lower cost.
the classic story
"Old portal solutions are weighed down by a fixed set of features. Drop the dead weight and get a Lean Portal."
Magentrix
7
• Gartner defines "portal" as a personalized point of access to relevant information, business processes and other people.
• Market contains open source, traditional CMS and traditional large vendors.

• Very flexible; changes can be made in minutes vs. days or weeks without complex coding
• Integrated employee portal and intranet; we retired our previous intranet in WordPress
• Content is dynamic via RSS feeds so it requires very little support and administration, but it provides current and timely information to employees and students
• Integrated collaboration tool which includes department sites and institutional project sites
Value for Becker
20
• Student tiles integrated via ellucian ethos to pull schedule and notification data
• Single Signon to Canvas, Colleague and other systems via SAML
