FLORIDA VAN COUNCIL Minutes of the January 16, 2016 meeting at the River Forest Group Camping Area in the Ocala National Forest, near Deland are as follows:

Leslie called the meeting to order.

Minutes of the November 14, 2015 meeting were read and approved.

There were 10 clubs present (out of 14 clubs total) during roll call.

TREASURER’S REPORT: Linard gave the Treasurer’s report.

NEWSLETTER REPORT: Gnarly gave the Newsletter report and noted that the deadline for inputs to the newsletter is February 1, 2016.

MEETING DATES: 2016

March 5 Tom's house in White Springs.

June 4 Tentative

September 3 Tentative

November 12 Fall Auto Fest at Sun 'n Fun in Lakeland. Election of Officers for 2017

OLD BUSINESS: There was no Old Business.

NEW BUSINESS: Leslie suggested that the FVC sponsor a Vanner's Drive-In Movie night on July 5 at the 44th National Truck-in

®. That's one day before the official opening of

the event, but this would give vanners who come early to go to a real drive-in theater. This is a regular drive-in theater near Lakeland that shows first-run movies and has 12' clearance so most all of our vans can get in. We can make advance reservations for our vans to park together in a reserved area. The theater opens at 7 PM, but we have to arrive before 7:45 PM to guarantee our spots. Otherwise, the spots are available to whoever shows up on a first-come first-served basis. Admission is $5 per adult and $1 per child.

A motion by Art that the FVC sponsor this event was carried by a unanimous hand vote.

VAN-IN PROPOSALS: Rick Chester December 30, 2016 - January 1, 2017 – Chester's Annual

New Years party at the Chester Ranch. $10 per person to cover the Port-a-Potty cost. Covered dish Saturday night - meat is provided, bring a side dish.

VAN-IN UPDATES:

Page 5: Next FVC meeting/ eVANt Sidewinders evant meeting AgendaSidewinders evant meeting Agenda March 5, 2016Date: Time: 12:00 Cost: $15.00 + covered dish Place: Sidewinder’s Log House

Broward March 4 - 6, 2016 – The usual semi-primitive event at Sidewinder's. Be sure to pre-reg. $15 per van. Covered dish. We will have the 2nd FVC meeting of the year at this eVant. Also, there will be a Sunshine Vanners planning meeting for the 44th National Truck-In

®.

ForePlay May 6 - 8, 2016 – Beverly Beach Camptown, Flagler Beach, FL - $60 pre-reg. by April 22, 2016. $65 at the gate. Travel trailers and motor homes are $30 extra. Make checks payable to Randy Fleming. Early arrivals will be from $15 to $20 per night, depending on where you park. Beach side lots and some motor home lots are more expensive, depending on size and location.

GSVR XII September 30 - October 2, 2016 – Flaming Arrow Campground, just south of Cherokee, NC. Hosted by the Southeast Van Council (SEVC). Jim Bulger, SEVC Vice-President, noted that you can call Joani, the campground owner, starting in January to make your campsite reservation for the eVant. Fliers are available at www.southeastvancouncil.com and www.floridavancouncil.com

Florida Van Council October 28 - 30, 2016 – Spookytooth noted that there

was not much news at this point, but there would probably be a price increase.

OPEN DISCUSSION: Lew noted that there was a screw up at the November meeting at Carlisle Auto Fest. The camping should have been for Vans ONLY, not pickups. He said there was a bad showing of autos, not vans, we had 42 vans in our portion of the show. Panda Mark said we didn't get the exposure we should have because we weren't parked in the main area with all the show vehicles. The explanation was that we wanted to camp next to where we showed our vans. Another reason for the poor showing of cars may have been that the Zephyrhills Auto Show was taken over by someone else when Carlisle decided to move to Lakeland. Those cars may not have wanted to come to Lakeland. Let's face it, the schedule is Zephyrhills Auto show one weekend, then Carlisle the next weekend and Daytona the next weekend. With 3 big shows in 3 consecutive weeks, some folks don't have the time and money to show at all 3.

Cari made a motion to adjourn and the meeting was concluded. Respectfully submitted,

Scribe John, Secretary

FVC President

Hope the new year is off to a wonderful start for all .I can't believe we are already into February. Time is flying by and Florida is a busy place to be.

I want to thank you all for the continued support to the FVC and Sunshine Vanners .We need everyone's help in making the 44th van nationals a success. I will admit that I personally am naive as to what exactly goes into putting all of this together, as I have never been able to attend a nationals in the 9 years I have been vanning .I do know that I ,as well as my family will be there in full force ready to help all we can.

I hope everyone traveling to the Council of Councils has a safe and fun trip .I will see you all at Sidewinder's I hope!

Leslie Stanziani

FVC Vice President

Dear FVC. What a busy year we have ahead of us! The Pig Roast in January turned out very nice. Thank you JoeVan for a wonderful job roasting the butts. We had a good turn out for the meetings and sounds like we got a lot accomplished. As the time draws nearer it is important for us all to not get too stressed and be flexible. The unforeseen should not throw us off track. You may be asked to do things outside of your assigned committees.

A good number of us are going to the Council of Councils to represent. We'll pave the way for our guests in July. Fun times are expected with Broward this weekend. The next meeting will be onsite at Sun N Fun, June 4th. We will be doing walk-thrus and best case scenarios after the meetings. Please try to attend so you will have an idea of your working space.

Until then, busy, busy. We are still accepting trophy sponsorships, goody bag and door prize items, and great ideas. Buhbye for now,

CariVan.

FVC Treasurer

Calling all vanners!! The new year has started and it’s time to get excited (if you not already) about national‘s in Florida. We have 5 months now to be ready. We need trophy and game sponsorships‘. But first we need you to pre-

register. I cannot stress how important it is to pre-reg. Take $15.00 a week and put it away and in 4 weeks you will have enough or cut back on your cigarettes ( or quit) you could save a lot. Any way you do it, just please pre register!!!

The Vanners in the forest 2 was a fun time. The rain quit Friday afternoon and stayed away till Saturday night at 11:30. Then quit in the a.m. so we could pack up. I would like to thank Joe Van for doing the pork (great job). The only problem we had was our serving line (circle). Let’s not do that again (sorry blue lemon). Next year we will have to put cones out or maybe draw numbers. I just know we will not have a circle next year! Thanks to Mook for setting up the wood delivery. Randy had plenty to burn and he was doing his best to leave no wood unburned. Everybody got to play with Johns balls again, thanks John. Cale kept us entertained with music and karaoke for the evenings. I will be looking foward to next year.

Broward’s event is up next in March at Sidewinders. We will supply the meat and you bring a covered dish. The cost is only $15.00 so please pre register and make a weekend of it. Drive safe and enjoy life!

Linard

North West Vanners continue their plundering of Fla.

We followed Judith from Lake Wales up to River Forest Campground. Loading the Van and trailer between rain showers made me think we were home in Washington state. The skies parted the clouds went away for a beautiful Friday & Saturday. Warm fire, great soup and chili on Friday night brought it all together. Giant Jenga and giant yatzee was as much fun to play as it was to build the week before. Look for them at the Nats! Speaking of the Nats, are you all pre-registered and ready?

July 5, 2016 will find Florida Van Council hosting “A Night at the Movies” Convoy to the movie in Lakeland. Should be a great time with first run movies being played Sunday Morning came way too soon after a lot of rain while we slept. We packed up and were the last to leave. Followed Cale & Mike home to watch our Seattle Seahawks lose to the Panthers. Good year anyway. We decided to go back on the road and have been on the east coast of Florida. Did the Daytona Speedway Tour, Kennedy Space Center too. Headed back to Lake wales on Jan. 27th to get our stuff together for our trip to Council of Councils in Dallas….. Party On!

The Pig Roast at River Forest was a lot of fun. They have a new care taker. Hope this one is around for a while. He was friendly and helpful. He helped Randy an the guys move the firewood to the fire area. Then, he joined in the fun at the fire Saturday night. He has a nephew in Canada who is a Vanner. Imagine that!

Sure is a small world. He also helped Cale load his music stuff up and posted a lot of pictures on his nephew's site. Randy ordered some wood for the weekend then he and Chet kept the fire going into the wee hours. Saturday, we spent in meetings. It was nice to see so many vanners at an FVC meeting.

Sunshine Vanners also had a Nats meeting. Some of the highlights are...

we have a contract with House Rockers, for a band. Getting Bands to commit or even get back to us where they are playing has been a major chore.

It was suggested that vanners bring strong tie down steaks not those cheep plastic or flimsy metal tent steaks. Linard gave a brief outline of how front gate will work. Cari needs more help with Headquarters. Judith gave van Judging report, van show will be Friday afternoon. There will be a special area for host members to show their vans. There are a few other items they are still working on. Spookey tooth has ice well in control. Final decisions were made as to prices, where to park trailer, and where to put ice machines. Joe is still working on vendors he has sent out contracts to quite a few vendors who requested them but only a few have returned them. Janet is sponsoring a coloring contest.

Cathy and Linh are working on games. Randy needs art for those who paid for ads in the bible. Garbage will be picked up at trash cans, which will be placed around the grounds so no one should have far to carry their trash. We need everyone working on getting sponsors for the trophies. Everyone needs to pitch in, be on security 24/7 if you see something take care of it or notify the person who can take care of it, pick up trash don't walk over it. We discussed some policies for shuttles. Lastly we discussed

scheduling. Sunshine Vanners need to let committee heads know what time they would like to work. We are getting schedules set up. We had to bring the meeting to an end because it was almost time for dinner. Meeting ended at 4:00.

Dinner was outstanding! We had a good variety of food. No one went away hungry. Then Cale put on some music as we moved the party to the fire. John had a game you would not believe the hoops we've put his balls through. As usual everyone had fun playing with John's balls. Unfortunately the fun came to an end too soon.

I know this a sore subject, but again it is needed to be brought up for safety.

When a pets care taker tells you that their dog doesn’t like some people, that is a poor reply when they are in a public setting.

When a dog nips at your arm, or a dog is barking at you don’t try and run. Yes you should watch it, don’t move or turn your back to it.

Pet owners should follow these guidelines at FVC evants:

Proof of current rabies vaccination

Pets wear an ID tag with the owner’s name

Kept under control on a leash no longer than six (6) feet

You must pick up your pet’s droppings and dispose of them properly

Excessive barking or aggressive conduct will require host club or group to contact pet care taker get it under control

- Bob

Editor’s note: Perhaps its time again to review how the FVC Vanners expect pets to be handled; or at least review/ update current FVC by-laws.

I have known many pets to attend Vanning evants that were not too friendly (or overly friendly, nippers etc.) and those pets were kept in the van or away from others and I didn’t know they were there unless someone was talking about them, in my opinion this is ok and feel it is ok for vanning events.

I have been to Nationals and watched Vanners leave because their pets were not people friendly. Sometimes our pets are usually friendly, but it only takes one time and one person the pet may not know to cause a large issue…I have seen it be the pets fault and I have also seen it be the Vanner’s fault… either way, is it not the pet owners responsibility for the actions of their pet?
