Page 2: NEWSTER of FINCHEM & CHEMOSVIT · The development of offset printing of plastic films suitable for small jobs, has progressed rapidly in the last few years. Its advantage is lower

s What are the latest trends in prin-ting business?

To sum it up, it is, in particular:continuous decreasing of job sizes;focus on quality; shortening deliverytimes; new, atypical look; social andenvironmental friendliness, and powereconomy.

We got already prepared for thetrend of small jobs in the past. Wehave rotogravure printing machineswith fast job exchange featuring shortpaths, drying zones, and low powerdemands. Of course, we also havehigh-speed machines, and are able toprint large jobs effectively. We havemodern flexo, and up to 11-colour ro-togravure printing presses. And ourlatest investment includes an up-to-date offset machine from Comexi.

s Why did you decide for offsetnext to rotogravure and flexoprin-ting machines?

The development of offset printingof plastic films suitable forsmall jobs, has progressedrapidly in the last fewyears. Its advantage islower time demand forflexo-plates productioncompared to rotogravureprinting cylinders. Cus-tomers often require hav-ing the new packagingquickly introduced to themarket, or to verify whatwill be the sale of a stan-dard product with a newtaste like. They wanta small volume, but in ro-togravure quality. Offset ishere to meet this demand.

s Why Comexi? It features a central drum printing

allowing the printing of tensile mate-rials. The last station is flexoprinting,so white colour and special varnishescan be deposited here with sufficientcovering power or special effects.

We have decided to buy an EB inkdrying system instead of UV. We area supplier of food packaging films, and UV systems, at times, displaynon-crosslinked monomers and atypi-cal odour. Of course, we are aware ofthe significant progress made in thisfield in the last few years. EB curingmethod has several advantages: nosolvents or photo initiators areneeded and inks don´t need to dry, which saves energy. Inks do not re-main dry on the machine, so no daily

washing is necessary. Graphic data for this machine will

be processed in a new way, we willmake use, in particular, of Hep-

tachrom® scanning of images.Among its advantages is that coloursare precisely matched and inking sta-tions need not washing at the job ex-change, or inks need not be

discharged. Data processing for thepreparation of printing forms is auto-mated, which eliminates mistakes oc-currence. In this way, preparationtimes and reproducibility of jobs havebecome shorter.

s And what about digital printing?Digital printing machines have

been fairly well-established with print-ing of labels. Their advantage is thateach picture can be different, andproduced in different numbers. Thedisadvantage is a relatively high priceand a small width, which limits us inthe next converting, for example la-mination. A too low printing speed isfitting only for promotion, or visualchecking of how the final productwould look like.

s Three years ago, your top-qualityproducts were awarded by the Na-tional Prize for Quality of the SlovakRepublic. It must have been a chal-lenge…

We have been stressing quality atall times. Visual checking of materialduring printing had outdated longago. Now we rely on inspection sys-tems. We gradually install them on allof our printing machines, both ro-togravure and flexoprinting, and pre-pare their installation on the machinesof subsequent operations, i.e. lami-nating and slitting.

s Do you manage to deliver yourproducts at competitive times whilebeing so focused on quality?

The pressure on delivery time isbig. We struggle to enlarge and up-grade our machinery. Recently, webought a new laminating machine fora solvent-free lamination, but we canproduce cold-seal and laminate on in.We also bought a new Kampf slitter, and a new bag-making machine.

We have enlarged our storageroom of rotogravure printing cylin-ders and keep buying metal cores.

The most important, however, is lo-gistics, in every single point: fromplacing order up to delivery to thecustomer. We have been working 24hours 7 days a week, therefore it isvery important to have printing cylin-ders, films and inks prepared so asnot to waste the time in uselessstandstills. Logistics department isamong the most important and mostbusy workplaces in our company.

s It must be difficult to catch an eyeof a customer in such a flood of newproducts…

You can see it in the shops your-selves. There´s lots of various goodsand everyone wants to sell. That´swhy we don´t settle for average. Yearsago we introduced matt-glossy films,

and they have been increasingly indemand year on year.

Paper look has been among ournews from autumn last year, and webelieve, it would sell well in the futu-re, too. We have already printed thefirst coffee packaging with this finish.

We were among the first to intro-duce rotogravure printed winningcodes to the market fitting for directcontact with food. We have solvedthe issue of cold-seal printing ona laminate, or interlayer so the code isreadable from the inside or from theoutside. This year, we can offer vari-ous pictures instead of a 2-line win-ning text. We believe this news willattract our customers´ attention.

s Why should a customer chooseyou as a supplier?

Together with our customers, welook for optimum packaging so thefood is safely wrapped and does notdeteriorate, and, on the other side, isnot over dimensioned and too expen-sive (high barrier which is not neededfor the respective product, too thicka material for a low-weight product,etc.). We can provide tailor-made so-lutions to the kind of food, packagingmachine and customer.

Properties of our packaging arebeing checked in our laboratoriesequipped with up-to-date instru-ments acknowledged by the most de-manding clients.

An inseparable part of our servicesis the assistance of service engineers. They have rich experience in settingpackaging machines, which con-tributes to minimizing waste in pro-duction and application.

s Chemosvit Folie is the winner ofNational Prize for Social Responsibi-lity…

A good reputation of the companyis an important business issue, andethical behaviour in line with the leg-islation a fundamental asset anda precondition of sustainable success. We are fully aware of this, and run ourbusiness in accord with our environ-mentally-friendly policy. We havemanaged and eliminated dangersthat might occur during the produc-tion process and affect health safetyof products. We have introduced andmaintained HACCP system in linewith the integrated management sys-tem of food health safety.

We are among the first manufac-turing companies to adopt ethicalcode defining behavioural principlesof all employees to the basics ofSEDEC code. We are in everydaytouch with customers, and their re-quirements determine our business.

From 2004, Chemosvit Folie, a.s. hasoffered printing of unicodes to theircustomers to support their sale inconsumer competitions.

A unique code can be printed using ro-togravure technology and special, food-friendly inks inside or outside the finalpackaging. This code may bring joy to thewinner, thus increase the sales of the cus-tomer. The database of unique codes caneither be supplied by the customer, or begenerated by random selection by ourcompany in an agreed form, and suppliedon a flash disc.

Lately, marketing and sales departmentsreceived several requests for the upgradeof unicode printers, as the existing equip-ment no longer met their demands, andas Chemosvit Folie always listened to theircustomers, they upgraded the equipmentto the latest standard allowing the printingof more fonts and simpler images.

In order to do this, it was necessary toreplace the complete control system, itshardware and software parts. This invest-ment also included a camera control sys-tem of unicode printing, providing bettersupervision of code placement and correct-ness.

As by now the printing was limited by al-phanumeric characters in 7 height points inone, or two-line version, after the printerupgrade, we are able to print more fontsand simpler images.

Taking into account technical limits andtechnology of the equipment, these codescan only be printed in printing directionusing eight printing heads at the sametime.

Samples of our unicode prints can beseen at Interpack fair.

In 2016, the winnerof this award becameChemosvit Folie withtheir packaging ofsliced Gouda cheesein tubs. Packaging ismade of a laminate ofa transparent flexiblePET film and a PE filmwith EVOH layer. It has anexcellent barrier to watervapour, oxygen and aromatic matters. The packaging is flexoprinted, easy openand reclosable. The film will cling to thetub without the need of additional seal-ing material, e.g. hot-melt. In this way,the packed food has a longer shelf life.

This and other products winning SaveFood Awards are presented at Interpack 2017show, in the area of “Innovationpark”.

It is an original, paper feel packaging in-tended for food industry, untypical for ro-togravure technology. It is not only paper lookof film, but also its touch that makes it special,as the packaging is rough on the surface. Instandard engraving of rotogravure cylinders,

visual effect is obvious, but smooth on touch, similarly as all other outputs of rotogravureprinting.

In order to reach a rough surface, it wasnecessary to use a special method of cylinderengraving. The time of engraving was pro-

longed four times, and thecoating was much higherthan with the solvent-basedtechnology. To reach thepaper feel effect, a special,two-component varnish wasapplied.

Packaging made by thistechnology is fitting forfood products and directtouch with foods. Paperpackaging has a luxuriouslook and is very demandedby the customers searchingfor gift packaging and lux-ury wraps.

PACKAGING AND BAGS WITH A PAPER FEEL

In today highly competitive world, the famous “packaging sells” holds particu-larly true. The development department of Chemosvit Folie, a.s. produced aninteresting packaging that was immediately awarded by Gold Seal medal of thePrinting Association of the Slovak Republic.

PRINTING OF UNIQUE

CODES

“SAVE FOOD“ FOR A CHEESE PACKAGING

“Save Food” is an initiative of UNO focusing on better packaging characteristics andreducing losses of fresh and processed foods. It was joined by many institutions, cor-porations and private companies all over the world. Packaging was evaluated at SYBAcompetition, in category “Packaging of the year.” The competition stresses material in-novation, technology and design of packaging focusing on higher protection of foodsin food chain from feedstuff up to final food products while minimizing packaging ma-terial, in line with the slogan: “As little as possible, as much as necessary.”

TERVAKOSKI FILM – THE BEST SOLUTION FOR ANY CAPACITOR

MACHINES WITH UNIQUE FINGERPRINTS

Capacitor films are typically sold in highquantities, with compromised quality. Whilemany companies settle for “good enough”,that would never work for us. We want our ma-chines to have unique fingerprints. Our qualitybegins with exclusive raw materials and contin-ues all the way to the end products. Thatmakes our high quality one of a kind, as well.

Our current film manufacturing capacityconsists of 3 tenter lines (latest from 2013) and2 blown film lines. We also have 6 metallisingmachines and will expand our capacity with

two more in spring 2017. Tervakoski Film isnow the leading supplier of MET and hazyfilms for power and smart grid applications(HVAC, HVDC); traction control and locomo-tive applications (AC, DC); industry and infra-structure applications (AC, DC). We have alsobeen supplying the automotive industry with1,9 µm pattern metallized film since 2014.

CO-CREATION AND CONFIDENTCHANGEABILITY

Our laboratory regularly runs routine andendurance tests for all main types of capacitorapplications. For example, we recently deve-

loped and launched a brand-new film genera-tion for all main application areas – with excel-lent market feedback.

One of our greatest strengths is that wehave a long history of co-creation with cus-tomers and polymer suppliers. Together, wehave created a complete supply chain – frompolymeric design to converted films for capaci-tor manufacturers. To us, that is the only wayto create powerful, cost-effective productswith a long lifecycle. There are no shortcuts. If we want to continue creating the best filmfor any capacitor, we must ensure that it willalways display superior endurance perform-ance in the toughest stress conditions.

Tervakoski Film is a Terichem Tervakoski,a.s. trademark owned by Chemosvit, a.s.and Ab Rani Plast Oy.

TERICHEM IS NOW TERICHEM TERVAKOSKI, a.s.International BOPP capacitor film expert Terichem, Svit has decided to com-bine its brand name (Tervakoski Film) and legal entity name. The name changetook place on 14 January 2017.

Terichem Tervakoski, a.s. will develop and produce Tervakoski Film exclusively in threesites: Svit, Slovakia; Tervakoski, Finland and Lutsk, Ukraine. The company´s dedicatedstaff will continue working with the latest polypropylene capacitor film solutions and cre-ating sophisticated technologies for existing and future applications – from smart grids tohybrid cars.

The name change does not affect capacitor film production in terms of personnel orownership. Business ID, VAT and bank account numbers will remain unchanged. All capa-citor film customers will also continue working with their current contact persons.

When we talk about demanding durability, we mean two things: firstly, wecreate specific solutions for the most demanding applications in the world; se-condly, because of this, we demand that our products excel in extreme conditi-ons. We are not interested in creating anything less than the best films in theworld.

n Polypropylene films are among the most de-manded materials in packaging industry thesedays. What is their advantage?

It is an excellent resistance to breaking, perme-ability of fluids and vapours, low specific weight, high yield and a relatively low price. BOPP films

contribute to prolonging shelf life of foods andprotect them from adverse effects of moisture andoxygen. They are fitting for high-speed packagingmachines. We can still enhance these properties bymodifying the material to specific demands of theclient. We have years-long experience and knowhow in the field, and co-operate with dominant Eu-ropean and global raw material suppliers. Our pro-duced films are approved for the use bymultinational companies – film converters.

n What, in your opinion, is your strong point? In addition to said positives, it is our long pre-

sence in the markets of Europe. Our companyoffers excellent technical support to customers, including transfer of know-how in film converting, adjusting and setting of packaging machines.Among the advantages is, for sure, our favourablelocation close to big converters of flexible films. The result is a good co-operation with the filmconverter, our sister company Chemosvit Folie, and the fact that we are able to produce tailormade films to specific requirements of our clients. We have a BOPP film production plant in theUkraine. A matter of course is the certificate inquality and environmental management, occupa-tional safety, health protection and hygiene stan-dards.

n What is your main product range these days?We have a standard product range of 3-layer

BOPP films, including low SIT films, matted, white,white-pearl, and anti-fog films. We offer releasefilms, cold seal in laminates, ultra-thin release filmsfor bitumen cardboard, and packaging of productsrequiring macro or micro-perforation.

n What is the application range of TATRAFAN films? In particular, tobacco and food products. Our

films can also be used in industrial applications,e.g. bitumen cardboards of paperboard overwraps, featuring excellent properties and perfect cling ef-fect, or labels of high yield and gloss. A specific

segment includes the production of BOPP capaci-tor films produced in co-operation with TerichemTervakoski of Svit.

n Your strong point with years-long history is to-bacco film…

In tobacco industry, we are a supplier of filmsfor different applications, e.g. individual boxesoverwraps, bundle wraps and promotion packag-ing.

n Can you be more specific?Films for high-speed packaging of cigarette

boxes supplied to the biggest producers of ciga-rettes. These include low-shrink TATRAFAN KXTfilm for soft boxes, medium shrinking film for hardboxes, or TATRAFAN SHT for bundle wraps. Forpremium packaging of boxes on high-speed pack-aging machines with excellent shrinkage, we useTATRAFAN AVT, for printable tobacco film we useTATRAFAN SHTE, and for upper bundle wraps ofcigarette packs without paperboard, we useTATRAFAN LST that provides high strength of the

packaging, excellent look and sufficient barrierproperties.

The development of shrinking BOPP films isbased on an intensive co-operation with customersand suppliers.n Where is your development headed for?

We have been monitoring the latest trends inthe world. TATRAFAN LST was developed for bun-dle wraps, without using the reverse paper, or pa-perboard layer (film to film). By standard, it issupplied in 25 um thickness, but it was also deve-loped and proven in 20 um thickness. The develop-ment focused on maintaining mechanical andfunctional properties while reducing overall thick-

ness, i.e. an important economic and environmen-tal aspect. Micro and macro-perforation are thenext technological methods of TATRAFAN film con-verting used, in particular, for the packaging offresh vegetables and fruit, or fresh bread and ba-kery products. Among the news is anti-fog film forthe packaging of fresh foods, e.g. sandwiches, sa-lads, etc. A matted TATRAFAN MATT LS film is in-tended for lamination. It provides the product witha luxury, matted look. Low melting temperature of85°C allows to speed up the packaging line, or toreduce the temperature of packaging machines. Acost effective solution of transparent film with lowsealing temperature is TATRAFAN KXLSE, in-tended, in particular, for temperature-sensitiveproducts, e.g. chocolate bars, while preserving suf-ficient toughness and seal strength.

n Do you envisage any bigger investment in pro-duction development?

The trend in flexible packaging production isthe reduction of food waste by increasing utilityand barrier properties of films while preservingtheir printability, thus reducing environmental im-pacts. Therefore, we plan to extend our productrange with a 7-layer barrier cast film intended forthe packaging of meat, meat products, cheese, and other foods.

Tatrafan brand mark is not an unknown mark in BOPP film world. We have an over30 year-experience with its production. The company TATRAFAN, s.r.o. is a memberof the Chemosvit and AB Rani Plast Group with know-how and experience in thefield of converting flexible films using flexoprinting, rotogravure printing, lamination, metallization and other technologies to specific requirements of the customer. Mar-tin Ľach, the company director, told us more about the present and the future of thecompany.

CHEMOSVIT FIBROCHEM GAINS A COMPETITIVE EDGE

IN THE PRODUCTION OF ONE OF THE MOST ECOLOGICAL YARNS

IN THE WORLDSustainable development of raw materials, management of indu-

strial waste and minimizing water and air pollution, are among themain topics of every company. Legislation makes the companiesobserve the adopted standards, i.e. implement changes of manu-facturing methods and processes, which requires significant invest-ments. Chemosvit Fibrochem, a.s. has proven its reputation of anenvironmentally-friendly company by winning many certificatesand standards, e.g. ISO 14000, Oeko-Tex, and a meaning bluesign®certificate.

Regular auditing and reviewing the completesupplier chain and processes stand for a guaran-tee that the company fulfils its commitments toprotecting the environment, maintaining cleanli-ness of water and air, and of social responsibilityand creating favourable work conditions for itsemployees.

Our aim is to continue developing and sup-porting sustainable initiatives and to make surethat our suppliers and clients are informed

forour endeavours to reduce carbon trace, andof our knowledge of their pursued environmen-tal policy.

Prolen® yarn is among the most ecologicalyarns these days. It is largely due to its chemi-cal-physical properties, and also its final applica-tion. Low melting point reduces energydemands for stabilization of final products, andfor ironing and drying while in home use. As thelightest yarn, it has a significant indirect influen-

ce on greenhouse gas reduction. As Prolen® yarn doesn´t absorbmoisture, it supports fast dryingand lowers energy and waterconsumption in industrial, medi-cal and hotel applications. Thisproperty also prevents surface dyeing thatwould contaminate ground waters and oceans, thus polluting local ecosystems.

Prolen® yarn is fully recyclable and allows aneffective waste management not only in ourpremises, but also with our final clients. It offersdifferent opportunities of use in other applica-tions and industries. As all additives and modi-fiers are implemented directly into the yarnmass, no leakages are detected in waste waterin the next washing, i.e. they do not contamina-te our rivers and ground waters.

It is very important to mind the ecological as-pect of textiles and clothes, as they indirectly in-fluence the philosophy of an ecologically beha-ving consumer.

Sustainable developmentIn drawing strategy of sustainable develop-

ment for the years 2017-2021, it was necessaryto consider the consequences of all external fac-tors on our production: ecological, economic, technological and social, and thus to eliminate

the impact on our customers, employees, eco-nomy, and our company as a whole.

Among our savings and waste-reduction ob-jectives for 2017 is power economy, and an ef-fective use of sources and raw materials.Implemen- ting electronization in our processessafeguards continuous improvement in all de-partments of Chemosvit Fibrochem. Investmentin the development of water management, newrisk-control tools, programs involving our em-ployees and consumers in effective use of waterand waste management, seem to be innovativeand promising ways of reducing water con-sumption and making more effective use of re-cycled waste in the future.

The most focused trend of 2017 involves in-novations and the next development. Improve-ment of technological processes, effectivenessof ma-nufacturing methods, investment in newmachi-nes and human resources, are the precon-ditions for launching new products consideringecological issues and lack of raw materials in theworld.

Our company keeps in-troducing innovative eco-logical products andmodifications to the mar-ket reflecting the latesttrends and demands ofthe current consumer.New technologies, ad-vancement in consumerbehaviour and growingsocial concerns of manycompanies disturb tradi-tional business modelsand bring along drasticchanges to the existingmarkets. Not all of the in-novations focus on sus-tainable development.New generation of pro-ducts and services meanschanges in preferencestyles of consumers, thusinduce modification ofproduction processesproving sustainable im-provement and economy. s What is the particularfocus of your inve-stments in 2017?

We want to focus onusing natural materialsand minerals as additivesand modifiers of ourpolypropylene yarnProlen® aiming at im-proving utility propertiesof final textiles. It wouldsafeguard good functio-nal properties for activesporting, medical applications, auto-motive or furniture industries.

Our new modified yarn Prolen®Soft brings a better feel resemblingnatural materials. Final products ofthis yarn have an improved water re-sistance. New modified yarn Cellen®was developed in an interesting fu-sion of natural cellulose andpolypropylene, and offers whollynew utility properties for final users.

This year, we introduce a brandnew grade of yarn, Prolen® Spun-feel, replacing standard polypropy-lene yarn, bringing new feelcomparable to that of cotton orwool.

s What is new about technicalfibre?

A specially developed yarnProlen® Composite for compositematerials in combination with glassyarn brings along significant weight

reductions for auto-motive and aeronau-tic industries, thuscontributing to redu-cing green-house gasemissions.

In co-operationwith significant Euro-pean institutions and

companies, Chemosvit Fibrochemjoined the whole-European projectof BIO4SELF in the production ofbiodegradable yarn for furniture, electronical and automotive indus-tries based on polylactid (PLA) fi-bres.

In 2017, we plan to launch newmanufacturing capacities to improvehigh-tenacitytechnical yarnand enlarge ourproduct rangeof technical ap-plications in-tended forropes, strongbands, strapsand architec-tonic textiles. This year, we areinvesting inmanufacturingcapacities fortextiles produc-

tion meeting high de-mands and satisfying allrequirements of our cus-tomers.

s Won´t you let slip any speciality?In co-operation with a significant

French partner, we have developeda brand new grade of yarn namedKinex® that is to be presented atthe exhibitions of Shanghai Inter-textile Apparel in China, Perform-ance Days in Munich, and one ofthe biggest textile technical exhibi-tions, TechTextile in Frankfurt.Kinex® yarn features excellent util-ity properties for sports activitieseffectively using kinetic energy, asdue to minimum coefficient of fric-tion and abrasion, it ensures theprotection of skin from swelling, redness and irritation. The yarn pre-vents high friction and heat forma-tion, thus protecting critical parts ofthe body from harm in top sportsperformances. Together with se-veral important partners and worldbrand owners, we want Kinex®yarn to bring significant comfort forsportsmen, military and govern-mental units and all other users, inparticular, for fine children skin ap-

plications.

s Do you prepare some news insocks production?

Along with the new yarn, we in-troduce a hi-tech collection of sockswith anti-pressure effect, Kinex®Socks, protecting feet at sports andeveryday activities.

GLOBAL 8D PROJECTWE KEEP IMPROVING CONTINUOUSLY

We have focused on the following goals:

n to search for system solutions of problemsto the rules and principles of quality manage-ment, to detect root causes of problems, toadopt corrective measures, to review their ef-fectivity and introduce permanent changes soas to minimize the number of internal non-conformities and complaints;

n to secure continuous improvement of qua-lity.

Modern quality tools were selected to solverepeated and critical problems. We have de-cided to apply the method of GLOBAL 8Dand QRQC combined with modern technolo-gies to analyse and solve problems, e.g. brain-storming method, and 5x method. Theirapplication allows the use of quality tools likePareto analysis and Ishikawa diagram.

The aim of G8D is to identify, correct andeliminate repeated problems. It is also usefulto improve the product and manufacturingtechnique quality. It launches permanent cor-rective measures based on statistical problemanalysis and focuses on the origin of problemand its root cause. In practice, it is being thepreferred method in solving official passivecomplaints from the customers.

QRQC method (Quick Response Quality

Control) is the method of a quick response, and is a strong tool to solve problems in inter-nal processes of the company.

The project also includes the preparationof 8D workflow to create software informationsupport for G8D through complex electronicevidence.

The setting of quality management processin all shifts and all days of the week has neces-sitated the change of structure in quality andlaboratory management, and the involvementof quality engineers from different produc-tions having the best knowledge of individualmanufacturing processes, professionallyskilled and experienced. Their main task wasto solve immediate problems at the time andplace of occurrence, i.e. to perform perma-nent audit in the process of production – inprinting, laminating and slitting departments. The heads are the owners of processes, ortechnologists responsible for adopting correc-tive measures and final solving of problems.Projects are being co-ordinated by qualitymanagers and supervisors.

The result of G8D analysis is Report 8D re-quested by many customers. The project im-plementation is our contribution to improvingquality of our services for customers.

Following the respective requirementsof ISO 9000, ISO 14000, OHSAS 18000a ISO 22000, Chemosvit Folie, a.s. deci-ded to launch a project named: „Solvingof problems using quality tools.“

“Satisfaction of ourclients, innovation andethics are among the mainfocuses of the company, aiming at keeping an im-portant position in trans-portation market,” saidMichal Dida, Director ofChemosvit Chedos.

l Which of the currenttrends do you findmost important?

That the company main-

tains the trend of investinginto the road freight trans-port vehicles meeting the

most stringent ecologicalcriteria conforming to topEURO 6 emission standard. These vehicles, the trucks, are the most ecologicaltransportation means withdiesel-type fuel allowed to

Our employees work inmodern offices and tech-nologically up-to-datepremises. We mind thesafety and hygiene of the

working environment, in-vest in protection meansand stress cleanliness at allworkplaces includingtrucks and lorries that mustbe immediately cleaned asnecessary, and stand ready

for the next use. In everynew investment we mindsimplicity and safety ofwork of drivers, mechanistsand other staff of our com-pany. Each new investmentalso means improvementsfor our employees.

l What measures sup-porting the philosophyof ecologically-friendlycompany did youadopt?

Road freight transporta-tion is strictly controlled by

the European legislation. We must observe and im-plement the rules. An envi-ronmentally-friendlyapproach is a corner stoneof our philosophy, which isalso confirmed bythe awardedcertificate ofQuality Ma-nagementSystem toISO 9001 inwaste disposaland quality ma-nagement system toour company.

l What are your mainobjectives for the timeto come?

We want to replacelower-emission trucks andtrailers with EURO6 stan-dard vehicles so as to sim-plify the work of truckdrivers. In all investmentwe mind, in particular, eco-logical point of view andthe care for employees.

Product range of re-cycled plastics is broadand involves differentgrades of polyethylene, polypropylene andpolyamide resins. In ad-dition to this, the com-pany introduced to themarket injected techni-cal moulds, e.g. pack-ing units, cores, parts ofsteel and aluminiumproducts, etc. “Lately,we have enlarged ourproduct range with re-cycled plastics differingin polymer grades, MFI,colourfulness andfillers,” said JúliusFrkáň, the Head of Divi-sion. These days, thedivision produces 20regranulate and 3 ag-glomerate grades. Aftermerging with BOPPfilms, the volume of re-cycled produce is ex-pected to grow to 5000tonnes in 2017.

“In the field of injec-tion-moulded products,we invested in the la-test fully electrified in-jection moulding pressand a new injectionmoulding form for theproduction of cores. The press was put intooperation in January2017,” said Director.Technological equip-ment for processing re-cycled plastics andinjection-mouldedproducts will result inincreasing productionvolume and extendingproduct range of recy-cled and injection-moulded plastics.

Business in large in-jection-moulded parts,e.g. structurally ex-panded boards and wallelements used for theproduction of contain-ers, septic tanks, water-metering shafts andwaste water treatmentplants will continueafter the transforma-tion, and the next en-

richment of productrange is being pre-pared. This includes the

production of mobileexpanded flood-pre-vention boards cur-rently prepared within a

research project withthe Institute of Manu-facturing Systems andKonštrukta Trenčín.These are envisaged tobe used as a protectionelement from a slowly

growing level of water.Their low weight andfast assembly on any

surface, no matter if as-phalt, gravel or mud,do not assume any spe-cial site preparation.

Two men are enough tobuild a wall in a rela-tively short time. Mo-bile flood-preventionboards are produced ofplastic and metal partswith the main element

of structurally ex-panded plastic boardmade of recycled

polypropylene in 1 x 1m dimension and 8 cmwall thickness. Wallboard is smooth on oneside and fluted on theother. Its weight is 21kg. After the floodthreat ends, the boardsget simply disassem-bled and put into trans-portation container.

In addition to pro-cessing plastic waste, the division is activelyworking on reducingdumping volume fromall waste. “We usemixed waste as an alter-native fuel for cementworks, and polyole-phines for the produc-tion of oil by pyrolysis,”said J. Frkáň. Wastedumping has graduallydecreased; in 2016 itwas lower by 62 tonnesthan in 2015. And thatis, for sure, an asset forthe environment.

In November 2016, the company Chemosvit Environchem, a.s., in-volved in waste management, namely in recycling plastic wasteby injection moulding and producing wooden packaging, wastransformed into TARAFAN, s.r.o. All activities of the original com-pany remained with the division named “Packaging productionand waste processing”. TATRAFAN, s.r.o. also produces basicBOPP and tobacco films.

RECYCLING HAS SIGNIFICANTLY REDUCED WASTE DUMPING VOLUMES

LAMINATION CAPACITY GOTINCREASED

Recently, Chemosvit Folieput into operation a new lami-nating machine COMEXINEXUS DUAL HP SSD. It is ex-pected to produce laminateswith an exact cold-seal deposi-tion for chocolate packagingusing flow-pack system (analternative to aluminium filmand paper). The machine canlaminate films with the widthof 1330 mm and in thicknessesranging from 6 to 200 micro-metres.

RECYKLOGROUPChemosvit Folie is among

the founders of Recyklogroup,a.s., a company authorized bythe Ministry of Environment ofthe Slovak Republic to be res-ponsible for packaging produ-cers. Its task is to secure thesystem of assorted waste col-lection and its funding withinlaw-prescribed collecting, sort-ing and recycling limits in con-tractually-bound towns andmunicipalities.

The new heatingplant stands for a pro-gressive technologywith efficiency rate ofmin. 10% primary e-nergy savings (fuelenergy) compared toa separate electricityand heat productionin separate condensa-

tion-type power plants. “We arefully aware of our social responsi-bility towards the employees, andan ambient environment,” saidPeter Ferjanček, the company di-rector. “In the field of environ-mental protection, we havereduced CO2 loading 7-times,and significantly cut down nitro-gen oxides released into the air,by having launched the most up-to-date technologies. From 2005,our production is totally free ofsulphur oxides, solid particles andwater pollutants.”

The main credo of the com-

pany is to produceand supply allkinds of powerat maximum effi-ciency, ecologi-cally and econo-mically. Takinginto account thegradual depletionof natural re-

sources and growing prices, theworld started the way of BestAvailable Technologies, which isalso among the strategic inten-tions of Chemosvit Energochem.

Within modernization, thecompany has enlarged the rangeof supplied energies with chill, inform of so-called chill water fortechnological purposes, and airconditioning of manufacturingpremises. It is being supplied bya central supply line of ca 60 kmlength directly to the off-takeplace through 14 compact offtakestations. The installed capacity of

7.5 MW of central absorption chillsource ranks the company amongthe biggest chill producers in Eu-rope.

Chemosvit Energochem hasdrafted a long-term plan of refur-bishment and modernization oflocal electric-power distributiongrid, heat supplies, technological

and drink water, sewage anddrainage system, neutralizationwaste water treatment plant, andtook measures to increase powereffectiveness while reducing envi-ronmental loading. Well, the pla-ce for improvement and progresshere is undoubted.

Chemosvit Energochem, a.s. takes a special position amongthe environmentally-focused companies under the High Ta-tras. From its founding in 1934, it has undergone many sig-nificant changes in using the basic fuel: they switched frommazut, then lignite, to natural oil gas used now. In 1996,a new company Chemosvit Energochem was founded thatmade a huge leap forward having built a modern heatingplant with a combined, heat, electricity and chill production,a so-called trigeneration, which is among the top power pro-ductions in Europe. Its business range also includes suppor-ting services for the Slovak electricity and transmission gridin the field of secondary output regulation.

During thistime, it has gained a strong position amongthe entities supporting health and social cen-tres, cultural and sports facilities and educa-tion institutions in Svit and the nearby region. The companies of the Chemosvit and FinchemGroup help employees and their family mem-bers in need. From its founding in 2003, 1268requests for assistance were received, out ofwhich, 755 were accommodated. Most of therequests were approved in the last two years. In 14 years, the Foundation allocated 294 ths.Eur, out of which almost a quarter was paid tocurrent and former employees (in form of so-cial assistance, children camp contributions, support of sports, tuition fees for the handi-capped children, arts activities, and others).

Other financial means were used to assist

organizations in Svit, elementary schools orkindergartens, sports clubs, artistic ensemblesand associations, unions, senior centres, etc.Almost a half of the funds was used for socialassistance.

Last year was not an exception, either. The Foundation received 175 requests, outof which 148 were accommodated. The appli-cants received almost 32 ths. Eur, and thebiggest sum was paid again in form of socialassistance for the employees.

The source of income of the Foundation is2% of tax received from the income of naturalpersons, the employees, 2% from thefounders of the Foundation and other legalentities (which represents 64% of the whole in-come) and other incomes of the Foundation,e.g. a traditional Christmas collection fromemployees, etc.

A four-leaf clover symbolizes happiness andunity, therefore it´s not a coincidence that itis a central motto for the logo of the Che-mosvit Foundation.
