Intermediate Camp:

May 25 – 26th Cost: $17 Venue: Feilding, St Johns A great action packed 24-hour camp of activities and active

learning, for years 7, 8 and 9 from around the lower North Island. Includes: ‘big blow up’, two hours swimming, Jesus times, games, competitions, food, and of course, some sleep.

We will travel up on the bus! Grab a flyer from the foyer.

Easter Camp 2019: Eastercamp was a fantastic time away with 12 young people who

came with us and 4 young adult leaders. We had two main sessions a day – one in the morning and one in the evening. We lined up with 2000 other people for lunch and dinner, competed in group games on the field for a day, ate in cafes onsite, played in the blow up soccer field, felt God move and slept very little!

If you are keen to see photos and what went on – then log on to Facebook and check out St Jimmy’s Misfits.

Otherwise have a chat to a young person who went! Start-ups:

Youth Group begins again Wednesday 1st May 7pm – 9pm in the Church Hall

Waffles begin again on Thursday 2nd May, 7.45am.

THANK YOU! Thank you so much to all who gave their time so generously on Easter Monday to make the unveiling and blessing of the memorial plaque and name boards such a special occasion. With the Mayor and Mayoress, MPs, Councillors, Descendants of those in the graveyard, Parishioners and other interested people all present, I was very proud of the team who enabled the occasion to happen without a hitch.

I am going to name you all personally as so often it is just the “front” people who are named and yet without our band of faithful parishioners we would never achieve anything.

My special thanks, though, must go to Margaret Hamilton who has been working on this huge project since 2012! Her meticulous attention to detail has meant that, so far, when we have been approached by descendants, all the information has been correct. Her research has been incredible. Also my thanks to her daughter, Julie, who helped so much on the day.

My thanks to Warwick Johnston whose knowledge of early Lower Hutt has been inspiring. His accuracy and constant research has taught us much and has allowed us to record more of early St James.

My thanks to Margaret Miller who, with the loyal and constant help of Margaret Anderson, Sue Barlow, Raewyn Berkahn, Judy Cameron, Beryl Glanville, Peggy Roberts and Lynne-Elizabeth St Clair, set up and served such an amazing afternoon tea and then cleaned up after the event; to Kirsty Miller for the beautiful table arrangements, and to all those who baked a wonderful assortment of food. The Hall looked so inviting and everyone received such a warm welcome. I think it could be noted here that we need to “train” others under these wonderful people so that some of them can have a well-deserved rest and, for once, sit back and be waited on for a change.

My thanks to Amanda and Murray Wills who organised the sound system under fairly trying circumstances, and with a watchful eye on the weather. Everyone could hear clearly which is not always easy outside. Also my thanks to Mike Deacon, Property Manager of the Family Centre, who enabled us to access power from the Family Centre.

My thanks to Graeme Ross for playing the Bells at the start of the event.

My thanks to Mark Stone and Sheldon Williams for traffic control and assistance.

My thanks to Ema for her Karanga—so appreciated, as always.

And my thanks to Peter, who years ago committed us to this project (admittedly not really realising the massive undertaking it would require!) but who has assisted, and supported us, every step of the way.

Please visit the graveyard and give thanks for all those from our church family, and community, who have given us so much over years of faithful service. We are truly blessed.

Liz Friend.
