Reading CountsBy: Joe Carroll

The more you read, the more points you get. You can read tiny books while you are working on a big book, that way you’ll get more points.

If you don’t think you can read a lot, set a manageable goal, like 50 points. Then, if you reach it, set a higher goal. It also helps to set a goal each week. I try for 5 points and 10,000 words each week. It is working for me because the tiny books are easy. If you get these done at the beginning of the week, then you are done and you get to start your big books. Keep reading!

1-2 Book ReviewInterrupting ChickenWritten by David Ezra SteinReviewed by Madison Oreski

Once there was a family of chickens. And for the little red chicken, it was time for a bedtime story. Unfortunately for the little chicken and his Papa, he was a little chicken who liked to interrupt stories. So when it was time for the story to begin, little chicken promised that he would not interrupt the story.

Will the interrupting chicken get through story time without interrupting any stories? What will happen to little chicken if he doesn’t? Read this book to find out.

Flora and UlyssesWritten By Kate DiCamilloReviewed by Madison Oreski

One day, a girl named Flora Buckman was in her room, when she heard a very loud and peculiar noise. She looked out the window and saw her neighbor, Mrs. Tickham, vacuuming her yard with something called The Ulysses 2000x. Anyway, Flora was watching Mrs. Tickham and the “maniac vacuum” run around the yard, when it happened.

The Ulysses 2000x was running straight toward a squirrel, and lightning quick, the squirrel was slurped up into the vacuum. When the squirrel was retrieved, another amazing thing

happened. The squirrel picked the vacuum off the ground! Flora was almost completely convinced that the squirrel was a superhero. He is a squirrel, she thought, he will conquer villains of all kinds. He will become known as Ulysses!

Do you want to find out about all the adventures and discoveries of Flora and Ulysses? If you do, read this hilarious and action packed story of Flora and Ulysses!!!

Student Council By Bobbo Chambers

Hi I’m Bobbo, and I am your treasurer. I’m going to tell you about Student Council. I am going to give you a sneak peak about what we are doing. The student council officers are making POSTERS about what we look like and what our office would look like, so that you will know who we are and what our responsibilities are.

We are starting to think about what projects we should work on this year. We are already holding a food drive for the needy. We also escorted parents to classrooms during American Education Week. Look for our posters, soon!

Word of the MonthThe word of the month is teamwork.By Reilly O’Donnell

Teamwork is the word of the month. If you want to be student of the month, then you should read on. Teamwork is something you do with your partner to get an assignment done. That means working together on your project. If you work together, then I’m sure you will be student of the month.

If you’re not so good at working together, then you’re not ready for student of the month. So work together to be student of the month, but don’t just use teamwork to be student of the month; you really have to mean it to win.

Show You CareThis month at Aston Elementary, students will be collecting food for people in need. Bring in cans or boxes of food to help. City Team will distribute it to people who don’t have enough food to eat this winter.

Green CornerBy: Ashley Jirak

Have you ever heard the phrase reduce, reuse, and recycle? Well, if you haven’t, I will tell you what they mean. To reduce means to do something to throw away less trash. Reuse means to use something again, and recycle means to remake something. Do you know any ways that you can reduce what you send to a landfill? First, instead of buying individually wrapped stuff you could buy a big bag of something. You can put individual portions in a reusable container. That way you can reduce the amount of packaging you use. You could also use a water bottle that you fill with tap water instead of buying plastic water bottles. You can reuse items, too. For example, when you go shopping and the worker gives you a plastic bag, instead of throwing it away you could put it in your pantry and save it for another time. You can start a paper recycling program at your church or school. Here are some ways that you can help the earth. First, you could have a lunch with things that you can reduce, reuse, and recycle. Second, you could have a whole day of making decorations out of things that you reused. Third, you could have your birthday party theme as recycling and have all the activities related to reducing, reusing, and recycling. Now when you look around your house you can say I reused, I reduced, and I recycled.

Speaking of Recess… Here’s an ideaWhen you are playing out at recess, try to choose players with the same ability level as you. You will have more fun if you are evenly matched!

Travel SectionCherry Crest Adventure FarmBy Pige Suter

Cherry Crest Adventure Farm is a fun place to visit in Lancaster. There are many activities to do. There is a gigantic corn maze to explore. There are places to stop for fun during the maze. You can swing on ropes or climb through the tricky nets. In the courtyard, you can visit the baby chick hatchery and hold the chicks! In the barnyard, you’ll see the singing chicken show, ride giant slides, and jump on huge pillows like a trampoline. You can play the Barnyard Ball-cade, Giant Slinger game, or test your strength at the Post Pounder game. You can even enjoy a wagon ride through the cornfield.

Afterwards, cool down with fresh-squeezed lemonade or have some hand-dipped ice-cream. There are a lot more goodies to enjoy during your visit. Don’t miss out on the fun at Cherry Crest Adventure Farm!

5 servings of fruits and vegetables each day +

1 hour of physical activity each day +

0 sweetened drinks = a healthier body

Sweetened drinks can be bad for you because they have high fructose corn syrup and a lot of sugar, which is bad for you. But you should really stay away from the corn syrup because it makes you want to eat more.

“Screen time” is time spent sitting or lying in front of your TV or computer. Instead of sitting around, get up and get moving. Any kind of physical activity counts:

Go for a walk, play with your dog, ride your bike. Get outside and get moving.

November Funby Rachel Jason

November

November is when you celebrate Thanksgiving and have fun!

You eat a whole lot of turkey, let's stuff that lug! You drink apple cider and bob for apples.

You see red, orange, and brown leaves shifting through the turquoise sky.

November is also when you jump, dive, and tackle in leaves and climb trees!

It's when you're playing outside and your Mom calls you in,

Five more minutes, you say. November is when you celebrate with your family

I love the month of November!!
