Volume 7 Issue 1 12 February 2021 Newsletter
From The Principal’s Desk
Dear Parents,
Welcome Back!
Welcome back to 2021! I start this year with a sense of gratitude for the educational support for our young
learners in 2020 in so many different ways. I also share with you my faith and commitment for what we will
accomplish together in the coming year in support of valuable learning experiences for the students that we
serve.
While we successfully managed the many challenges from last year, it also served to sharpen our focus on
what was important; our family, our health, and the children and young people in our care. From that, we
changed the way we lived and worked.
Looking ahead we may continue to face uncertainty and risk in terms of COVID-19. It is possible that there
will be ongoing innovation and different prospects. As always, challenges provide us with
opportunities….and rewards!
As you’d be aware, before students even arrive in classrooms on day one, it takes the community of support
staff to ensure our school is ready. Processing enrolments, communicating, reassuring and welcoming
families, cleaning schools, and installing our new buildings and furniture, and of course planning and
classroom preparation. Many staff worked through the school holiday period in getting us ready for the
school year—so thank you to everyone concerned.
I’m confident that you enjoyed a warm welcome on your return to our school and your classroom.
Our young people are central to all that we do and every decision we make. From planning the first week of
lessons, to implementing our state-wide education initiatives. Our visions remains sharply in focus as we
continue to ‘Create a Community of Learners’.

Fundraising
Container Deposit Scheme
Drop off every Monday 0820 — 0840
Golden Bay Primary School and our Parents & Citizens Association have partnered with ScoutsWA to collect
eligible drink containers under the containers for change scheme. Eligible plastic, aluminium and glass drink
containers have a 10 cents refund logo clearly printed on them. All containers collected will raise valued funds
for our P & C to support school projects and activities.
The scheme commences in October and we will be receiving donations of containers from the commencement
of term 4. Initially, there will be an opportunity to drop off eligible containers on Monday mornings between
0820 and 0840. The drop off point is outside Block 4. If demand increases, we will add extra drop off times.
Another way you can support this fundraising initiative is by sharing our unique Scheme ID with family and
friends. This enables people to drop off containers at any collection point across Western Australia and have
the refund amount credited to our P & C. The Scheme ID for Golden Bay P & C is C10282958. Just quote this
code when dropping off your containers.
We hope this new initiative will be a great source of fundraising for our school. Importantly it will reduce items
going to landfill and increase our sustainable use of resources!

School Banking day is Wednesday
Remember, Wednesday is School Banking day between 8:20 — 8:40am in the undercover area.
Students should bring in their weekly deposit to the undercover area.
For every deposit made at school, students will receive a Silver Dollar Mites token. Once students
have individually collected 10 tokens they can redeem them for an exclusive School Banking reward
item in recognition of their regular saving habits.
School Banking is also a great fundraiser for our school. Our school receives a Regular Savers
contribution of $5 for every 10 deposits processed per student as well as an Annual Contribution
which is based on the number of students who made at least one School Banking deposit in the
prior year.
If your child has lost their book they can bring their money to school in a sealed envelope with a note
and on the next banking day we will issue them with a replacement.
Thank you for supporting the school banking program at Golden Bay Primary School. We would also
like to thank the wonderful parents who volunteer as our School Banking Co—coordinators and
process our banking every week.
