The EPON/GEPON standard uses Gigabit Ethernet with symmetric speeds downstream and upstream. GPON (Gigabit Passive Optical Network) was developed to provide higher downstream speeds than upstream. GPON provides larger splitting ratios, higher up- and downstream data rates, longer reach, improved privacy and security through the use of the Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) algorithm. GPON adopts two multiplexing techniques: · In Downstream direction(OLT to Users) · In upstream direction(Users to OLT) Where in downstream direction, i.e., from OLT to user's data packs are transmitted in broadcast manner and in upstream i.e, from users to OLT it is done in TDMA manner. GPON deploys two different wavelength channels for upstream and downstream communication. The upstream and downstream wavelength channels operate at 1310 nm and 1490 nm, respectively. Several upstream and downstream data rates are specified for GPON, with a maximum data rate of 1.244 Gb/s in the upstream direction and 2.488 Gb/s in the downstream direction. The reach of a GPON network can be as high as 60 km, whereby the differential reach between optical network units (ONUs) must not exceed 20 km. GPON STANDARDS FOR FTTH NETWORK

FTTH,the Fiber To The Home network configured by the establishment of complete link from a central office OLT(Optical Line Terminal) to ONT(Optical network

terminal) with optical fiber where ONT is installed in the customer premises, where an ONU device may be located in a basement of a multidwelling unit and be shared by

a small number of users at that site.

The most common PON standards in current use are EPON/GEPON (based on IEEE 802.3ah) and GPON (ITU-T G.984). The EPON/GEPON standard uses Gigabit

Ethernet with symmetric speeds downstream and upstream. GPON (Gigabit Passive Optical Network) was developed to provide higher downstream speeds than

upstream. GPON has the capability to transport Ethernet, ATM and TDM (including PSTN, ISDN, E1 and E3) traffic using the GEM (GPON Encapsulating Method) for

carrying synchronous voice services and data services . GPON provides larger splitting ratios, higher up- and downstream data rates, longer reach, improved privacy and

security through the use of the Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) algorithm. GPON adopts two multiplexing techniques:

· In Downstream direction(OLT to Users)

· In upstream direction(Users to OLT)

Where in downstream direction, i.e., from OLT to user's data packs are transmitted in broadcast manner and in upstream i.e, from users to OLT it is done in TDMA manner.

GPON deploys two different wavelength channels for upstream and downstream communication. The upstream and downstream wavelength channels operate at 1310

nm and 1490 nm, respectively. Several upstream and downstream data rates are specified for GPON, with a maximum data rate of 1.244 Gb/s in the upstream direction and

2.488 Gb/s in the downstream direction. The reach of a GPON network can be as high as 60 km, whereby the differential reach between optical network units (ONUs)

must not exceed 20 km. The ITU-T recommendations for GPON allow for a splitting ratio of up to 128.

GPON wavelength allocated is defined by the ITU_T G.984.x series which defines the generic requirement for FTTH architecture establishment

LIGHTSIM Simulations

Laser diodes are semiconductor devices emitting coherent light. They are the most frequently used as optical sources and are called “wonderful little devices.” Their small size, efficiency and their long lifetime make them a component for multiple applications.

Using our Light SIM simulation software PI characteristics of LASERS can be graphically studied by the plot of Output Power Vs Drive Current.

Bangalore Technology Expo and Innovator and Investor Meet

Fiber Optika had exhibited at Technology Expo and an Innovator -Investor Meet on 15th October at Bangalore. The event was Jointly organized by FICCI with the Department of Science and Technology (Govt. of India); Lockheed Martin Corporation. Live demonstration of our products Light Runner and LightSIM was carried out at the event.

Eminent People from Scientific Community and Industry had attended the meet.
