A number of past teaching and support staff attended the assembly as well which was really appreciated by the

school community.

The students from the 1986 Reception classes were also invited but due to work commitments or not living

locally anymore there was only one student who could attend. This student was Andrew Sporn and what made

this even more special was that his daughter Abby is currently in Reception. Andrew and Abby led the parade of

the current Receptions partnered with the Year 7’s who had attended the school since Reception to open the

assembly. The school community would like to thank Andrew for agreeing to be part of the day.

During the assembly there was a singing item from one of the Reception Classes, a dance item from a Year 3

class and a group of Year 7’s all of whom had attended the school since Reception. They shared some of their

memories and did a fantastic job. Another highlight was a speech by Sharon Mann, one of the current Indonesian

teachers who was also a student at the school when it moved in 1986. Sharon joined in the fun of the moment by

dressing in a school uniform which the students and staff just loved.

Following the assembly there was morning tea held in the staffroom where the invited guests were able to share

their memories with current staff. A display of memorabilia was set up in the library and many of the guests,

parents and students took the opportunity to look at this.

The day of celebration concluded in the evening with drinks and nibbles for current and past staff held at the

Victor Harbor Golf Club.

Still to come to recognise the 30 years is the compiling of a year book and a wooden bench made at Encounter

Centre, kindly donated by the Encounter Bay Rotary Club. The bench will be located near the new building

currently under construction. A big thankyou to the organising committee, Julie Kelly, Jayne Reilly, Jeanette

Vickery-Howe, Andrea Moses-Muir & Donna Turner.

CARNIVAL DAY

Junior Primary On Friday of week 1 we had a School Carnival for our 30 year school birthday. It was so much fun! Our class

had a stall called Lucky Ducks. You had to catch a lucky duck to win a prize.

Mrs Kelly’s class had Jelly Cups and Ms Andrea had iced biscuits to sell. Mrs Crickmar made playdough and th

Jack in the Beanstalk cups and a ‘Knock-em-down’ stall. Rena Kwong

“I won a special Duck at the school fair”. Dakoda

“I had lots of fun”. Dimitri.

‘I got a jelly cup and a Freddo Frog’. Ella

Middle Primary

"The 30th Birthday Lunch Time Carnival saw a variety of stalls including Karaoke, Jack in the Beanstalk Plants,

Jars-R-Us, Face Painting and the Haunted House.

It was a huge success raising money for our local R.S.L club to go towards buying a flag pole.

The kids enjoyed visiting the range of stalls put on by the whole school.

Well done by all.

Miss Leila and Ms Ball"

Upper Primary

Our class did face painting as our stall. It was very successful but lots of work. The most popular would have to

have been the moustaches and the narwhal. Mr Camac’s class made cupcakes and sold them, they were very

yummy. Mr Crickmar’s class sold ice-creams and they were so good that they ran out. Mr Irvin’s second hand

toy stall was popular as was Mrs Niven’s target games, The success of the day was due to the variety of stalls

and the great weather. A fun day all round. Emma

SCHOOL PHOTOS ANDREW MCDONALD—VISITING AUTHOR

Last week we were very fortunate to have the author, Andrew

McDonald in the library working with students from Year

Three to Year Seven. Andrew has written two books, ‘The

Greatest Blogger in the World’ and ‘Son of Death.’ He had the

students all enthusiastic to write and read. In fact the race was

on to be the first to borrow his books from the library. Here is

what some of the students had to say about Andrew’s visit.

Cody: Andrew was humorous and kind of serious at the same

time. His books have great story lines.

Hayley: The main message was put more thought into your

writing. Don’t make it boring, be more expressive with your

choice of words.

Hannah: Andrew gave us a lot of help with writing about an

extreme sport. He gave us lots of ideas on how to improve our

writing.

Lachlan and Jayden: Andrew was funny and cool. He had a

great hook to reel you in. The only limit is your imagination. He

gave us inspiration to write.

School Photos will be taken at our school

on the 15th & 16th June. We are proud that the country’s leading school

photographer, MSP Photography will be taking our school

photos.

Parents can send the money to the school in the

envelope supplied however On-Line Ordering, where

parents are able to select their preferred

package online makes it much easier for our parent

community.

In 2016 the range of options available to you online has

increased. As well as the option to download a Low

Resolution image for a smart-phone, parents will have the

option to purchase a High Resolution Digital Download of

their child’s image and Family/Sibling packages will also

be able to be ordered online!

An added incentive for our families is that MSP now offers a

10% discount for all family orders above $90.00 a family.

A reminder that this car park is only for staff and par-

ents who have Disability Parking Permit. Also please

do not use this car park as a walk through with your

children at any time of the day in particular walking up

or down the driveway where the boom gate is. This is a

huge safety issue with cars driving in and out or revers-

ing from their actual park. The preferred way to exit or

enter is to go through the gate at Kiss and Drop and

walk along the path if you are leaving or if entering go

through the gate and past the Bali Hut.

Thanks Julie &Brenton

Many of our parents and guardians volunteer at our school/preschool/service to support their child’s learning.

To make it easier for parents and guardians to volunteer

their time, the Department for Education and Child Devel-opment has updated its relevant history screening policy and procedures.

As a result, parents and guardians who volunteer to directly

support their child will no longer require a relevant history screening.

This will mean many of our volunteers can help out sooner.

A screening is still necessary for parents and guardians who

are volunteering at school camps and sleep overs, as well as those hosting billets and homestay students.

As has always been the case, a screening is not needed to attend single events or activities at our school/preschool/

service. These include concerts, fundraisers, swimming week or sports day.

Screenings are just one measure used to help keep children safe. Everyone who works with children plays a part in

child protection, including watching out for inappropriate behaviour.

Find out more about relevant history screening and keeping

children safe at www.decd.sa.gov.au.

If you have any questions about screening or these changes, please speak with school staff.
