I am very excited to celebrate the fall semester with you. LSC-North Harris has a wonderful culture dedicated to serving others. Our great faculty and staff throughout the college are committed to quality instruction and workforce preparation. We are here to help you find your way around and answer any questions or concerns you may have. Whether it is taking the extra time to meet after class to explain an assignment or donating items to aid displaced students during the Tax Day flooding last April, our students and their success will always be our top priority. LSC-North Harris offers more than 160 degree and certificate programs to choose from, more than 50 clubs and organizations to participate in, as well as academic and student support services to help with tutoring, job placement assistance and transfer or career counseling. Here, we all are dedicated to providing high-quality educational opportunities that prepare students, whether they want to transfer to a four-year college or begin a new career. We continue to grow our programs and expand our facilities. This summer, we held a groundbreaking for our state-of-the-art Construction and Skilled Trades Technology Center which will house workforce programs, making our graduates not only highly marketable, but industry-ready. Our third satellite campus, located in East Aldine and slated to open in fall 2018, will provide more access to higher education to better serve students and residents in the community. As you can see, you do not have to travel far to reap the benefits of a college education. LSC-North Harris and its centers offer extracurricular activities, scholarships and networking activities, along with opportunities for personal development and growth. The Honors College offers top-achieving students the advantages of a “college within a college,” while still providing access to the extensive benefits available through LSC-North Harris. This research-based program offers a wide range of opportunities for honors students each semester—from international travel, to small interactive classes with dedicated Honors faculty, to attendance at prestigious academic research conferences.

The Honors College is open to new or returning students with one of the following:

• High school GPA of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale

• SAT score of 1150 or higher (combined math and reading)

• ACT score of 26 or higher composite score

• 3.25 GPA with nine or more college credit hours

Student Life is committed to enhancing students’ academic programs of study and their overall educational experience through development of, exposure to, and participation in social, cultural, intellectual and recreational activities. Throughout the year, students participate in campus festivals, concerts, lectures and sporting events, all designed to help them have a well-rounded college experience. The safety and security of our LSC-North Harris community is a top priority. Our campus police offer a comprehensive public safety program for the college and maintain a visual presence on campus. Their focus is on preventative patrols and crime prevention, in addition to police services. Uniformed officers also provide walking escorts to students, employees and visitors anywhere on campus. Smoke-Free EnvironmentLSC-North Harris and its centers are tobacco, e-cigarette and smoke-free campuses.

Open Carry/Campus Carry LawAlthough “Campus Carry” legislation (SB11) is now in effect at state colleges and universities, it does not apply to community colleges until August 1, 2017. Our university partners at the LSC-University Center-The Woodlands and LSC-University Park have agreed to respect our policies on LSC property. A committee comprised of police, faculty, staff and administrators will begin meetingthis fall to develop recommendations to implement system-wide.

Our library provides our students and community with an extensive range of resources and services, multimedia and more than 55,000 books and 29,000 eBooks. We also partner with the Harris County and Montgomery County Public Libraries, allowing students unlimited access to millions of additional materials as well.

All vehicles must be registered with the college to receive a valid parking permit to park in designated lots (Lots B, C, D, E, F, J, K and L). Permits are free. Go to LoneStar.edu/Parking and click the “Get a Student Permit” link. All campus parking facilities are marked according to color zone and/or signage.
