ST PAUL’S PRIMARY SCHOOL, MT LAWLEY - FROM DARKNESS INTO LIGHT - 1
NEWSLETTER TERM 4 WEEK 8 1 DECEMBER 2016
PRINCIPAL’S PERSPECTIVE
Dear Members of St Paul’s School Community Reconciliation We are very grateful to Father Tim, Fr Manoel and Fr David for giving of their time this week to offer the children in Years 3-6 the Sacrament of Reconciliation, in preparation for Christmas. I hope the children experienced a sense of peace from this healing sacrament.
Kindy Concert Today, the Kindy class held their end of year concert and morning tea. The children love performing for their parents and we were very impressed with how far they have come since the start of the year. Thank you to Mac Callisto and the Kindy Education Assistants, Mary Kerrigan, Connie Mezzatesta and Rebecca Glynn for giving the children such a happy and productive year.
Year 6 Graduation Mass, Awards Ceremony and Dinner Dance We are all looking forward to the Year 6 Graduation Mass, Awards Ceremony and Dinner Dance this Friday, commencing at 6.30pm in the church. The Year 6 students have completed a series of social dancing lessons with Kaye Gilkison in readiness for this exciting event. Thank you to Penny Gazia, Leah Lee and all the Year 5 parents who are organising the dinner for the Year 6 students and their parents. We are very proud of our Year 6 leaders and will be sad to see them go at the end of the year. We wish them every success in secondary school and will follow their progress with interest.
Pre Kindy (3 Year Olds) Orientation Session This week, the 2017 Pre Kindy class participated in a very successful orientation session with the Pre Kindy team, Liz Scagliarini and Rebecca Glynn. The children had a wonderful time!
2016 Pre Kindy Christmas Celebration The 2016 Pre Kindy class will be holding their end of year celebration next Monday 5 December from 10.30-11.30 in the Kindy room. The children will participate in activities followed by morning tea with the parents. We thank Michelle Sims and Rebecca Glynn for organising this event.
End of Year Concert The students from Pre Primary to Year 6 are excitedly practising for the concert next Wednesday 7 December at 6.00pm. To ensure that the evening runs smoothly, we are asking the children to assemble in their classrooms beforehand. Parking will be a challenge and we would ask as many people as possible to park at the church and walk to the school. We need to be thoughtful of the neighbours on these occasions and avoid parking across driveways or on verges.
Thanksgiving Mass Next Thursday, 8 December at 9.15am, the children from Pre Primary to Year 6 will be celebrating the end of year Thanksgiving Mass at St Paul’s Church. At the Mass, we will give thanks for the year and farewell outgoing staff, students and departing families. All members of St Paul’s community are warmly invited to attend our last gathering in prayer together.
St Paul’s Primary School is committed to Christ-centred education, inspired by the vision of the Sisters of Our Lady of the Missions and the teachings of St Paul, empow-ering us to seek the truth and grow in knowledge from darkness into the light of Christ.
OUR VISION STATEMENT
REFLECTION
Graduating Students Prayer
Father, we thank you for
these graduating students. We pray that
you will give them direction, purpose, and perseverance as they
enter the next phase of their lives. Give them
clearness of mind to move forward into the plans and purposes that You
have for them. May these young people gain
wisdom from You and have discernment for
proper behaviour. Raise up Christian mentors for these graduates so they have someone who holds
them accountable for their actions. We pray
that they will rise above ungodly behaviours and
have the boldness to stand up for what is right wherever they work,
study, or socialise. Give them wisdom to spend their time and money
wisely. Grant them success for their efforts at
every turn and guide their feet to follow Your ways. May they be eager to do good and not evil all
the days of their lives. Use them in mighty
ways, Dear Father. In Jesus name, Amen.

PRINCIPAL’S PERSPECTIVE Cont………..
Farewell At the end of this year, we will be saying farewell to the following valued staff members: Michelle Sims: We are very sad to announce that Michelle Sims, who has been our Pre Kindy
teacher and was going to take on the role as Kindy teacher in 2017, will be leaving us at the end of this year. Due to her husbands work commitments, Michelle’s family may be relocating to Victoria. We thank Michelle for her wonderful contribution to St Paul’s in our early childhood centre.
Helen Mason: After many years of dedicated service, our beloved Pre Primary teacher Helen Mason has decided to retire and devote her attention to her family. Thankfully, Helen has softened the blow for us by promising to continue on at St Paul’s as a relief teacher.
Melissa Townsend: Our wonderful Education Assistant, Melissa, will also be leaving us, as her family is returning to their home in Queensland. We have all grown to love Melissa in her capacity as a staff member and as a parent at St Paul’s, and will miss the whole family.
Catherine Nguyen: Last year Catherine took a year’s secondment at Catholic Education WA as a member of their Catechist Team. The role has since become substantive, and Catherine has decided to stay on at CEWA. We thank Catherine for her valuable contribution to St Paul’s.
We will miss all these staff members and thank them for the wonderful contribution they have made to the school. I’m sure you will join me in wishing them all the best for the future.
Staff for 2017 I would like to acknowledge the wonderful staff at St Paul’s for their dedication and hard work in 2016 They are to be commended on their commitment to providing a quality Catholic education for our students. New Staff in 2017 Liz Scagliarini (Pre Kindy): I am delighted to announce that Liz Scagliarini will be our Pre Kindy
teacher for 2017. Liz is a very experienced early childhood teacher at Padbury Catholic Primary School, with a passion for play-based education, and she comes to us very highly recommended.
Nyssa Smith (Pre Primary): Nyssa comes to us from the Quintilian School. Nyssa has an interesting background, as she is actually a qualified veterinarian and should really be referred to as “Doctor” Nyssa Smith! I’m sure her love of animals will feature in some way in the Pre Primary class.
Jerelyn Tierney (Kindy): Jerelyn very capably took over as the Year 1 teacher during Semester 2 to cover Chiara Duffy’s Maternity Leave. We are pleased to announce that Jerelyn will continue teaching at St Paul’s in 2017 as the Kindergarten teacher.
Important Dates to Remember The last day of the 2016 school year for the students is Friday 9 December, ending at the normal time of the day. The staff will be working on at school until the following Friday, 16 December. The end of year reports will be available online after 4pm on Friday 9 December, the last day of the year for the students. If necessary, please contact the teacher to discuss your child’s report the following week. 2017 Dates Pre Primary to Year 6 will commence on Wednesday 1 February 2017 Pre Kindy children (who have already turned 3) will commence on Friday 3 February. The 4 Year Old Kindy children will have a staggered start for the first week of the year. The class has
been divided into two groups (Kindy parents have received a letter outlining this) and the starting dates will be:
Wednesday 1 February: Group 1 Thursday 2 February: Group 2 Tuesday 6 February: the whole class will attend Kindy together.
I hope to see you at the Parish/School Mass, hosted by the Pre Primary class this Sunday at 9.30am! Let’s enjoy the last week of school together!

ST VINCENT DE PAUL CHRISTMAS APPEAL 2016
A big thank you to all our St Paul’s Community on your generous contributions to the St Vincent de Paul Christmas Appeal. What a tremendous effort! On Monday we had the pleasure of handing over these baskets to Mr Peter Quinn who coordinates the area of Mount Lawley and North Perth. Mr Quinn spoke to the children and told them how these baskets would go to very needy families in our community. Sadly the number of families is increasing yearly. We pray that our dear Lord will comfort those in need and help them overcome these difficult times.
PARISH/SCHOOL MASS We thank Helen Mason, Melissa Townsend and Jeanette Casey for preparing the Pre Primary children for the Parish/School Mass this Sunday 4 December. We hope that many of you will make an effort to attend our final Parish/School Mass for this year. Mass will commence at 9.30am and will conclude with a morning tea that will be provided by our lovely Pre Primary parents. 2ND SUNDAYOF ADVENT
As the journey of Advent continues and we prepare to celebrate the nativity of Christ, John the Baptists’ call to conversion’ sounds out in our communities. It is a pressing invitation to open our hearts and to welcome the Son of God Who comes among us to make divine judgement manifest. Mac Callisto ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL

ST PAUL’S DADS PICNIC IN THE PARK
The Fathers and Father Figures of St Paul’s, along with their children, came together on Saturday afternoon to share in their first community event – Picnic in the Park. Held at Yokine Adventure Playground it was the first of many community events where dads and kids can spend time together doing different activities. Thank you to the St Paul’s Dad’s Group, and especially Dane O’Callaghan, for organising this memorable event.
CALLING ALL FATHERS & FATHER FIGURES OF ST PAULS
I think we’d all agree that the St Paul’s Dads Group has had a successful inaugural year. Looking to build on this, the Committee are meeting in early December to appoint roles and discuss next year’s events. If you’d like to be involved in the Committee, please contact [email protected]

SEQTA REPORTING SEMESTER 2 2016
This semester we will again be using SEQTA to produce our end of year reports.
An extra component of this system is known as SEQTA ENGAGE. This is an online parent portal, which is able to provide you with your child’s past and present reports.
SEQTA ENGAGE will allow the school to provide your child’s report through paperless means. Parents were previously sent an email to provision their individual account (last semester). Once you log in with your chosen login details you will see a menu on the left hand side. The Reports label is the way you can access your child’s semester report. Reports will be made available on line for you to see on any electronic device and print if you wish. Your child’s Semester 2 report will be available from Friday 9 December, 2016.
The school web link to access SEQTA ENGAGE is:
https://stpaulsmtl.coneqt-p.cathednet.wa.edu.au/
Your login details will be the same as Semester One. These are chosen by parents and not provided by the school. As such we cannot tell parents what their login details are. If you have forgotten your login details or cannot access the online portal please email Jesse Yock (contact details below) and we will reset your account. Please note that parents who are unable to access their child’s report using an electronic device may request a paper copy from the school office.
All SEQTA related enquiries should be directed to Jesse Yock at [email protected]
Should parents wish to see their child’s class teacher about their Semester 2 report you are welcome to contact the
teacher directly via email to make an appropriate time. Teachers are available for interviews on Monday 12
December between the hours of 9:00am and 3:00pm.
Reports for students who are leaving St Paul’s at the end of this year (even if their siblings remain)
will only be accessible online until Tuesday 13 December. After this time these reports will be
deleted from the system. St Paul’s staff will be available to assist with any issues you may have
until Thursday 15 December. After this date, please do not contact Catholic Education WA (CEWA)
to resolve such issues as they will be unable to assist you.
