Dear Parents, Carers and Students,  What a wonderful zone swimming carnival! Congratulations Eastern Creek  Public School on winning the overall championship shield for the seventh year.

Zone Swimming Carnival

On Tuesday 26th February, our talented swimmers attended the Sydney Zone  Swimming Carnival at Mount Druitt Swimming Pool accompanied by Miss Pavicic  and Mr McMasters. They competed against 19 schools in the Mt Druitt zone.  The students displayed team spirit and cheered their fellow peers as they each  competed in their race. Well done to all the swimmers for representing our school  with pride. Congratulations to the many students who have made it to the Sydney  West Regional Swimming Carnival at Homebush on March 19th.  At Eastern Creek Public School the staff work tirelessly to provide the best  education for your children on a daily basis, in the classroom, during outdoor  activities and during sporting events. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank the many parents who visited their child’s class teacher at the annual “Come and Tell Us About Your Child Evening”. It is a valuable time and staff appreciate the information you provide them.   School Contributions

As we do not want students disadvantaged, all  text books and school magazines are  issued  in trust that parents are expected to make payment on them. Text book payments last year were an improvement on the previous year, but still the school had to pay the full amount. The text books and student access to online learning programs, are not free. Soon, an  invoice will be  issued  listing  the cost of  the books,  stationery  fee and  for  the online programs,  “Mathletics” and Reading Eggs and the Voluntary Contribution Fee.  What is the School Voluntary Contribution Fee?

The Voluntary Contribution Fee of $20 a child or $40 per family is used to purchase school resources such as reading books, maths equipment, sports equipment, music instruments and many other educational items. The fee as you can see is a most valuable contribution. Please consider supporting the school through this fee. We would like to congratulate Mrs Tahbin and her husband on the exciting expecting a baby news! We wish Mrs Tahbin all the best of health and happiness as she starts a new chapter in life as a mother.   Restriction on School Car Park

The school also thanks the parents who are supporting the no entry to the school car park policy. Thank you for your assistance in keeping our children safe! In Cable Place, could you please be respectful and not block the driveways and only park in the legal areas or better still, park in the Cawarra Street carpark.  Could you also please obey the road rules and do not stop to drop or pick up children at the front of the school. This is illegal and dangerous for not only your child, but other drivers as well.

STAGE 1

EARLY STAGE 1 Kindergarten have been learning  lots of things. However, during Crunch and Sip, Lunch and Recess some interesting dialogue happens.

Students  have  been  discussing  each  other’s  lunch  box!  They  have  been  talking about what they like and don’t like and what is healthy and unhealthy.

They have even invited teachers and older students into their conversations.

Parents, please keep packing healthy foods that sustain their energy.

After the first few weeks of starting school our students in year 2 have begun to settle into routines and learning. They have had a great start to the year with lots of learning and fun activities within the classroom.  We have learned lots about each other and have loved playing getting to know you games within the classroom.

In year 2 we have made a lovely door display with pineapples. 2L believe everyone is different and unique. “In a world of apples be a pineapple” We all learn in different ways.

We have also been learning and exploring about place Value with 2‐3 Digit Numbers. And have loved working with the MAB blocks to help explore this fun mathematic topic.

STAGE 3

STAGE 2 3/4M

Over the last 2 weeks Stage 3/4M students have been working really hard. For History, students were involved in the reading of Aboriginal stories as part of their learning about the history of Eastern Creek. Students took part in these readings out under the shade of the trees in the back playground.

Last week we started our new fitness program and students have been involved in different activities that increase their heartrates and are fun at the same time.

5/6M Students in 5/6M have settled in really well in Term 1 as we have begun working on multiple units of work across all KLAS’s.

In maths there is a strong focus on improving our place value strategies which the students responded really well with visible improvements.

On Tuesday most of 5/6M students participated in the school swimming carnival. They represented our class along with their house with high amount of respect and sportsmanship.

In English we have been working on our close reading strategies along with our term 1 English unit.

PRESCHOOL The Explorers are settling well into Preschool. We

have had a wonderful week getting to know each other. This week we celebrated

Valentine’s Day. The children were busy creating

valentines gifts for their families. We were also very

lucky to receive beautiful flowers from Eastern Creek

Quarters.

Happy 4th birthday to Shamaya who celebrated

her birthday with us on Friday.

Online School Uniform purchases. We are trialling an online uniform shop. The link to the Eastern Creek Public School Uniform Shop is http://www.madeforschool.com.au/store/eastern-creek-public-school While there is an increase in pricing for uniform items, there has not been a price increase for uniforms at Eastern Creek Public School for over 6 years. There will be a Delivery cost of $9.90 applied per order, please consider this when you place orders. We are in negotiations hoping that a delivery can be made each week to the school. In the meantime, please make complete your orders with friends or family and split the delivery cost. Most items are available online except for hats and the dress uniform which will be available at the school. The dress will still need to be ordered and there will be a wait for this. Uniforms will be available at the school for the same price as the online store price until stock at school has been depleted. There will be a limited supply of uniforms at school for sizing purposes. Please contact the office if you need for assistance with the purchasing of school uniform items.

Please provide us with feedback re the Online Uniform shop during the trial period.

This is a reminder that parents have the responsibility for their children’s safety when they are in the council play park. Teachers at the school will be on duty at the school gate and will return children who have not been picked up to the school office in order that parents are contacted. I ask that parents remind their children to be aware of strangers and of the time when they are playing unsupervised at the council play park. Children should be instructed to return home or to the school office if they find themselves without their parent whilst playing at the park. I also ask parents to be extremely careful when driving in the car park. Please be very responsible and be extremely alert for children in the car park. A reminder that signs indicate to reverse park, so parents are not reversing once children are in the carpark. More importantly, if you cannot pick your children up in the afternoon or there is a change as to the procedure you need to contact the school prior to 2.30pm the time taken to get a message to a classroom is not instantaneous, it takes time. If lateness is a regular occurrence then after school care needs to be considered. School ends at 3.00pm and parents need to pick up their children. The school also thanks the parents who are supporting the no entry to the school car park policy. Thank you for your assistance in keeping our children safe! In Cable Place, could you please be respectful and not block the driveways and only park in the legal areas or better still, park in the Cawarra Street carpark.

At Eastern Creek Public School, we are starting to implement ideas based upon the

Berry Street Education Model.

It is made up of four domains: Body, Stamina, Engagement, and Character, all anchored by Relationship. Each domain reflects an understanding of evidence-based practice which informs daily classroom learning, and can also be used at home.

As part of the program students are introduced to ‘Brain Breaks’ as a strategy to keep students engaged and more on task more of the time. Some of these strategies can be fun to try at home. They include breathing exercises for relaxation and focus, and movement exercises such as a quick game of Rock, Paper, Scissors for those who need to just move.

Look out for more exciting ideas and information in future newsletters.
