Dear Families,
Bushfire Preparedness
Tomorrow we will be having an evacuation
drill to check that our processes are clear in
the event of an emergency. The fire danger
period has now been declared in our area.
As a school on the Bushfire at Risk Registry
(BARR) we have received additional funding to
ensure that our grounds are in the best shape
possible prior to and throughout the high
danger period over summer. Ben Truan our
local arborist will be conducting works next
week around the school after completing a
site inspection of all our vegetation. A couple
of ageing trees will be removed 1 near the
small playground and the others from
Redbank. We will also be getting work done
on our front garden beds to remove grass,
suckers and ageing vegetation.
A reminder to please ensure that emergency
contact details are correct and up to date. This
should be done through Compass.
3/4 Howmans Gap Camp
Students will be heading off on camp next
which means that final payment is now due.
Payment can now be made on Compass for
those families wishing to use a credit card. A
reminder note will be sent home today with
students.
State Athletics
Alec and Eddy competed at the State Track
and Field Championships in Melbourne last
Thursday. The boys ran really well and it is a
great achievement for students from a small
rural school to be able to compete with the
best kids on the state. Alec placed 3rd in the
1500m and 6th in the 800m. Eddy placed 10th
in the 1500m running against boys a year old
than him.
Student Teacher
Tomorrow we will have another student
teacher working at our school for 17 days. Josh
Kable used to be a student at our school and is
excited to be returning . He will be working
mainly with the junior students and attending
the 3/4 camp.
Pupil Free Day
A reminder that Monday 4th November is our
last Pupil Free Day of the year. Staff will be
working with the other schools in our cluster to
complete a Cultural Understanding and
Sensitive Training program.
Production
The students were introduced to the script last
week and given information regarding costume
ideas. There was a lot of excitement around the
storyline. We are on the look out for some
large, sturdy cardboard boxes if your have
anything lying around.
Cricket Clinic
Last Thursday all students were involved in a
clinic run by Charles from Cricket Victoria. The
students had a great time.

3 sounds of –ed
At the end of a word—ed can make 3 sounds:
1. /id/ - when after a d or t. E.g. tested,
handed.
2. /d/ - when after voiced consonants such as
w and l. E.g. flowed, sailed.
3. /t/ after unvoiced consonants or digraphs
such as p, and ch, and s or z. E.g. bumped,
switched, passed.
MSL Mathlete of the Week
Last week saw many students working hard
to earn over 1000 points.
Well done to Chanel who was our Mathlete
of the Week in Week 3.
Making Day
Making Day was a busy one last week with all groups engaged
in tasks around the school.
The cooking group made a Mexican feast using pita bread.
The gardening group planted out lots of seedlings into our
vegetable garden including tomatoes, beans, zucchini, squash,
parsley.
The making group began designing some of the props for our
end of year production.
It is always great to see the support that the older students
provide to the younger one and the sense of pride when
students are finished and are able to show others what they
have done.
Friday whole school writing has turned into one of our favourite parts of the week. Students are given a prompt and with minimal instruction they begin writing. There is no set genre or expectation other than to be brave and write freely. The best part is the sharing when we can listen to other people’s work.
Here is last week’s prompt picture and below some of the amazing vocabulary and phrases used by students from P-6.
Friday Writing
Curious
Stomach churning with nerves
Caught a glimpse
Thrashed and jiggles and wobbled until
In the deep dark ocean
Fade away
Stared for a moment
In the blink of an eye
Panic filled my mind
Sky wrapped in dark clouds
