PRESIDENTS REPORT

The phone rang, while I was playing a Louis Armstrong disk at the desk, while I was working on the computer. The young lady, Doctor’s receptionist; calling to remind me of the next day’s appointment commented “what lovely bright music I was listening to”. After finishing the call, it left me...wondering. After discussing it with another Committee member David Lintern, seems he’s been having a “like” experience with people telling him “I didn’t realise what Jazz was like, most think it’s just loud and fast”.

It leaves us on the Committee seeking ways to reach the wider public. Our 1st President Col Hobson has been arranging PUB BASED, all musos, welcome to join in a free afternoon at the Courthouse Hotel. It’s much en-joyed but mostly by regular attending members of our Club. It’s good to greet fans there. But like every other endeavour, we have to keep growing to stay alive. So this why I’m calling on all our members to spread the word, about the quality of our Club’s performances. Let them know what a good night you’ve had. That Condong Bowling Club has excellent performing and dining space, with excellent cooks and bar staff. It allows the Jazz Club to setup into a perfect Jazz Club space.

All the Committee look forward to is greeting you there.

LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING YOU AT THE NEXT GIG

Niven Walton—Jazz Train

“Jazz Train is headed by drummer Niven Walton…with his son Glenn on Piano – Ian Beddows on Bass/Vocal and Aaron West on Guitar/Vocals… Niven started playing drums at an early age and will always remember his first professional gig…playing drums for Issador Goodman at the Lennons Broadbeach Hotel. At the time Mr Goodman was rated in the top 5 classical players in the world. \During his early “drumming years” Niven ended up playing drums for: the Bee Gees, Peter Allen, Normie Rowe, Barry Crocker and in the Jazz world with the likes of Don Burrows, Ricky May, Horrie Dargie and Johnny Nicol. Niven’s son Glenn is a graduate of the Qld Conservatorium with Bachelor of Music and Master of Teaching degrees. With the very talented Ian Beddows and Aaron west…they love playing all styles of music…with the JAZZ TOUCH”

CONDONG BOWLING CLUB Welcome to Condong Bowling Club, the "Friendliest little Club on the Tweed". Provides a great room for the Jazz nights and the meals are beautiful. Most meals are under $20 and desserts change from month to month. I ordered chicken and camembert filo with salad and chips or vegs and it was deli-cious, then sticky date pudding with custard & ice cream to finish nicely..mmmm! Discount on meals for CBC members.
