KCT.BS Congratulates Mr. Shankar Vanavarayar, who has taken charge as Joint Correspondent of KCT Shankar Vanavarayar has been appointed as Joint Correspondent of Kumaraguru College of

Technology by Arutchelvar Dr.N.Mahalingam, Chairman of Sakthi Group from November 30, 2012.

When taking charge as Joint Correspondent he said, “I look forward to a working with passion and

creativity with the students and staff to make KCT into a innovative, experiential, excellence based,

exciting, learner centric, empowered and world class institution”

Shankar Vanavarayar who is also the Executive Director of Sakthi Auto Motors Ltd has a Bachelors

Degree in Commerce from PSG Arts and Science College Coimbatore, MBA from the Cardiff University

in the UK and a Masters in International Education Management from the University of Leeds UK.

Shankar Vanavarayar has been a part of Young Indians for the past 6 years playing various roles from

chapter to national positions of Strategy, Communication and Events. He is passionate about the role

of Young Indians in making the India of tomorrow. He is passionate about the heritage of the land and

works for the cause of preservation through INTACH and also The Vanavarayar Foundation founded

by him to work in the areas of history, architecture, culture and heritage.

Shankar Vanavarayar plays various roles in 1.0 Billion USD Sakthi Group. Now he plays a passionate

and dynamic role in the

management of KCT

which educates more

INSTITUTION – INDUSTRY CONNECTS Guest Lectures

Business Analytics by Mr. Arun Sundararaman, Healthcare Analytics Practice Lead at

Accenture on November 2, 2012

Systems Centre of KCT.BS arranged for a guest lecture on November 2, 2012, 02.00 pm in Lecture Theater 1, KCT Business School, KCT Campus. It had been a privilege to have Mr. Arun Sundararaman, Healthcare Analytics Practice Lead at Accenture, India to share his expertise on the topic "Business Analytics".

Mr. Arun clearly outlined the reason for budding managers to focus on the area of 'Business Analytics' which is the need of the hour, & how in Business Analytics, data gives insights which in turn would assist in better decision making. Business analytics (BA) refers to the skills, technologies, applications and practices for continuous iterative exploration and investigation of past business performance to gain insight and drive business planning. BA makes extensive use of data, statistical and quantitative analysis, explanatory and predictive modelling and fact-based management to drive decision making. Students raised query to check if they should be tech savvy to become a Business Analyst. Mr. Arun explained the difference between BA & BI, where in Business intelligence, technical aspects play a big role due to the concepts involved like querying, reporting, OLAP, and "alerts".

Ms. Priya Dharshini and Mr. Harimurugadass organized the session.

Performance Appraisal and Development by Ms.Vijayalakshmi, Manager

– Human Resources (India) from VWR Lab Products PVT Ltd, Coimbatore on November

8, 2012

A guest lecture on “Performance Appraisal and

Development” was arranged for the final year

students of KCTBS specializing in Human

Resources. The Guest speaker was

Ms.Vijayalakshmi, Manager – Human Resources

(India) from VWR Lab Products PVT Ltd,

Coimbatore. The programme was conducted on

8th November , 2012 at LT1 in KCT Business

School Campus. The lecture started off with a fine

description about VWR Lab Products by Mrs.

Vijayalakshmi. She then deliberated on what

Performance Management means and also about

KPI i.e. key performance indicators followed by an explanation on the talent process and the position

of performance management in the talent process.

The guest then gave an excellent description on the steps involved in Performance Management. The

first step, setting up of objectives is one very important step whereby; various

objectives to be achieved during the year are being set for the employees by the managers. She also

added that sometimes managers also cascade the objectives. Once the objectives are set and activities

start, reviews are conducted at various intervals of the year. Informal feedback discussions also

happen in the meanwhile. She added that performance management has three components namely,

Business Goals, Competencies and Development planning and subsequently gave a description on how

things happen in VWR regarding these. The happenings in the year end review and the system of

usage of five point rating scale in VWR was introduced to the audience by the speaker then. The guest

then portrayed the role of employees and managers in the performance management activity. She also

told about the different competencies that they should poses. Various happenings during the year end

performance discussion were also illustrated. The concept of performance differentiation, pay

differentiation, causes of differentiation and its procedure was clearly stated by the resource person.

The dos and don’ts in bestowing effective feedback were also notified by the presenter. The orator was

successful in making the talk interesting by adding various interesting videos and also examples from

her day to day experiences on performance management in VWR. The session came to a close with

some questions from the audience. The session thus gave a clear picture on what performance

management is and also how it is helpful in planning the developmental activities in corporate like

VWR. Faculty Coordinator was Ms. Poongodi.B, Assistant Professor/KCTBS and the Student

Coordinator was Ms. Divyaprabha from II MBA.

Cross - Cultural training by Ms. Priya Malini, Sr. Specialist, Knowledge Management

and Corporate Communications, VWR Lab Products Pvt Ltd was organized on November 21, 2012 for 2011 batch MBA students between 10 - 11.30 am.

The speaker highlighted the significance of cross-cultural training in multinational organizations. The discussions were based on the romantic comedy movie "Outsourced" in which when Todd Anderson's (Josh Hamilton) job and entire department are outsourced, he reluctantly travels to India to train his replacement. Arriving in India, he experiences culture shock. The discussion covered the areas of oral communication, body language, interpersonal

interactions, dinning etiquette, office environment, social life and relationships. Hostede's 5 cultural factors were also discussed. The resource person also discussed about the Indian faux pas - judging other cultures, inability to say No, not communicating directly but using flowery indirect style, being intrusive and the speed of speech. The session opened the minds of the students to think, have a global perspective and was also humorous. Session was organized by Dr. Vijila Kennedy

Value Engineering & Process Reengineering by Mr.N.Srikanth, Vice-

President – Operations, Elgi Equipments Limited,

on November 22, 2012

A guest lecture was conducted for the Operations

specialisation students by Mr.N.Srikanth, Vice-

President – Operations, Elgi Equipments Limited,

Coimbatore on the topic ‘Value Engineering &

Process Reengineering’ on 22-11-2012 at 3pm in LT-

2.

The session began with a personal introduction by

Mr.Srikanth which was followed by an introduction

to ELGI and their history. He said that value

engineering is a powerful tool for reducing costs

while maintaining or improving performance and quality requirements. He then explained the various

phases of value engineering and how it was implemented successfully in their compressors for

changing the design to carry pipes, to reduce the number of doors, to combine a number of solenoid

valves into one and to reduce the noise level to achieve a better market share.

Mr.Srikanth then explained that modern tools of production such as JITand Lean Manufacturing have

to be used in conjunction with value engineering to increase productivity. The session concluded with

an interactive session with the students.

It was organised by the operations forum of KCTBS and the programme coordinators were

Mr.V.Kannan and Mr.R.Vinayagasundaram.

STRATEGIES FOR HUMAN RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT by

Mr.P.M.Jagadeesan, Vice-President –HR, Sara-Elgi Group, on November 22, 2012

A lecture on “Strategies for Human Resource

Development” was arranged for the II MBA

students specialising in HR. Mr.P.M.Jagadeesan,

Vice-President –HR was the resource person on

22nd November, 2012. The Lecture gave

insights into the strategic HR planning and

practices from industry perspective. The guest

shared his vast experience and shared real life

cases in the field of Human Resources. He

deliberated on various critical aspects of HR

like managing the diversified workforce,

acquisition of talent, employee engagement and

appropriate strategies adopted in the industry.

Students were given to understand that HR is not a service function but a strategic function as HR is

the leader of all other Resources. Strategic HR

planning ensures that right number of people

with right competencies at the right place and

time which in turn becomes organizational

competitive advantage. He also shared his

views on what went wrong with Maruthi plant.

He also shared his experiences on his visit to

Toyoto plant in Japan where employees devote

little time for socialisation and Hyundai plant in

Chennai. The Lecture came to an end after a

short question and answer session.

Entrepreneurship Initiatives

Entrepreneurship Bootcamp on November 15-17, 2012

KCT Business school conducted

a 3 day workshop titled

Entrepreneurship Bootcamp

from

15-17 November 2012. Mr

Rustam Sengupta, CEO, Boond

NewDelhi and Mr Shashank

Rastogi, Director – Operations,

Centre for Innovation,

Incubation and

Entrepreneurship, IIM

Ahmedabad were the resource

persons for the three days. The

workshop saw the participation

of 40 delegates who were

entrepreneurs with start-ups,

students, professionals and

homemakers aspiring to be entrepreneurs.

During the 3 days, the resource

persons trained the participants

on a number of practically

relevant aspects. Day 1 saw the

participants practising their

elevator pitch to perfect it. They

were also made to understand

the nuances of market research.

Rustam & Shashank focussed on

the investment cycle for an

enterprise explaining to them

when and how to raise capital,

illustrate ways of pricing their

products or services and

identifying how they will create a

business model and bring in

revenue. On day 2, the focus was

on raising funds, building the brand and organization. Legal and taxation issues related to enterprises

were discussed. In the context of organisation building, different styles of leaderships were detailed

and shown the clippings from `12

Angry men`. At the end of the exercise

the participants could identify with the

kind of leadership best suited for their

organisation.

On the last day of the workshop, the

participants had a concrete business

model in hand, which was reviewed

and fine tuned by the resource persons.

Entrepreneurship Bootcamp provided

the right platform for encouraging the

young entrepreneurs with start-ups. It

was also unique in that the students ,

homemakers and professionals were

exposed to the early challenges in starting a venture from those who were actually going through

them. The participants also benefitted as they were given links to incubation centres and other

sources of funds during the program.

CII Yi ROAD2IDEAS- The Innovation Run November 2012

Road2ideas- A run for

Innovation which ran through

Four States, Four Days, 2100

Kms and 96 Hours. Twelve

teams from different states

(Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab,

Gujarat, Maharashtra, Madhya

Pradesh, Tamilnadu and

Kerala) participated in this

run. It was all about meeting

the Young entrepreneurs from

different sectors who, in their

respective sectors came up

with Innovations and created

a Benchmark. Moreover, it

was to select The Next

Practice.

The team consisted of four members, two members in Front End (Travellers) and two members in

Back End (Supporters). The Front End team was been given with a task of getting the first hand

information from the Innovators and communicate it

with the Back End Team. The Back End team was to

create a Case study on the innovations made by the

Innovators, keeping C.K.Prahlad’s Innovation Sand Box

in Mind.

Front-end team of Mr.Kasinathan and Mr.Bhavani

Shankar were meeting three to four Innovators in each

state (Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Maharashtra and Goa)

every day. The back end team of Mr.Ramkumar and

Mr.Rakesh Sharma made the videos and presentations of

the innovations by the entrepreneurs and uploaded it on

the Road2ideas page on Facebook. Jury was been

appointed for evaluating the videos and assign grades to

them. The team which had made the best case study was

awarded a cash prize of Rs.25, 000. Three videos had to

be uploaded on the Facebook page every day and the

dead line for uploading the videos was 2300hrs. In

addition, most popular videos were also considered.

The Run started from Lal Bagh, Indore (Madhya

Pradesh) at 1000 hours on 1st November. The

introduction about the event, Rules and regulations,

Evaluation criteria was briefed before the journey

began. The team travelled through Madhya Pradesh,

Gujarat, Maharashtra and the run finally came to an

end at Goa with an Unconference on 4th November.

Here the front end team had to choose an innovator

and had to make a presentation on their innovation,

the presentation was been made by all the teams. The

Valedictory function was at Goa Beach on the Boat

where the Winners were been announced and there

was a party been arranged for the participants and the

Yi team as well. It was a great learning and a fun

experience for all participants and KCT.BS is

committed to provide a platform for young talents

getting such exposure in future as well.

KCT.BSians joins the team of Dream Catchers at Dream.In on November 2012

Four students of 2012 batch John Christopher G , Naveen Prashanth, Aravind R (Sec A), K

Vinothini (Sec C) were selected for the dream catchers training conducted by Dream: In.

The training was conducted for two days (13.11.2012 & 14.11.2012) at Bangalore. The training

focused on cinematography techniques, business ideas etc. The job assigned to every dream

catcher was to capture as many dreams as possible and send it back to Dream: In for review. The

total number of dreams captured was around 100. It was captured from students of KCT BS, KCT

Tech and some outsiders. The dreams are being processed

CERTIFICATION PROGRAMS

Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Certification Four days certification program

from November 7 to 10, 2012

KCT.BS has organized "Lean Six Sigma Green Belt

Program" a four day’s certification program from

November 7 to 10, 2012, conducted by Juran,

Head quartered at Connecticut, USA.

This Lean Six Sigma Green Belt certification

program provides students to learn Lean

techniques and principles, Value Stream

Mapping, and the various tools of Six Sigma. The

students were also trained in DMAIC (Define-

Measure-Analyze-Improve-Control) methodology

that, when properly applied, can dramatically

improve an organization’s overall efficiency and effectiveness. Lean six sigma is one of the best known

quality improvement methods which is used widely across industries. The course also involved with

the activities to understand the lean management by simple practical exercise for participants. Lean

Six sigma certification provided by International certification from the Global leader Juran-USA, will

open avenues for exciting career opportunities in training, consulting and process re-engineering

across several industries. And this program is a continuation of the Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt

Program, which was conducted during last year for the students of KCT Business School.

Psychometric Workshop on November 20, 2012

A Certificate course on Psychometrics for

the HR Students of the 2011 batch

through NIPM Chapter was conducted as

a One day Workshop on 20th Nov 2012.

This Workshop aimed a step toward

giving an opportunity for students to

learn about various Psychometric tests

to measure individual’s decision making

capabilities and behavioral style. This

workshop was designed to

provide an insight into what

psychometric tests are

and to explore their use in recruitment

and selection processes.

The Workshop was inaugurated by Mr.

Annadurai P Senior Manager-HRD, LMW Ltd. and Dr. Vijila Kennedy Director KCT.BS. He spoke about

the importance of the Psychometrics assessment tools in the Industry to find the best fit for job

openings. He set the stage for the speakers by giving a brief outline on Thomas Profiling.

Mr. Senthil, Chairman Helikx, Certified and a practicing Psychometric Assessor trained the students

about the various aspects of Thomas

Profiling. An activity was performed

on HJA (Human Job Analysis) to

make the students understand and

experience the tool. Based on which

the profile factors were explained

and analyzed. He also explained the

ability of the tools to profile jobs

within the organization by

understanding the behavior’s needed

from a person in a role and be able to

recruit the right person to fill it.

The subsequent session was on

FIRO-B expedited by Dr. Kirupa

Priyadarshini. The students had

great learning’s about the Fundamental Interpersonal Relations Oriented Behavior (FIRO- B) as they

made their self-assessment with the questioner and tools of evaluation. The students then discussed

on the various behavior aspects towards successful relationship on the work and personal front and

the benefits of the same.

The Afternoon session was exclusively focused on Multiple Intelligence and FITS, the latest practice in

the field of HR. The session was

embarked by the experienced

practioner Ms. Aishwarya Jayaraman.

She explained in detail the various

components of Multiple Intelligence

to the students and helped them to

profile themselves with the Howard

Gardner’s MI Model. She focused on

the FITS approach and explained the

characteristics of Feeler, Intuited,

Thinker and Sensor.

The session was valedictory in the

presence of Mr. Mutuvelappan,

Chairman, NIPM Coimbatore Chapter

by distributing the Participating Certificates. Feedback was collected from the students and the

MPower TRAINING SESSION for 2012 Batch A November 15-17, 2012

Three day persona enhancement training workshop for I year MBA –A Section helped the students to

develop the soft skill set needed to deal with the challenges involved in real-world scenarios by

Vertical Eye, Conoor.

The training workshop includes Personal Enhancement and Behavioral skills Enhancement

techniques which can help to ensure that professional is reliably able to put the message across and is

able to deliver the concepts. The training program includes how to improve knowledge of English,

Learn how to effectively communicate their ideas and views, They Learned the skill of giving speeches,

presentations, and Understanding effective body language to make an impact, learning the skill of

making conversation, improving dressing sense and to create the business plans. The workshop was

very interesting and evaluation was done by the trainers based on the students’ performances.

INNOVATIVE TEACHING - LEARNING METHODS

Article discussion in Economics: RBI’s monetary Policy- Article Review on November 5, 2012 On October 31, 2012, RBI released the mid year monetary policy review. On November 5, 2012, Section A & B of Batch 2012-14 discussed on the articles related with the monetary policy and its impact on common man. This discussion focused on monetary policy changes, objectives of the revision in policy, impact of the policy on business sector and national economy.

Tense Evolution on November 8, 2012

Tense Evolution was conducted as a part

of their practical learning session for the

Executive Communication class..

Business school presented before us the

past, present and future ways of

communication. For the past they role

played the sign language, human

messengers, pigeons etc.., for the

present , the role play included Printing

press, Radio, Pipe-speaker, Telegram

/Telegraph/post, pager, fax, mobile

phone, personal computers, television,

internet , sky pe etc…, for the future of

communication, students role played virtual

classroom, Robotics, super car with virtual

communication, power point presentation

by voice, Automatic inbuilt phone chargers,

testing by thinking, security cameras with

mind mapping, etc.

Communication is the colour that is used to

paint the otherwise blank canvas, the world.

Growth of communication never stops but

keeps growing reaching newer horizon.

Business Model of SHGs : Financial Inclusion on November 7, 2012

As a part of the Economics Subject activity, the

students of I MBA “C” Section were asked to study

the Business model of the Self Help Groups

operating in Coimbatore. The students were made

to understand the Financial Inclusion done for

SHGs through the schemes provided by the

Government. The major objective of the activity

and interview remained as to understand the

operations of business run by the Self Help Groups.

Both primary and secondary data were collected in

this regard. A structured Questionnaire was

prepared to collect the data through direct

interview method. The students were divided into teams. The teams met the Heads and the members

of various Self Help Groups in the first week of November, 2012. Ms. Sudha, Assistant Project Officer,

Collector’s Office, Coimbatore helped us to identify SHGs operating in Coimbatore. The questions

were made in such a way it probed answers for business operations, procuring raw materials, Staffing,

funds raising, sharing of profit, etc. The teams were able to understand the concepts of micro-

financing through this activity. A written report was submitted by the respective teams to Ms.

Poongodi, B., Assistant Professor and Subject in-charge.

SHRD Role Play, Consultancy-Client Relationship on November 15, 2012

The topic Key Issues in Consultant-Client

Relationship in Strategic Human Resource

Development paper was dealt for the final year

HR students by Role Play Method. The

students were given the opportunity to play

either the role of a client or a consultant for a

specified firm and a given situation. The

students were given prescribed roles a couple

of days earlier and asked to go for a

consultant-client discussion.

Different roles like an Organization Consultant

and an employee client, a business firm

consultant-client, a marketing Research

consultant client, an advertising Consultant-

client were assigned to various HR teams.

with Client’s culture, Termination of consultancy were discussed here. The factors that could make a

client-consultant relationship go awry were also discussed during the de-briefing session. This was an

“REALITY TRAINING” AT CHENNAI SILKS November 5-9, 2012

Reality Training gives the student on-the-job training thereby helping him/her learn and appreciate

the difficulties and challenges associated with the job, also gives them an orientation of what it will be

like. This type of training is not only

good for students who are job-seekers

but also potential entrepreneurs as

they get to know first-hand, the

difficulties that such a job entails and

will make them better managers and

entrepreneurs.

A team of 26 I MBA students

underwent ‘Reality Training’ at

Chennai Silks, Ukkadam New branch,

Coimbatore for a week in order to get

an exposure to the thrills and pressures of a retailing job. The students were put on 2 shifts – morning

shift between 8.30 am and 3 pm and the

evening shift between 2.30 pm to 8 pm. A total

of 14 students attended the morning shift and

12 students attended the evening shift from

05.11.12 to 09.11.12 for 5 days.

The students were formed into teams and

placed in various departments of Chennai Silks

like Sales, billing and customer care. They

helped the staff there in handling customers,

making sales and billing/invoicing.

There were very important learnings for the

students from this whole exercise. They learnt to gauge the mindset of the customer, understood the

dynamics of the relationship between sales staff, the incentive system paid to staff and strategies staff

employed to maximise their incentives (both monetary and non-monetary), managing the cash flow

and promotion schemes offered to customers in order to increase footfalls.

Visit To Erode Agriculture Producers’ Cooperative Marketing Society, Erode

A team consisting of ten members from I MBA “ C " section visited the Erode Agriculture Producers’

Co-Operative Marketing Society, Erode on 29th November, 2012. This visit was framed as a part of

their Economics Course that they are undergoing now.

The prime objective of the visit was to

understand the prevailing structure of the

turmeric market. The students made a

preview of the concepts related to market

structure and production costs.

Mr.Shanmugam, Secretary, Erode CMS

started their day by sharing the functions,

and roles of the Society to the team. Then,

the team under the leadership of Mr.Villalan,

R., I MBA witnessed the TURMERIC

AUCTION which is the main event of the

Society. The Society facilitates the buying

and selling of turmeric by auction method

and provides warehousing facility and also

makes turmeric powder. Mr.Nandagopal Senior Office Assistant guided the students and explained

about all the operations that takes place in ECMS.

The first Floor in the Society

building is exclusively meant for

Auction. Auction is done through

Secret Quote Method where the

price is quoted and dropped in

Tender box that is kept there. Rate

is assigned by buyers by seeing the

sample of turmeric kept in trays.

The price quotes are opened on

behalf of the secretary and he will

announce the highest Quote to the

turmeric farmers. Turmeric was

traded in Quintals. Later a part of

the team met the farmers to

understand the cost and

production function. The other

part of the team interviewed a few buyers to understand the factors lying behind determining a price

for the turmeric. The team felt enlightened about the Yellow Gold Spice trading and found the visit

very interesting. The event was organized by Ms.B.Poongodi, Assistant Professor, KCTBS.

funding Liquidity and Risk Premiums. Prof.K.Vaidyanathan, IIM-C was the discussant for the

paper. Prof.Vikas Agarwal, Georgia State University-USA presented on the Institutional Investment

in Hedge funds. Prof.Sankarshan Basu, IIM-B was the discussant for the paper. Each paper were

presented for 90 minutes followed by 30 minutes of Discussant's views. The workshop was a

source for social and research networking amongst the participants and experts. The finance lab of

IIM-C organized the workshop.

5. Mr. K.Prabhu attended a Faculty Development Programme on " Employee Engagement" at GRG

School of Management Studies on November 3, 2012. The Programme focused mainly on how to

identify the actively engaged employees, and how to set specific goals and measures of success for

the employee engagement strategies to support the organization's vision, mission, values and key

objectives.

6. In- house training program on EBSCO was

conducted On 07.11.2012 by Mr.Shaji John,

General Manager from EBSCO Information

Services India (P) Limited, New Delhi who

presented the access features and benefits of

EBSCO Complete Research Database. The

EBSCO Complete research database is widely

used by many premier academic institutions

as a support arm for fostering research,

publication and consultancy assignments.

Faculty members actively interacted with

Mr.Shaji and explored and took note of the

possible ways to utilize the EBSCO

The consultancy assignment on Skill Mapping at Bimeatal Bearings has reached its completion, with

the final set of data collected from Bimetal and skill matrix developed. The first

installment of Rs15,000 of the consultancy amount was also received.

The manuals on Training for Blue collar workers and handbook on performance

assessment have been completed. After whetting the documents, they will be

handed over to Bimetal by the first week of the next month and the remaining fees

for the consultancy shall be received.

Class Committee Meetings

Batch 2011-13

The Class Committee meeting was conducted for the Batch 2011-13 on 07.11.2012 between 04:45 -

07:00 pm. The Class Advisors Mr.V.Kaarthiekheyan and Mr.A.Senthil Kumar chaired the meeting,

attended by the students of batch 2011-13. The meeting started with a brief discussion on the

previous committee meeting minutes. The Academic Proceedings, Attendance Status,

and KCT.BS Infrastructure utilization were discussed during the meeting.

The fifth and final Class Committee meeting for the semester August-December 2012 was conducted

for the Batch 2011-13 on 21.11.2012 (Wednesday). The Class Advisors Mr.V.Kaarthiekheyan and

Mr.A.Senthil Kumar chaired the meeting. The student members of the committee discussed upon

academics, internal exam performance, attendance, mentor meetings, forum and league activities,

project work proceedings, and placement activities.

Participation in the Two days Workshop on Transactional

Analysis on November 17-18, 2012

Nine students and one faculty of KCT.BS participated in the two day work shop on

Transactional analysis Introductory course (TA101) on 17 &18 of Nov 12. This workshop

gives them a picture of how people are structured psychologically, TA is applied wherever

individuals meet and interact. TA is both a theory of human personality and a system for the

improvement of human relations. Its application to everyday living provides a systematic

approach to understanding the links between human needs and behaviours. This workshop

was exclusively adapted to meet the needs of people interested in enhancing their

relationships and leading a better life. TA provides a comprehensive model to understand

behavioral patterns, communication, interpersonal relationship, motivation, time

management, attitudes, conflict management, and life span development for better living. The

Participants have learn the key concepts of TA and how to apply them in their personal and

professional lives to develop Communication skills for excellence in human relations,

Motivation skills for excellence in emotional intelligence, Stress Management skills for

Student Participation in Inter Collegiate Events

Sports

Sabari Karthick of 2011 batch participated in the 21st world karate championship was

held at Bercy Sports stadium in Paris, France from 21st to 25th of November 2012. The

event was organized by the French government, World karate federation and France karate

federation. Totally 990 athletes from 116 various countries took part in the mega event.

Sabari Karthick represented the Indian Karate team in the Under 75Kg men kumite event. He

had his fight with Turkish athlete S.Yagci, and the score was IND 3- TUR 3 in the end of the

fight. However his opponent was announced winner according to the hunthe rule. We wish

him all the best in the future competitions

OPERATIONS Forum

Batch 2012 The second Operations Forum for first year MBA was conducted on 07.11.12. The activities conducted

were based on Supply Chain Management and Lean Manufacturing concepts.

The main objective of the Supply Chain Management

game is to meet the customer demand. Students were

formed into groups of four members each and each

member was given the role of manufacturer,

wholesaler, distributor and retailer. The supply

drivers had to satisfy the varying customer demand

by using the minimum inventory given to them and

the supply received from their counterparts.

The Lean game is about the identification of waste

from paper boat making activity. The

activity was mainly conducted to make the

students understand the 7 types of waste

that lean manufacturing tries to eliminate in

an organization.

Virtual logistics is an online simulation

game. Logistics networks were controlled by

students by directing the orders towards the

particular destination on time. It helped the

students to analyse the situation and also to

manage time as per the requirement.

All the students were actively engaged in increasing productivity by minimizing wastage and they

found the games very interesting and useful. The forum was coordinated by Mr.V.Kannan and

Mr.R.Vinayagasundaram.

Batch 2011

The third Operations Forum for second

year MBA was conducted on 16.11.12.

The activities conducted were based on

Business Process Reengineering (BPR)

concepts.

The first activity was about identifying

the correct BPR concept from the

statements given. In the second activity

on standardisation, students were asked

to assemble pens from the pen parts

given to them within the stipulated

time.

The next activity was on identifying the correct objectives of six sigma and lean manufacturing. The

process redesign activity

interesting and useful. The

SYSTEMS forum

Techziz, the Systems forum of KCT.BS conducted

the forum activities for Batch 2012 on November

28, 2012. Two interesting activities 'Data Mining

Game' and 'MIS Model Development' happened. In

'Data Mining Game', set of folders were given to

each team, wherein, the answer for the riddle in

the main file becomes the password for the next

folder and this continued with a chain of folders.

Then in MIS model development, teams were

asked to design an MIS model for a particular type

of organization like Retail super market, IT

industry, Automobile industry etc. Aim of this

activity was to give a holistic understanding of MIS

in an organization. Priya Dharshini. A., Assistant Professor - Systems conducted the session with the

help of Harimurugadass, Assistant Professor. The tasks were assisted by Divya, Elakkiya, Manickaraj,

Parthiban, Uthra & Sathya of Batch 2012 and Gokul, Suganthan, Yuvaraj & Srihari of Batch 2011.

Finance Forum activity on 20.11.2012 (Tuesday):

(Tuesday). Mr.A.Senthil Kumar, Asst. Prof (SRG) / KCT.BSspear-headed the initiative as a finance

forum activity.

Environment Awareness

Students from 2012 Batch Section A took up the task of

creating awareness about global warming and its effects

with their drawings on 6th Nov 2012. The Students made

Posters and exhibited them for display. There were

drawings on the Green House Effects, water scarcity and

effects of Pollution from the industries and similar

themes. The event was coordinated by

Mr.VinayagaSundaram R and Ms.Resham.

Community League

On 17th November 2012, a team of 35

students from KCT.BS went to ‘Shanthi

Ashram’ as a part of community

engagement program ‘NamathuPangu’. The

Business school students were divided into

two teams, where one of them was made

the observers for the leadership workshop

by ‘Seer7’ of Mr.Kannan at shanthi ashram.

This workshop is all about developing the

leadership quality of the students, where

the relevance of Thirukural to leadership

was very well explained with examples first

and later by various activities. Students

from nearby villages were the participants of it. Since the workshop is related to thirukural, students

were able to closely relate and understand easily about the leadership qualities that they need to be a

successful leader in future. The other team was sent to the ‘Perur - Temple’ for ‘Shramadhan’. There

the team involved in cleaning the temple premises with the help of a team which is already involved in

temple maintenance. To add, the team also had a conversation with the priest of the temple, who is

basically a chemist, thus he explained the specialty of the temple and hindu practices both spiritually

and scientifically.

On 22nd November 2012 Vocational Training wing of

shanthi ashramam and NamadhuPangu of KCT brought

a team of 36 women with Dr. S. R. Subramanian and

Miss. Chitra for entrepreneurship development

workshop. Dr. Hema Nalini, KCTBS faculty presented

the welcome address. Two activities were planned for

the Vocational Training team. Needed resources were

given for the activities. Dr. Kripa priyadharshini,

KCTBS faculty, conducted an activity that focuses on

enhancing Confident, Orientation, Resource utilization,

Creativity, Planning, and Perseverance. The second

activity was Business Plan Development for the woman

which was handled by Miss. Sangeetha, KCTBS faculty.

The business plan activity gave an insight about

Planning, strategy development, financial plan and the

tips to start and run a Successful business. Mrs.

Priyadharsini, KCTBS faculty Supported the Business

plan Development. The workshop came to an end with

the closing remarks from Dr.Vijila Kennedy .The overall workshop was co-ordinated by Dr.

Nedunchezian and Dr.R. Hema Nalini.

Environmental league

Trekking programme:

On November 4, 2012 (Sunday) the KCTBS environmental members (38 students) along with Faculty members Ms. Sangeetha.S, Environmental League coordinator and Mrs. Priyadharshini.A had a trekking programme to Paalamalai which is 30 kilometers from KCT campus. The objective of this programme had been to plant 100 saplings on the top of hill with the support of ANV Foundation, a NGO which works for community welfare. As a service to nature, the KCTBS team planted all saplings. Mr. Loganathan of Batch 2012-14, Mr. Gowrishankar and Mr. Vigneswaran.K of Batch 2011-13 organized the entire event. Ms.S.Sangeetha was the event coordinator.

FORESTS OF KONGU NADU

Vanavarayar Foundation organised a presentation on "FORESTS OF KONGU NADU" .Mr. V. Ganesan. IFS was the guest of honour. He spoke about the gift of nature in Kongu regions. The information he provided, really made us feel proud to be in this region. Video Competition:

The environmental league organized video competition on theme “Environment” on November 03, 2012. Four teams of Batch 2012-14 presented their videos. The Videos came out with the valuable inputs of saving energy, natural resources, pollution control and environmental cleanliness. Ms. S.Sangeetha, Dr.Mary Cherian were the panel members for the competition. Mr.Loganathan and team won the first Prize and Mr.Vadivel and team won the second prize. On November 09, 2012, KCTBS

celebrated International Accounting

Day. The finance Forum conducted the

Accounting games for the Batch 2012-

14. Batch 2011-13 were the

organisers of this programme. The

programme comprised of two events,

Portfolio management and Ledger

construction. In the portfolio

management the participants were

given with a set of companies (20

companies) listed in the stock market

and the share price of the companies

was given to them. They invested in the companies based on the recent trends and the facts

about the company, for which The Business line Newspaper, were supplemented. The

winning criterion was evaluated based on the reason for choosing the company, Number of

companies in which the investment is made (10-15 companies), Maximum amount invested

(limited up to 50 lakhs) and Industry identification. In the event- ledger construction the

teams will be given with the transactions of a particular company and are requested to

construct a ledger account for the transaction. The winning criterion was based on the

construction of ledger account without any error. The winners of the game were

Mr.Balasingam.K, Mr.Dinesh.P, Ms.Davino.M.S, Ms.Dhivya.M, Ms.Divyabharathi.J,

Ms.Elakkiya.R. Faculty Coordinators for the event had been Ms.S.Sangeetha and Mr.A.Senthil

DIWALI CELEBRATION on November 9, 2012

Celebrated the festival of lights on 9th Nov

celebration mood, Diwali celebration

started in the afternoon at 2.00p.m and

lasted up to 4.30 pm, Dr. C. Sundaram

gave the welcome address and he spoke

about the importance of Diwali, Former IIM professor

Mr. swaminathan presence enlighted the celebration ,

he gave a special talk to students and greeted the students with Diwali wish, Students were

enthusiastic and they presented a feast for the eyes of audience through their drama on modern

silapathikaram, dance, music and a fashion show. Faculty members greeted the students with the

Diwali message and the students greeted each other with the Diwali message. Sweets were distributed

as a capital of happiness to the celebration.

Pot Luck Lunch

On 9.11.12 (Friday) KCTBS faculty team had our Pot Luck Lunch .All faculty members prepared special

lunch on the eve of Diwali. Pot Luck Lunch included own recipes of faculty members. Moments were

Cherished by every faculty member.

INTERNATIONAL DAY OF STUDENT`S on November 17, 2012

The international day of student`s was celebrated in

KCT.BS on 17th November 2012. Throughout the

world, there are vast numbers of children who are

orphaned or neglected, and in need of love, care and

affection, KCT.BS wanted to be acquainted with these

children, Fifteen girl children of age 5 to 15 years

were invited from “ARAVANAIKKUM ANBU ILLAM” ,

Dr.Meena Mohan inspired the Orphanage children by

her speech on “Importance of personal hygiene on

children” during her speech she said Common

childhood infections like childhood diarrhea,

respiratory illnesses and bacterial skin infections can

be averted by simple hand washing with soap before eating and after using the toilet.

These children from the orphanage were thought the importance of being personally hygiene like to

be clean and eat healthy foods, drink plenty of water, keep cloths and other accessories clean and neat,

proper precautions to avoid various diseases and ailments.

Fun games were conducted for children, the importance of personal hygiene habits were

taught through fun games. All the children felt involved and entertained, these games were conducted

by KCT.BS students.

This program ensured that the orphanage children were made aware and trained to keep personal

hygiene, Deepa Manickam was the coordinator for this program.

Placement

e-Students Profile for placement is now ready and available at www.kctbs.placementcell.in

HDFC Bank, CBazaar, Tokyo Info Solutions and Neeyamo held their campus interviews and so

far 17 students have been placed. CBazaar and Neeyamo are yet to announce their results.

Karur Vysya Bank, City Union Bank, South Indian Bank, Airtel, Berger Paints, FACE, CGVac

Software, Dneers, IDBI Federal Insurance have confirmed participation and quite likely to hold

the selection process in the month of December.

Local Corporate Contact program - Met Country Head, Cameron India on 21.11.12. The

placement cell has so far covered 8 reputed companies located in Coimbatore.

Prof Mukesh is currently on placement discussion tour to Kerala and Karnataka and meeting

HR personnel in several corporates.

Pfizer was very prompt in giving valuable details on marketing strategies to the budding marketers.

The main focus of the training was to make the trainees aware about the roles and responsibilities of a Rural Territory Manager (RTM) in Airtel. The activities were based on the functions of the RTM and

how to handle the real-time situations. The students were assessed by Aptitude test and personal Interviews. Feedback was given to the students on their skill development. The students filled their SWOT details on the format provide by the trainers which helped them to identify their areas of improvement. Feedback from the students about the training

was very positive and they looked forward to

clear the placement drive that will be conducted

in the subsequent week to come. The training

was coordinated by Ms. Resham Asst. Professor.

UK-India Staff Exchange Programme Dr. Vijila Kennedy, Director, KCT Business school has received a grant from UK-India Staff Exchange

Programme under Enhancing Mobility strand of UK India Education Research Initiative (UKIERI). She

will be spending a month in Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU) in February/ March 2013 to

exchange academic expertise,gain cross-cultural understanding and open avenues for collaborative

research. The visit will specifically give opportunities to

Understand the different functions and operation of the Centre for Professional Personnel

and Development (CPPD) within the Department and participating in its activities as

appropriate during the duration of the visit

Explore the possibilities of building association between CPPD of MMU Business School

and KCT.BS for Human Resource Development with the ultimate aim of enhancing the

India/UK HR Professional interface and interaction not just at the level of students and

academics but also at the level of HR practitioner and professional association.

Explore MMUB’s current student exchange programmes and the possibility of extending
