U.S. Consul General Visits Isra University, Hyderabad

The U.S. Consul General, Ms. Grace Shelton visited Isra University, Hyderabad on 18 October 2016. The visit was observed with reference to the ongoing partnership of Isra University, Hyderabad with the Ball State University, USA. The project is aimed to promote entrepreneurship and career services across Pakistan, where Isra University is given the leadership role in partnering with ten other universities of Pakistan in KPK, Baluchistan and Sindh. She was accompanied by Mr. A. J. Jagelski,

academia.The delegation then proceeded with the campus tour, followed by an interactive session with students of Isra University, Hyderabad. In the session, Ms. Shelton spoke about the opportunities available for young students and for their future growth. She emphasized upon the need to develop further international linkages for knowledge sharing and cross cultural interaction and exposure. This was followed by a question answer session with active

Ms. Shelton was very pleased with the university partnership and hoped that this collaboration will go a long way in many more areas to enhance knowledge and development of the

participation from the students. In his speech, Prof. Dr. Hameedullah Kazi informed the audience about the progress Isra University had made with regard to the partnership with Ball State University and working in collaboration with the U.S. Consulate, Karachi. The Chancellor, Prof. Dr. AsadullahKazi and Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. GhulamqadirKazi presented the guests and dignitaries with cultural souvenirs and shields.

A delegation of Isra University, Hyderabad comprising Prof. Dr. Hameedullah Kazi, Pro-Vice Chancellor of Engineering and Management Sciences and Dr. Qamaruddin Mahar, Chairperson of Department of Management Sciences visited three institutions in Quetta, Baluchistan and signed Memoranda of Understanding with them to promote collaboration in entrepreneurship and career services, research in multidisciplinary areas, and various academic activities.On 4 October 2016, the delegation visited University of Baluchistan, Sardar Bahadur Khan Women University, and Baluchistan University of Information Technology, Engineering and Management Sciences to meet their Vice Chancellors and sign the MoU.As a follow up to the linkages, Isra University is scheduled to conduct various workshops for students at its partnering institutions on how to launch their own business and how to conduct an effective job search These institutional collaborations

will contribute in bringing positive impact on local communities and help harness the potential of the talented youth.

Isra University Alumni Association organized a career counselling session for DPT (Doctor of Physiotherapy) students to guide them about future career decision activities.Speakers in this session were accomplished professionals in field of physiotherapy who have notable accomplishments to their name.The first speaker of this event was Dr. Riaz Baig Chugtai (Principal, College of Physiotherapy) who enlightened the students about various career choices they can pursue based on their interests and expertise. Dr. Satish Kumar talked about opportunities in USA and Canada while Dr. Vinod Kumar (Assistant Professor, Al-Tibri Medical College, Karachi) spoke about opportunities in Middle East. They also educated the students about different valuable certifications that they can look forward to as they move along phases of their professional career. The last speaker, Dr. Muhammad Asif Shaikh (Principal, IRRS, Khi) conducted a detailed session about further educational options enabling students to make informed decisions with

adequate knowledge and skills for a prosperous career path. Ms Humaira Jabeen facilitated the activity.

The Career Development Center (CDC) of Isra University, Hyderabad organized a Job and Trade Fair at its Hyderabad

thCampus on 25 November 2016. CDC has been practicing this annual fair since 2014 as it believes in building a bridge between the unemployed youth and recruiters. The event was inaugurated by the chief guest, DIG Hyderabad, Mr. Khadim Rind along with the Chancellor of Isra University, Prof.

Dr. Asadullah Kazi; Pro-Vice Chancellor, Dr. Hameedullah Kazi; Chairperson of Management Sciences Department, Dr. Qamar-ud-din Mahar; Deputy Director of ORIC, Mr. Zafar Siddiqui; Manager of ORIC, Mr. Riaz Shaikh; Assistant Manager of ORIC, Mr. Faraz Shaikh; and Assistant Manager of CDC, Ms. Wafa Pathan. Mr. Rind appreciated the efforts of Isra University in providing

employment opportunity to the youth of Hyderabad at no cost. He expressed his expectations of other academic institutes to follow suit. Following the inauguration ceremony, he visited the participating companies and was given a tour around the fair. Visitors from various universities in Sindh, Baluchistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhuwa and Gilgit Baltistan were a part of the career fair. As many as sixty distinguished organizations, including State

Bank of Pakistan, Pakistan Stock Exchange, Mobilink, Zong, Telenor, HBL, MCB Islamic Bank, UBL, AGM Pharma, Unique, and ICMA participated in the fair.The fair concluded with an award ceremony to acknowledge the participating companies and organizers of the event. Finally a group photograph was taken and was followed by lunch for the companies and dignitaries.

Isra University Alumni Association (IUAA) organized one-day thcareer counselling session on 6 October 2016, for the final year

students of MBBS and BDS. This event was conducted to guide the students with regards to their aspirations and to suggest the right path for them. The guest speaker of the day was Dr Khalil Almani and the president of IUAA, Dr. Walliullah Kazi, was the chief guest of the event.A total participation of 160 students was recorded on the day from the departments of MBBS and BDS. Students were highly active and energetically participated throughout the event. Faculty members of different departments also joined the session.The seminar started with the recitation of Holy Quran by Dr. Mashkoor which was followed by a brief introduction of IUAA by the host Ms. Madiha Baloch. By using interactive activities, practical examples, and a bit of persuasion, he was able to help students in identifying their areas of interest.In his words, “You all are now going to step in the professional life, it's high time you get serious and decide what is best for you.” Reminding the students of what the actual aim of life should be he went on saying, “You may choose any field, either it is cardiology, neurology or pathology, your aim must be to serve the humanity. This white coat will earn you respect but you are expected to reciprocate the same.”The session concluded with a question answer session where the students candidly shared their problems and queries with the speaker.

In his address he applauded the efforts of the organizers and emphasized on capitalizing this great gift of technology. Following his address, the speakers took charge. The main objective of the workshop was to motivate the students to put their skills to use while studying and give their careers a push. The course first introduced the participants to freelancing, then they were briefed on the account creation process. Finally, the speakers shared some secrets on how you can strengthen your position as a freelancer. At the end of the session, a question and answer session was conducted during which the students brought up their queries.

The last clinical monthly meeting of 2016 was held by the Department of Cardiology of Isra University in collaboration with

thPakistan Cardiac Society, Hyderabad Chapter on 19 November 2016, at Isra University Hospital, Hyderabad. Prof. Dr. Feroz Memon welcomed all the respected faculty members and participants. A large number of faculty members of Isra University Hospital, Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences, Red Crescent Institute of Cardiology and Government Taluka Hospital Qasimabad including post graduate students, medical officers and house officers attended the program.

Dr. Owais Shams, MD-Resident Cardiology at Isra University Hospital, Hyderabad.There was an active discussion amongst the participants including Dr. Fazal Rehman Memon, Dr. Muhammad Zaman Baloch, Dr. Nandlal Rathi, Dr. Muhammad Kashif Shaikh, Dr. Shahid Hussain Memon and Dr. Mashooq Dasti. After the presentations the Best Presenter Award of 2016 was awarded by Prof. Feroz Memon, Dr. Fasih A. Hashmi, Dr. Fazal Rehman Memonand, and Dr. Muhammad Zaman Baloch to Dr. Abdul Qadir from Isra University Hospital, Dr. Kiran from LUMHS, Dr. Abdul Rab from RCIC, and Dr. Safia from Sindh Government Hospital.The program was appreciated by all the faculty members and the session was concluded by Dr. Fazal Rehman Memon with the vote of thanks.

thElectrocardiography (ECG) on 19 November 2016. Dr. Faisal Qadir, Assistant Professor and Cardiac Electro physiologist at NICVD Karachi was invited as a guest speaker. He delivered a detailed lecture regarding ECG interpretation and diagnosing arrhythmias.It was an interactive workshop, well attended and actively participated by the faculty members, postgraduate students, house officers, and medical officers from Isra University Hospital, Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences, Red Crescent

Institute of Cardiology, and Govt. Hospital Qasimabad. Prof. Dr. FerozMemon formally welcomed all the attending participants which totaled around seventy. Dr. A.G. Kazi, Prof. FerozMemon and Dr. Faisal Qadir presented the prizes to the active participants which were Dr. Faraz Farooq Memon, Dr. Owais Shams and Dr. BushraAlmani. In the end, Medical Director and Pro-Vice Chancellor of Isra University Hospital, Dr. Abdul Ghani Kazi congratulated Prof. FerozMemonand his team for conducting this Advance ECG workshop.

Isra Economics and Finance Society after hosting two successful events in 2014 and 2015 launched the third sequel of 'Isra Young Traders' Challenge' for the year 2016. The pre-competition training was held on 24 October 2016, at Asadullah Kazi Auditorium of Isra University, Hyderabad.The guest speaker, Mr. Syed Arif Ali from JS Global initiated the session and guided the participants in using the trading terminal for the competition. The session was then led by Prof. Dr. Hameedullah Kazi Pro-Vice Chancellor and Patron in Chief of Isra Economics and Finance

Society. He enlightened the audience with the market conditions, emotions and decisions involved in making a trade and also defined the do's and don'ts of the competition. He advised the participants to rely more on technical analysis than fundamental analysis while trading and suggested using a blend of different trading strategies.More than 120 students from different institutes including Sindh University and Sargodhian Spirit Trust Public School, Rashidabad attended the event and registered for the competition. It was an informative session highly acknowledged by faculty and audience.

IEFS Holds Training Session forIsra Young Traders' Challenge 2016

A business plan competition was organized for the final year students on 24 November 2016. In this competition final year students from the department of Management Sciences showcased their projects along with prototypes to the visitors and evaluators.There were around nine participating teams - namely Homely, Skyplex, Books and Bites Cafe, Foodies on the Go, Travelers' Hostel, Star Fisheries, JSSLR Fun Resort, Buck Shot and Maxit's Departmental Store – with very diverse ideas. To prove the viability of their ideas, the teams gave the evaluators an in depth elaboration of their projects and answered their queries. The teams

were evaluated by four judges, three of them (Mr. Najeeb Brohi, Mr. Munir Ahmedani and Mr. Nadeem Qureshi) were from Isra University while one (Mr. Jawad Saeed) was from State Bank of Pakistan. The evaluators assessed the projects on their innovativeness, demand, viability and some other criteria. Team Homely and Star Fisheries bagged the first position while there was also a tie between Buck Shot and Maxit's Departmental Store for the second position. The third position was secured by Team Skyplex.

Entrepereneurs' comprising of Rana Tabraiz, Konain Ali, Sikandar Ali, Mairaj Ali and Waqas Masood stood second and third respectively. The position holders were awarded with shields, certificates and cash prizes of Rs. 15,000, Rs. 10,000 and Rs. 7,000 respectively.The finale culminated with the address of Prof. Dr. Hameedullah Kazi, Pro-Vice Chancellor, during his address he applauded the efforts of the young traders and noted that such events should continue in the future. Further sharing his thoughts, he emphasized that competitions like these serve as a powerful tool for building skills, formulating, evaluating and tuning various strategies and gaining important investing experiences.

After two blockbuster stock trading competitions, Isra Economics and Finance Society, in collaboration with JS Global Capital Limited launched its third sequel of Isra Young Traders Challenge

th thfrom 25 October 2016 to 18 November 2016. The Grand Finale th of the Competition was held on Friday 25 November 2016, in

which top ten teams presented the trading strategies employed during this online stock trading competition.Around 120 students from IBA Sindh University, Isra University, Hyderabad and Sargodhian Spirit Trust Public School Rashidabad participated in the challenge. Out of more than thirty teams, those that topped in terms of trading activity and net worth in the first round qualified for the grand finale.At the grand finale, the shortlisted teams apprised the judges of the

trading tactics considered while making trading decisions. The panel of judges comprising Dr. Arshad Haroon, CEO of MIRFA Investment Research Consultancy Company; Mr. Imran Khan, Director of MIRFA Investment Research Consultancy Company; and Mr. Abdul Latif Memon, Branch of JS Global Limited, Hyderabad, evaluated the viability of the employed strategies. Isra University had organized a Technical Visit to Jamshoro Power Plant on 18 October 2016. The visit was managed and coordinated by Engr. Saad Khan Baloch, Asst. Professor, Faculty of Engineering & Science Technology.Forty-five Students from the Faculty of Engineering & Science

Technology from the departments of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering witnessed the generation of electricity by means of thermal energy. All in all, students learned a lot from the visit.

Isra University, Hyderabad participated and got Two 2nd Positions in the Zonal Mid Term Skills Competition 2016 of Prime Minister Youth Skills Development Program being organized by NAVTTC along with CEAD, Jamshoro on 05 November 2016. The two 2nd positions were achieved by students from the trade of Book Keeping & Accounting and Graphic Designing.The coordination was done by Mr. Saad Khan Baloch, Assistant Professor and Focal Person, Prime Minister Youth Skills Development Program at Isra University, Hyderabad. Prof. Dr. Ghous Bux Khaskily, Dean, Mehran UET, Jamshoro was the chief guest on the occasion.

Pakistan Engineering Council visited Isra University, Hyderabad on 08 December 2016 for the Reaccreditation Visit of the Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical) Program. The team was very happy to see the facilities at the department. The team comprised of Engr. Prof. Dr. Tabrez Shami, Dean, University of Central Punjab, Lahore, Engr. Prof. Dr. Talat Altaf, Sir Syed University, Karachi and Engr. Ahad Larik, PEC representative.The team visited laboratories, classes, library and met with Prof. Dr. Ghulamqadir Kazi, Vice Chancellor, Isra University,

Hyderabad, Prof. Dr. Hameedullah Kazi, Pro-Vice Chancellor, Engineering & Management Sciences, Isra University, Hyderabad, Engr. Prof. Dr. Rafiq Abro, Chairperson, Electrical Engineering department, QEC, Examination Branch, Finance & ORIC representatives, faculty members and students. Moreover, as per their recommendation PEC is pleased to accredit two of the Batches i.e. 1110-BEEE (January 2012) and 1210-BEEE (January 2013) in its subsequent EA&QEC meeting.

A student of MS (Computer Science), Mr. Muhammad Usman Butt, together with his Supervisor and Co-Supervisor, Prof. Dr. Hameedullah Kazi and Mr. Muhammad Arshad Shaikh, authored and presented a research paper at the 1st International Conference on Innovations in Computer Science and Software Engineering (ICONICS) 2016, held at NED University, Karachi between 15 and 16 December, 2016. The paper was entitled, "Location Server Based Proactive Routing (LSPR) Protocol". The oral presentation was highly appreciated by the audience and conference organizers, and after strong competition was awarded the Best Paper Award. This is in recognition of the outstanding standard of research conducted at the Department of Computer Science, Isra University.

NAVTTC & Isra University, Hyderabad successfully conducted interviews of the PMYSDP, Phase-3, Batch-2 on 23 December 2016. In total 503 candidates had applied in 03 trades. Mr. Amir Jameel & Mr. Muhammad Ishaq, Deputy Directors, NAVTTC, Islamabad, conducted interviews. The delegation also called on Prof. Dr. Hameedullah Kazi, Pro-Vice Chancellor, Engineering & Management Sciences and Head of NAVTTC Prime Minister Youth Skills Development Program. The entourage was very happy to see the facilities being offered to the students.Isra University, Hyderabad was shortlisted and selected to

organize trainings in 03 trades at its Hyderabad Campus i.e. Book Keeping & Accounting, Graphic Designing and Auto CAD in Prime Minister Youth Skills Development Program, Phase-3, Batch-2. Previously Isra University, Hyderabad successfully completed 06 months training program in the mentioned trades in Phase-3, Batch-1. A total of 75 students are getting training being offered to the students from underprivileged areas of the region. Mr. Saad Khan Baloch, Assistant Professor and Focal Person, coordinated the event.

Final Year Project Day of the Department of Electrical Engineering was held on 24 December' 2016. The event was held at the faculty of Engineering, Science & Technology. In total 07 groups from the January 2013 batch presented before the external their projects prototypes. Prof. Dr. Sattar Larik, Chairperson, Electrical Engineering department from Mehran UET, Jamshoro was the external on the occasion.

Prof. Dr. Hameedullah Kazi, Pro-Vice Chancellor, Engineering & Management Sciences, Isra University, Hyderabad, Pakistan and Prof. Dr. Rafiq Abro, Chairperson, Electrical Engineering department of Isra University, Hyderabad were also present on the occasion. The external examiner was glad to see the quality work of the students of the final year of electrical engineering program.

NAVTTC PMYSDP Final Assessment Exams of the Phase-3, Batch-1 of Isra University graduates was held on 14 November 2016 at Isra University, Hyderabad. Students in the trade of Book Keeping & Accounting and in Graphic Designing gave final exam after successful 6 month training completion, while for Auto CAD trade the assessment was held at Gexton Institute, Hyderabad. It was encouraging to know that nearly 95% students of Isra University graduates passed the exams.

Dr. Navaid Kazi and Dr. Arsalan Uqaili's presentations were accepted for oral presentation in SAPCON 2016 – Conference of South Asian Association of Physiologists (SAAP-V) in

ndconjunction with 2 Annual Conference of Physiological Society of Nepal (PSN). The presentations were on the topic “Estimation of Serum Copper Level in Benign and Malignant Prostate Disease and Correlation with Acid Phosphatase” and “Estimation of Serum Zinc Level in Benign and Malignant Prostate Disease and Correlation with Acid Phosphatase.” The presentations were presented well and the candidates were able to satisfy the queries of the attendees.Both the representatives also attended a pre-conference workshop on “Physiological Teaching”. In the workshop, they actively participated in the discussion and apprised the attendees of the teaching methods observed at Isra University. The module system

teaching method at Isra University was immensely appreciated by Prof. Barbara Goodman (USA). Prof. Srmitha Ghosha (Malaysia) during panel discussion asked about the problems faced and the way they were tackled with during the implementation of the module system. Foreign participants from USA, U.K., Austria, Japan, Malaysia, Taiwan, Iran, India, and Srilanka showed their keen interest to visit Isra University if invited for any educational event. Engr. Umer Akhtar, Engineering Safety Corporate Manager, K-Electric, Karachi, Pakistan was the speaker.Prof. Dr. Hameedullah Kazi, Pro-Vice Chancellor, Engineering & Management Sciences, Isra University, Hyderabad, Pakistan and Head of Executive Council, IEEE Isra Student Branch gave the welcome address. He encouraged the students to participate in these types of seminars in future. General Secretary, IEEE Isra Student Branch, Abdul Hai, gave the IEEE Isra Student Branch Address. After the addresses the speaker delivered his talk.

On 11 November 2016, the Career Development Center at Isra University organized a one-day seminar on 'CV Writing' for the students of Engineering and Management Sciences department. The session was organized just few days prior to the job and trade fair 2016 to facilitate the students in putting together their curriculum vitae.The session was conducted by Mr. Noman Kazi from Human Capital department of Isra University. During his session, Mr. Kazi notified the students of what makes an okay CV a great CV. He shed light on the key considerations when putting together a CV. This informative session was organized Mr. Faraz Shaikh and Mr. Ahsan Ansari.

IEEE Isra Student Branch Elections 2016-17 were held on 25th November, 2016. IEEE Isra Student Branch elections are held each year as a democratic process to elect the four coveted posts of chair, vice chair, secretary and treasurer.
